It is very sad to lose 103 BTC, but it is certainly a matter of bitcoin to be able to solve this problem that may come back someday, and bitcoin may be able to apply a new way so that if one day it happens the same as that someone will not experience sadness and can get back BTC. But also we all who have btc should be able to keep and store our btc well in the safest place so as not to be stolen others and not lose the btc we have.

Well, there is nothing anyone can do for him. And that should be a lesson for the rest of us. Don't experiment on your main wallet and also back it up at multiples places. And besides, this guy never knew that the price would go that high, i mean when he lost, he only lost a small amount, so he should have coped with it with not much trouble.

How much time and resources are needed to brute force the key? Or is this not possible at all?

Just wondering, if this pure guy lost such an amount of money maybe it is better to invest now in needed hardware and try to brute force or any other way to find the key.

I had a similar experience with a friend, because then bitcoin was seen as nothing people are just playing around with the mining. Most of them don't even know the password to their wallet. Now that all wallet are now back with back up phrase and PUK, is now difficult for them to recover the wallet back.

His Address    166BuLPWHUjqoqiYp5rGE3B5r5AmqgHpoL    Final Balance   103.20832384 BTC

So many people have the same problem and I wonder just how much Bitcoin is stuck not being able to be used Sad

He says "I used to mine Bitcoin back in 2011 and I lost my wallet.dat file (through several stupid moves on my part). It's got approx 103 BTC in it, anyone is welcome to it, I've given up trying."

Such a sad story, when people lost their coins, especially BTC. But a lot of people, who mined BTC in the very beginning didn’t take it too seriously, so may be that`s why they lost it.

I'm extremely sad for the person who lost his 103 tremendous coins. Truth be told, the Bitcoin endorsers never suspected that Bitcoin would get the cost. That which is always lost is never found back. So don't sit tight for the lost always and push ahead. Roll Eyes Roll Eyes Roll Eyes

Imagine what will be his disappointment when in a few years bitcoin will cost 100,000 dollars, it would mean that he could be the owner of a fabulous amount of $ 10,000,000. I think that it is difficult to recover from such a shock. I sincerely regret this man and I empathize with him.

Bitcoin is encrypted data that proves how many bitcoins you have and allows you to use your bitcoin. The only voucher is the "private key". Protecting the private key is to protect the bitcoin. If the private key is lost and not backed up, then these BTCs will be lost forever.
So be sure to make a proper backup before enabling your Bitcoin wallet (private key) to collect money.

It doesn't matter whether you carry fiat currencies or cryptocurrencies, you need to take an extra precaution to protect your wallet. This person has lost not only 103 BTC, but also the effort he has made in bitcoin mining. It is an utter disappointment when you find that you lost everything you have earned for seven years just because of your own carelessness.

Losing that amount of money is terrible, I also lost about 27 BTC last year, my case is that my iPhone got stolen and I forgot to backup the 12 words of MyCelium, I was pretty sick seeing the Bitcoin price climbing very fast at the end of 2017
Men that was so tragic, I already faced same situation but not same amount. I lost 29 bitcoins because my phone was stolen. I try to contact the one who stole it, I offered him money just to give back myphone but still he'd not cooperate. I learned my lesson that time right now I got 2 phones and I save my private keys on both.

This happen last 2011. He may think it was not worth a penny during that time and never bother to recover his BTC. Who would think that BTC will worth this much? It is extremely sad story.

Oh my God; really a very big loss to the friend.  I am really very much sympathetic to him because he suffered such a big blow.  But I fear whether he will get these back in his life time or not?
In my opinion it is impossible for anybody to break open a wallet.  Private key is the only option which he does not have in his possession.  Have to be brave to be able to bear huge loss. Sad

events like this are very worrying, it should not happen. hard work and hard work for many years. lost in an unclear way.
this becomes a valuable lesson and experience. to be the knowledge for all of us in storing BTC in the wallet. so as not to experience the same thing. hopefully be given patience. keep the spirit of friends.

Route back those years bitcoin isn't esteemed much at that point so it's alright for him not to recoup that as nobody expecting that bitcoin will be on this stage. What's more, it resembles the most prominent issue before of those diggers that has mined a ton of bitcoin, they need to store it seriously yet unfortunately as they search for some security to their bitcoins, they are wiping out their stockpiling after support it up and sadly, they aren't ready to make one go down for it.

103 BTC is a huge amount, I think there may be so many miners who have lost their dat files and wallet as well as private keys. May be at the earlier stage miners have not token BTC positively and they didn't knew BTC will be huge today. The point is BTC have total circulation of 21M coin and out of which almost 84% has been mined which is around 17.5M. With the above case if we assume if 4M BTC are lost in similar case than we all are using 13.5M BTC only.

Yeahh this is life unfortunately (or may be fortunately?).

You won't believe it but the opposite happened to me some years ago.
I had just opened a hot wallet and few days later, I received to an unused address around 0,50 BTC. First I was telling myself "no it's not true! You can't read properly etc.."
I have checked and rechecked the address for weeks and the money was still there. I guess someone made a mistake by entering the payment address and it landed into my wallet  Smiley
I ended up doing some shopping online for the money. Since I never stopped believing in Bitcoin BTC

Someone else who had a similar story?

I fell bad for him. Everyone should be carefull in every action they do if a big amount is at stake or even a little you dont now if that will become bigger just like what happened to him, but he should accept what happened and continue to live.
