just because some altcoin has a big market capitalization it doesn't mean it is also automatically a good investment too, specially when you are talking about the "long term" investment. for example a couple of years ago the list of "top altcoins" were not at all like this. there were coins in that list that aren't even big today. for example NXT used to be number 2 once. but today it has dropped down significantly. in other words a long term investment in it meant a huge loss on your part!

Choosing the wrong cryptocurrency for a longterm holding is just a loss and a mess, this must be considered before deciding to buy and store those coins, it may be a scam or just useless coins, consider it to stop wasting your time from those coins as some of them are just good for pumping, false hypes and a short-term profit, determining those coins is a bit hard to find but you may consider it to profit more, top coins might be a good start to invest then dive into research to found undervalued coins that have the potential to boom in the latter part.

With how you understood the project was, then dealing with long term holds is a wise decision, allowing the dev to accomplished its promise and let the project to continue to progress, people who did their research before investing and holding a coins or project will be able to keep their assets being hold for a target value, even dip won't hurt their butts since they understand that it's just a part of the cycle coming from this trading business/investment that they have.

The question is that there are only a few numbers of projects would really have the potential to sustain itself when it comes for long term prospects.People doesnt underestimate long term trades but they do always fall out with their emotions and worries when they do saw price decrease of their holdings but there are really people who dont even mind on going for long term but rather they do choose up to utilize of coin volatileness which will make profits for them on short time basis.They do embrace the risk when it regards to short trading but on most cases people do choose up on holding but some people are impatient to do such thing.

Yeah, it is as simple as not even doing anything at all and only having your portfolio accumulated somewhere you can easily monitor how they are doing. I do not think that there is any technical issue do discuss, i think that it is very simple to say that those people who do not have good experience in trading they should only invest their money in bitcoin for long term, because for long term investment they do not require to have good experience, they just need to hold their bitcoin and wait for the good time and and the price increase too much then they should sill it.
