Any news regarding an algorithm change?
Nick Gogerty No plans right now. the general consensus is that mining is a "Red Queen" competition which will have electricity resources deployed up to and until the marginal return doesn't warrent a return. Whether those resources create 1 MHs or 1 GHs is largely irrelevant. A more germain issue is network stability and block-chain integrity. The degree to which that may be improved vs. the risk and disruption of chasing every new algo is the real debate. The "efficiency" argument is false, as the efficiency at the individual miner level doesn't matter to the mission, it is the relative progress in blockchain stability over the long term that matters. Happy to hear arguments. Doug Felman and Justin Levinson might be best to take this up with in the forums. Remember though more hashing is less important and efficiency / hash is not really an issue given the marginal utility model of resource consumption. Feel free to discuss in the forumshttp://solarcoin.org/forum/index.php...

I think an algorithm change is ridiculous. ASIC's are far more energy efficient than GPU's despite the algorithm used. Unless ASIC's are designed to use X11 for example, it's a dumb argument.

I do not agree with this look at litecoin and bitcoin they did not change and they prospered.

Is there any p2pool code for this coin? I'd love to add it to my pools.

Then pity me because this is the only coin I have been mining for over 2 months. And I don't regret any of it, because it is the one coin with the most potential. Solar power is more popular now than ever and it's popularity is ever increasing. Giving grants to solar power producers means a coin distribution to a populace that is far beyond that of greedy miners. When this coin is worth $1, or even $0.10, then I will be pitying you for not believing in it.

Is there anyone (besides myself) that had simultaneously mined Solarcoin while generating solar power? I currently have a 17,820 watt @ STP solar panel array grid tie system. I had previously mined Solarcoin with ~3 MH/s via GPU mining when the mining difficulty was below one in late January. However, now that Scrypt asics have become more proliferated among the mining community increasing the network hash rate. I've since continued investing in solar coin while mining various X11 algorithm based coins depending on profitability. Economically, there may be significant incentive to build a grid tie solar system depending on local power costs and the value of awarded SRECs. I live in Loudoun, VA where I pay electricity at a rate of .14 $/kwh ,and typically the granted SRECs I receive average $250 in value when traded. In total I save/earn $1,600 per month depending on local weather conditions affecting solar panel performance. I expect to make ROI within the next two years mainly attributed to the fact that much of the labor was committed by a small local labor contractor rather than contracting a professional solar array installer. List of Costs: 66 x LG 270w Mono X Modules = $13,614 2 x SMA 8000US-12 grid tie inverters = $6231 Miscellaneous costs (wire, fuses, PVC pipes, and etc.) = $651 Ground mount construction and labor = $4541 Electrician and permits = $822 Total Cost= (initially) $25,859 or $18,101 after receiving the maximum 30% Residential Renewable Energy Tax Credit Proof of my system is presented below Anyone else have solar array pictures to share?

Amazing have you claimed solarcoins yet? From the pilot program.
I intend to gather a significant quantity of SRECs before claiming solarcoins in the future as it will save time compared to periodic solarcoin claims.

Hi Everyone, Some exciting things are happening with SolarCoin. I'm an active volunteer for the SolarCoin Foundation and I want to share with you all that the team has been doing a lot of work behind the scenes and things are moving forward on several fronts. Legal incorporation of the Foundation and transparent disclosure of security policies for the §98 billion Generator Pool, §400 million Charitable Trust and §100 million Operations Trust are among the most immediate priorities. We chose an awesome and very marketable symbol for our currency: §. We are working on promotional materials such as slideshow presentations and bumper stickers. We will try to get listed on MintPal and/or Cryptsy (see this post in the SolarCoin forum for thoughts on that). During periods when the price is stagnant or going down, it can be frustrating for investors and supporters of a coin, especially if they don't know whether progress is being made to achieve goals and priorities. Let me assure you that the SolarCoin team is working hard and making progress. Volunteers for the Foundation read all the various forums and listen and think seriously about everyone's ideas and concerns. Although §SLR has not yet received much attention in the cryptocurrency community, it has received more attention than 99% of other cryptocurrencies in the real world media -- and the reason is, we've got a great team, a great purpose and a great plan for making SolarCoin succeed as a long-term challenger to Bitcoin. SolarCoin: the sleeper coin of 2014. To the Sun! Freebird
