Gridcoin has no future. Too easy to cheat and to fake BOINC cpu utilization.

why don't you explain how to hack it, better yet make a hack yourself and show us the cheating in realtime.

Instead of being dismissive you could probably tell us how you would do it and what measures could be introduced to curb it ?

I'll give you a 1000GRC if you can figure out a way to hack it without boinc running.

How would you do it?

Rob Halford

Before you answer, remember that no other node is going to forward your block to the network if it doesn't have a valid hash that "checkwork xxxx" returns a 1 on from the RPC.
Type checkwork 26150 and look at the result code.

Scratch that, I'll give you 5000 gridcoins if you can figure out a way to hack the boinchash and create a successful block accepted by the network.  And just to give you a hint, the hash changes on every block, so you can't copy anything from previous hashes.  And yes, what is in the hash is related to boinc, and sampled over 75,000 times per second, and is new information for every GPU block.  Oh and one more thing, the block does contain more than the CPU usage now.  It has 3 inputs from the GVM that are not primitive types.

This is actually a great thing for Gridcoin. We can see if there is any loopholes or flaws anywhere. This is a great idea now that I think about it.

Change the title to start with "Challenge:" or "Reward:" so it doesn't sound like a tutorial..

Is anyone else having trouble synchronizing with network? Just to be sure I was up to the latest version I uninstalled and updated, and still can't sync.

I'm running (and was running prior to that) 1.1.3.7-g71-prod.

I had the same problem where it was getting stuck at 26149 here's what I did to get it to sync properly: https://cryptocointalk.com/topic/1331-new-coin-launch-announcement-grc-gridcoin/?p=14372

I'll be incredibly cheeky and ask if my existing 4.8 million rosetta credits can have 'back-payment' Smiley

(I know there's no way to verify, and this coin doesn't work like that, but hey, gotta try!)

Just stopped using BOINC to try and actually earn some money for the contributions, mining litecoins at the moment; but am interested in this coin, because as others have stated - it encourages actually providing something back to the real world at the same time.

Has there been any potential discussion with any BOINC project owners for any additional potential integration or collaboration?

I just got a new crash. (There's a regular crash I get that doesn't give any useful errors, but this one seems to have some info of note)

Assertion Failed!
Program: C:\Program Files (x86)\Gridcoin\gridcoin-qt.exe
File: src/wallet.cpp
Line: 1847

Expression: vchPubKey.IsValid()

And the non-informative error usually just says "OSS GUI client for Gridcoin has stopped working".

I had this same problem but each time the wallet was restarted it got further along syncing and eventually I was able to send the coins to a different wallet.
While I haven't used it, I was told the -salvagewallet command will fix that problem.

You can also try doing this. Backup your wallet.dat, delete everything in your AppData\Roaming\Gridcoin folder, launch Gridcoin and let it sync completely with a new wallet. Then close out of it, replace the new wallet.dat with your old one, and relaunch and see if that helps. I got a few errors over the several updates where it said it couldn't open my wallet.dat, and just playing around with syncing, replacing the wallet, etc. it eventually booted up. I had a hell of a time yesterday since my two machines running Gridcoin both got them, spent like 45 min fixing it lol.
