Is the creation of a "Dark Foundation" officially on the roadmap? If not, +1 this post if you think it's required, and explain why:
In my opinion the Dark Foundation needs to define and steer the following elements in the Dark "crowd sourced company":
- DRK Vision - DRK Mission - DRK Solution Development (product) - Cryptocurrency - ... - DRK Operations - Mining - Masternodes - Official external systems (block explorer) - Official statistics - DRK Business integration - DRK Marketing - DRK Branding - DRK Promotion
Product management, incident management, customer services, ... and so on..

Only one last thing on this issue: no target no problem. A cold wallet option, as have been mentioned before would solve this problem 100%.
This goes along with my TOR strategy for remote access. The fewer breakable parts you have, the fewer things can break... If it doesn't have a handle on it, no one can grab the handle and yank... Also how I described the manner in which a masternode can be defined by a public keay instead of a private key, and entryies automatically handled on-chain instead of on-key... Not target, fucktards can run amok and the issue becomes trustless. No private key = no target. I already solved this and it looks like the direction Evan is already heading.

people can't trust the network because it's run by fucktards
You said it... Well, considering a generous portion of the general public falls within the "fucktards" category when it comes to security, this is inevitable. We need to find a feasible way to sponsor growth. Calling for "no help to n00bs to maintain a barrier to entry" is a good way to commit coin-cide. If masternode adoption were key to widespread use, you'd be right. But it's not. So you're wrong. It only needs 2000 +/- people on the entire planet to not be fucktards. It's a bit of a stretch, but I think it's possible that 2000 human beings out of the entire population of the planet are not fucktards. Maybe I'm just optimistic... ;-) Didn't I just tell the whole thread that my seemingly god-like investment strategy is based on nothing but the inevitability of humans being stupid and simply being prepared for it when it strikes? The problem with the above paragraph is that you assume you can prevent the fucktards from participating. You effectively can code so only approved master nodes can participate, but then that's a move toward centralization in the eyes of the general public creating an elite few. If you don't employ an approval system with the code, then anyone can participate, and given the earning potential is there fucktards will do so. Thus the potential to relive the debacle of today will continue to exist.

I don't have a clue how to set up a masternode - does that make me a 'fucktard' too? I hold over 200 DRK and believe in this coin just as much those who are savvy with the technical side of things.
Teach us, educate us - don't turn people away who want to understand.
You need to get familiar with Linux and have a good understanding of network/internet security before attempting IMHO...

No, you shall not be called a "fucktard" until you go to spin up a MN defying all logic, common security practices, and denying responsibility for the inevitable end result

No, you do not need to get familiar with Linux but get used to the fact that you need to rely on a capable service provider to provide you hosting and security services which comes at a cost. I am getting tired of people asking others to become security SMEs in order to be able to participate in the MN network. That's a disservice to Darkcoin as it prevents more money from coming in.

Yes, you are a fucktard. But your desire to stop being a fucktard is the most desirable and admirable trait a person can possess. Go read an IP-Tables howto. This will give you bearings. It will tell you if you're missing pre-requisite knowledge or not. If you have no idea what they're talking about, come back and tell us what you don't understand and then we'll know where to start with the education process. I don't know where to start the education process if I don't know where you stand.

You can bet your ass everyone and their mother will try to set up a master node. It seems the real question is: should more knowledgeable people help them?

And worst of all, I won't be able to snag the dark they throw away and add their blood to my hot tub... It'll just fuck DRK directly. And THAT, sir, is what I find to be offensive. :-p

Was that the first term you could think of you could throw out there? An understanding of these technologies is not a requirement for running a MN. Yes, it helps you administer your own node if you have the knowledge but these folks should know that a fully managed host provider is also an alternative, too. We need to stop discouraging people from joining. This is not how IT services in today's commercial space works.

What are you talking about? This sounds like FUD. They won a bid over IBM less than 6 months ago, its apparently to host a dedicated CIA cloud, but i wouldnt rule out them having access to the facility itself.

Anyone who wants to set up masternodes but doesn't know how, just post what youre doing in this thread, me and others will help you for free. Or go in the irc room and people will help you there to, its not hard.
Sleepyx and others happy to help people who want to set one up for free. Good if you know linux. Else, I do it for you for 10 Drks. If anyone wants me to setup a Masternode for them, PM me. If you want more than 3 MNs, it will be 8 drks each. More than 10, I'll do for 5 Drks each. More than 25, we should do a deal. If you're worried about security, you keep your own wallet encryption passphrase secret. I never need to know it. The passphrase cannot be hacked if more than 15 strings. You then change your server password. And I'll show you how to lock down your server. We will NEVER EVER install a keylogger or any malware on your fresh Ubuntu server. We make an honest living. You can do checks after the install, to ensure no malware. If you're truly paranoid, contact DyslexicZombei and he may be able to do further hardening steps (note: we do not warrant their work). MN count increased to 375 from 371 yesterday. Why setup a Masternode you ask? Now, with the new 20% of block reward payment to MNs (starting from June 14th), below are the new estimated ROIs, (Masternode count on left and ROI on right):374 = 56% p.a. (current Masternode count) 500 = 42% p.a. 750 = 28% p.a. 1000 = 21% p.a. 1500 = 14% p.a. 2000 = 10.5% p.a. This is based on the price in Darks (or the USD/BTC at the time you buy the Darks to setup the Masternodes and assumes the price in USD/BTC does not change). You need 1000 Darks per Masternode. Therefore, in time the system could level out to between 2000 and 4000 MNs for a 5 to 10% annual return. However, this implies 2 to 4 Million darks, which is 50 to 93% of current coin supply. This also implies the price of Darks are likely to rise, if people kept trying to setup MNs. So get your MN setup and get regular income starting June 14! This is a solid opportunity in my view. I've setup 5 MNs already. Just setup another one. MN count is now 376. We do lockdowns of all ports with firewall and upgrade your openSSL to version 1.0.1g.
