I would love to buy one of the books in Solarcoin and have it delivered to New Zealand. Is there any way we can pay more solar to include the delivery cost. It looks like a good book and will be nice to see what ideas Nick has.

I suppose there would be nothing to stop you (or anyone really) from paying more than the §300.  Grin

If solarcoins start seing 100% gains day by day when the block reward to pos/1 is completed we are going to attract a lot of outsiders.
Something solarcoin has not been able to do yet.

let the pump begin.  Grin

The trifecta of volume, upward price movement and increased hash power looks really nice today.  Grin Grin Grin

geez, highest difficulty I've seen yet. I guess because of the price rise. That probably means those miners will be dumping soon, but luckily that won't stop the pump since PoS is right around the corner. I'm excited!!

I know things are all inter-related, but I'm not sure the hash rate jump is entirely to do with the price rise, it could be more to do with the coming PoS change. i.e. Start hoarding now, especially if you have a scrypt rig to mine, while it's raining SLR. They're gonna dry up fast in a few short weeks unless you generate solar electricity to claim them or have a decent size of holdings to mint them after the switch. There may not be much dumping in the short term if that's what is happening. Smiley

I'm mining with about 100MHs right now and I have no intention of selling them until after the switch to PoS and then I may let some go to help liquidity until claimants start piling on to spark supply again.

Honestly, I'm surprised to the see the price rising so much even before the fork begins. I figured buyers would want to wait until the dumpers are done dumping, but I guess if the price is expected to see 3000 satoshis, then even 1000 satoshis is a great deal!

Wonder why Bittrex has not removed their take down warning?  Surely the volume has risen enough this week to take it out of possible de-listing!

The "pump" (really just a revaluation) may have already started. I didn't think it would happen so soon, but lots of people read Bitcointalk forums and when word goes out that a PoW coin with a big block reward is going to implement scarcity and switch to PoS, it's no surprise that some people are jumping the gun and bidding up the price before it even happens.

SolarCoin has never had more than a few BTC volume per day, and most days in our trading history have been around 0.5 to 1 BTC total volume. Most of that has been long-term investors steadily buying the glut of coins being continuously dumped by miners. If the speculative traders ever jump on board this coin and we get days with hundreds of BTC in panic buying -- as happens with many coins that trade on Bittrex -- it's anyone's guess where the price could end up after the transition to PoS. The price going up fast, in and of itself, may attract new people to jump on board the solar train. I guess we'll find out soon enough.  Grin

The SolarCoin "IPO" is almost over... Talk about hiding in plain sight, I think we've mastered it people!  Grin

On another, more important note. I've been wondering, if you had a 10kW system on your house (which I am planning to do as soon as I can afford it) and you have had it since 2010 which is as far back as the initial grant will go, then we know that you can claim around 60 SLR from the Generator pool immediately AND you continually get grants for another 7.5 SLR every six months (as we are temporarily set up now for grants) for as long as that system generates solar electricity. My question is this (and I don't know the answer):

What value would SolarCoin need to be (in fiat) for you to take the 5 minutes to claim those coins? Keeping in mind that if you stake them in a PoS model you could also earn 1.5% on those holdings?

Next question: What value would SolarCoin need to be for you to actively go out and purchase a system to generate solar power?

I think the first question is more relevant for the next 6 months to a year let's say and should be easier to answer. The second question has more variables as the time line moves out and is more difficult to predict. So let's stick with the first question.

Is it $0.10? $0.50? $1? More? My personal opinion is north of $1 somewhere but I'm highly biased.  Wink

Whatever that number is on average is where we need to be in the next 6-12 months to ensure the mission becomes successful.

Since the ultimate goal is PoS, why favor Option 1 over Option 3?

I vote Option 3, unless for some reason people think Option 1 would lead to a larger price rise.

Option 1 or 1B would produce a couple million fewer coins into circulation, so the price might rise a bit faster and higher. But I don't think it would be a big difference. We might have 33 million coins in circulation when we switch to PoS instead of 35 million, something like that. About 5-10% fewer coins.

Option 3 might give us a somewhat better chance of persuading pools to switch to the fork. But I don't know enough about how pools operate to have an informed opinion about those prospects. Anyone want to weigh in that?

Instead of persuading pools, why don't we setup our own Solarcoin pool with 0 pool fee ? It cant be so hard. If there someone experienced about pool setup, I can provide a server on azure.

I assume you mean for the purposes of forking the coin successfully once the algorithm is done?

Yes exactly.

We can start trying build a pool fot the current algorithm and when the new one is ready, replace it.

Finally I managed to setup a Solarcoin Pool  Grin Grin Grin

I am mining there now and testing block finds and payments. This pool is mostly for learning purposes. When the new source code available, I will update it. If the big pools refuses to upgrade, we can use this pool. If needed, I can give administrator user and passwords to the Solarcoin Board.

It uses a medium size server with 2 cores and 3.5GB ram. I can easily upgrade server later.

Awesome! I'll try it out when one of my contracts comes up later today. Smiley

I have a stupid question though... Is there such a thing as staking pools for PoS? And, if so, how does that work exactly?

I am not an expert about these issues maybe someone else can answer your questions Smiley

I am trying the pool with some hashpower and found 2 blocks so far  Cheesy I hope it works smoothly because it belongs to the solarcoin community.

Well done indeed.   I signed up - got the verification email - setup a worker - and then pointed my troublesome GridSeed miners (6Mh ish)  at your pool.  (A wicked test since they seem to be very fussy).

My username is the same as here to avoid confusion.

I am delighted to report that the stratum and vardiff are working perfectly and the little GridSeeds are humming along and the stats look sensible.  Response times are good - well there are only 2 users Smiley.  I shall test the payment system when I get something to send back.

In short - excellent.  Now let's pray you don't get swamped by whales Smiley
