I just discovered HBN recently, is there a good intro on how best to maximize stake returns? What are the main factors involved? Do you need to keep the wallet open 24/7?

The best way is to keep your blocks between 500-1000. IMO. PoS difficulty is still pretty low, so no worries about staking. You are just trying to prevent yourself from being capped, at 250. You do not have ot keep wallet open all the time. Somne like to, as they utilize S4C, and just like to keep stakes coming in all the time. Some would rather turn off for a bit, and then catchup every few days or weeks and get their stakes(sometimes at the cap) then go back to sleep for a while. Depends on your hardware, your time, and your objectives, on what you want to do.

Tranz people are finally realizing that the money is in the trusted devs with the highest integrity. Im going to post my article of praise on both your threads , if you dont mind. http://bitcoinlasvegas.net/the-best-altcoins-for-2015-thanks-for-trusting-in-me/

I want to make sure everyone knows that I just released my software called "Yobit pump alert". THis is custom software that uses an algo to detect the start of a pump here on yobit, the second it starts. YOu can even filter the coins you see by price. Most pumps start less than 100 sats , so you can easily filter the cheap coins, so they are the only ones displayed https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=1945937.msg20241953#msg20241953

so if i type splitthreshold 9000 it will split it if the block size goes above 9000?
Lets say you have a block of 17500 and splittthreshold is set to 9000: Your Block stakes after 10 days for ~350 hbn, your new Block will be 17850 - no Blockhalving occurs. After the next 10 days, your Block stakes again for ~357 hbn, now you will get two Blocks of 9103.5hbn. Hope i explained it understanable Max PoS reward is 250 HBN You are right, i forgot about it. my blocks are still halving even though i did splitthreshold 9000 and currently all my block sizes are less than 9000.

Check post from PressF1 who explain how wallet will calculate your max split/combinethreshold. And here is my shortcut to hobonickels.exe to enable auto: D:\HBN\HoboNickels-qt.exe -datadir=D:\HBN -splitthreshold=500 -combinethreshold=500 You can use conf instead of shortcut if you prefer, work the same

my blocks are still halving even though i did splitthreshold 9000 and currently all my block sizes are less than 9000.
Interesting discussion. Please let me elaborate a bit cause there is a little more to it I think.
With the splitthreshold command everyone owning HBN can change the default splitthreshold of 5 to a maximum of 100 HBN. so far so good. But a threshold of 100 means that a staked block including the stake it produced won't split if the combined amount is less than 100. Example1: splitthreshold set to 100, staking block = 95, POS-reward is 4, combined amount is 95+4=99, Result: no splitting, just 1 new block of 99. Example2: splitthreshold set to 100, staking block = 98, POS-reward is 4, combined amount is 98+4=102, Result: splitting will occur, 2 new blocks are formed of 51 HBN each.
As for the maximum threshold amount, everyone can set it at 100 but some can set it even higher. To do so, you need to own a certain amount of HBN. The amount you have will decide what your maximum splitthreshold can be: It's the total of your stash divided by 500. So if you own 100K, your max splitthreshold will be 100K/500=200. Already twice the regular maximum!
Big wallets contribute a lot to the safety of the network and this is the perk that comes with it.
So buy and keep to raise your limit, or not, it's all up to you!
For now max is 100, unless you really have lot of HBN and then can use higher value

Splittthreshold 500, Actual Blocksize 7000, lets say 250hbn every stake Stake 1: 7000 + 250 = 7250 / 2 = 3625 Stake 2: 3625 + 250 = 3875 / 2 = 1937.5 Stake 3: 1937.5 + 250 = 2187.5 / 2 = 1093.75 Stake 4: 1093.75 + 250 = 1343.75 / 2 = 671.375 Stake 5: 671.375 + 250 = 921.375 (/ 2 = 460.9375) < Stake 5 will not halve your block anymore until its get bigger than 1000 so, Stake 6: 921.375 + 250 = 1171.375 / 2 = 585.9375 < Stake 6 will halve your block, because both blocks will be greater than 500. Stake 7: 585.9375 + 250 = 835.9375 (what do you think will happen to that block? Will it remain as it is, or will it halve?) If you dont want your 7k block to halve than you should set threshold to 7k or even higher.

What am i doing wrong? Nothing, just read my explanation once more: a threshold of 100 means that a staked block including the stake it produced won't split if the combined amount is less than 100. in your case it's not 100 but 243.68. Your combined amount is 7177. that's way more than 243.68 so it will split. If you try to set it above your personal maximum (at 500), it will take the maximum that fits your total amount of HBN. It means that you have 243.68 x 500 = 121840 HBN. Say you would want a max splitthreshold of 500 you need to own 250000 HBN. Was that helpful?

If you don't want your 7k block to halve than you should set threshold to 7k or even higher.
Don't forget that it will also add the POS reward to the 7K block before the code decide whether to split or not. So for a 7K block you need a splitthreshold of about 7200 if you don't want it to split. And I am not sure if you realize that in order to be able to use a splitthreshold of 7200, you need to own 7200 x 500 = 3.6 Million HBN which at the moment no one even remotely comes close to.

What if I have small blocks (0.1-3 coins per block), a total over 100k? Can I still set split/combine to 200 and expect staking to take place?

Yes I also suggest upping the combinethrehold to your own max as well. It will help keep combine all the small blocks into bigger ones.

Staking threshholds still confuse me. So I've got about 77k. What should my numbers be? I hate having hundreds of 1-2hbn stakes
I have 100 Split and 50 combine in there as of now but not sure what they mean.

I think that is good. I would just set them to the max you are allowed, which maybe the max default. As the money supply grows I will up the defaults, public max, and large stake holder max.
