IMHO for such amount of money you can hire hundred people to find out where you lost it) Or recover all information byte by byte from the bad hard drive in special organizations)
The chance of recovery for this amount of money is very less, maybe this guy has already give up.
It could have make him millionaire during the ATH of bitcoin but that is life, we make mistakes sometimes and all we do every time is just to move on
and continue exploring greater opportunity.

Sad news for everyone and probably the worst nightmare anyone can have. Except this one is real and it is a total loss. I hope everyone reconsiders their bitcoins and alt coin security.

Cant blame the guys those days Bitcoin are not really popular and some of those miners think that if was just like a game or what we doing is not really that worth it those days but still its stupid if you dont have backup on your wallet key. He already gave up on it so sad that was worth a million right now.

wow, that was terrible. it's look like losing 5 Lamborgini Aventador because about 20 btc can buy 1 Lambo.
If I'm in his position I will never give up to try to get it back

So much money in bitcoin. That's way hardware wallet is best choice to keep your digital asset than software wallet. It's better than those bitcoins getting hacked by those bankers or a huge syndicate.

How sad if he had lost it. Somehow if there is anyway you can just keep your keys at your house encrypted in such a way that only you understands it would be better. Or how about spreading the keys across walls of your house or bedroom written very small? Maybe it will help. If saved in a computer you might have problems keeping it due to possible hackers. I think there are so many ways to back it up manually those are just my suggestions though to avoid such problem.

Unfortunately there is no way to get this coin now without dat file and private keys if this store to an storage. There are so many cases with the same problem those bitcoin are now lost forever. I read an article with many comments from the lost bitcoin owners that from the 2009 to 2012 there is no decent storage to store bitcoin that time, so that the cause is more bitcoin from that time are destroy from their hard drive or lost from old storage.

This is a huge sum of money. Losing such a huge stack of money would hit me hard and almost anyone no matter how rich they are, but this clearly demonstrates the importance of securing our assets for the future.

Everyone should take care of security and backup storage. Be careful and nothing will happen to your savings. Let the losses of others serve you as a lesson

His Address    166BuLPWHUjqoqiYp5rGE3B5r5AmqgHpoL    Final Balance   103.20832384 BTC

So many people have the same problem and I wonder just how much Bitcoin is stuck not being able to be used Sad

He says "I used to mine Bitcoin back in 2011 and I lost my wallet.dat file (through several stupid moves on my part). It's got approx 103 BTC in it, anyone is welcome to it, I've given up trying."

that is quite huge amount of bitcoin also a money, i suggest that you should make some back up of that in a hard copy and a soft copy in a very safe place that no one will find.

can i ask a question? what will happen to the lost btc wallet bal?

Really sad to see how much he has lost and that's why it is really important to take care of your wallets. Store all your coins in cold storage and then take the backup od everything and save it somewhere else. You never know when you'll need it. I hope he somehow recovers that amount.

Let's learn from other people's experiences that what is needed when "playing" with bitcoin is the patience, thoroughness and good management of the account and wallet.

Bitcoin was undervalued at that time. People didn't pay much attention to its relevance and so many people lost coins forever. Well it seems now that we have known the relevance of Bitcoins that will reduce.

Loss of assets is very sad. No matter how small the asset is, collecting it takes effort and it takes time. Moreover it is 103 btc, it's a very big nominal. But it also depends when the loss of the dat file. If it is still in the year before 2016, the price is still not so much. But this will be different story if it happens after that year.

It's no way to get back your wallet if you lost dat file and don't have a backup for it.
Maybe it can be a lesson learn for us.
Always create 1 or 2 backup files for our main wallet because we never know what gonna happen in the future.
