What's the good word on the android wallet?
Even if you use Bitcoin through Tor, the way transactions are handled by the network makes anonymity difficult to achieve. Do not expect your transactions to be anonymous unless you really know what you're doing.

Hi guys I have a problem with mintcoin balance ....it's showing only 0.20246700 from 1.6 mil . Yesterday i created an backup wallet and then i downloaded the new version v1.8.0.0 .. after that I have this problem ...also i checked my address in block explorer and there it's showing real balance. What can be the problem ?

When you upgraded to v1.8, try deleting everything in your roaming MintCoin folder except the wallet.dat file, of course, such that you download the entire blockchain. Also, if that does not work, try using the repairwallet or salvagewallet features in the debug window.

What's the good word on the android wallet?

Paspi posted this two days ago, waiting on further updates from paspi or beaverslayer. We should see if we can get an additional bounty for the Bloom filters, either from the dev or raise it ourselves as a community.

Android wallet update:

Hello everybody; I'm working on a Java MintCoin library and an Android wallet.

For best security and long term development, I forked from latest bitcoinj last week. Converted it to Scrypt. Made it able to communicate with my local Mintcoin wallet over network. I just updated it to understand and accept PoS/PoW hybrid blocks, and I can announce you that it can sync with the blockchain from genesis block up to #239870, which is generated just minutes ago Smiley

There are some missing features yet:

- It can validate PoW block difficulties (calculation is a little different in PoW/PoS hybrids than pure PoW coins, PoS blocks affect calculations, and modifying bitcoinj library for this task really had some challenges) ; but it doesn't try to validate PoS block difficulties yet (this is a security issue and will be fixed before releasing)

- It doesn't verify POW block rewards (due to the fact that I couldn't find a specific pseudorandom generator implementation that decides on randomized POW block rewards). I don't think this would be an issue as the main use case would be a Simple Payment Verification wallet, checkpoints will cover our security up to removal of PoW from MintCoin (though it will be nice to have the checks in place)

- Minting: It's now almost clear that minting would be possible even in SPV wallet mode. I will annonuce details later. I have to figure out validating PoS blocks first.

- UI: I'm just trying to get the pure library working properly now. Once the library is working, it'll be very easy to fork/make an Android App that uses it

- Bloom filters: Here is a request for the community: Current Mintcoin wallet doesn't support Bloom filters. Bloom filters allow SPV clients download only the transactions they're interested in (instead of all transactions in blocks), reducing mobile users' data usage dramatically. Please put a bounty on it so that someone can merge it from bitcoin client. Android wallet will work without Bloom Filter support in the main client, but its data usage would be much more.

I repaired my wallet and it didn't do anything, it said wallet integrity true or something along those lines. My config file is the official one that came with the upgrade. It still keeps periodically saying ~8000 blocks remaining to sync, then after a while it will go away, then come back...Huh

I think that is due to other people still using the old wallet. Beaverslayer said something about this a while back. It doesn't affect your ability to mint or send/receive transactions, I can attest to that as my wallet does the same thing but I still mint/send/receive coins.

I believe so, or if a large enough majority of people do? Like I said, it's not a problem it's just a little annoying to look at. Somebody had mentioned preventing previous versions (1.6 and prior) of the wallet from connecting to the network on the next wallet upgrade, thereby requiring people to upgrade (which people should have by now anyways, it was a mandatory upgrade from 1.6 to 1.7/1.8 ).

Hi guys,

I'm having some major problem upgrading my wallet to the latest (v1.5 -> v18).  So I downloaded the latest wallet and launched it, and it gave me an error message: blkindex.dat cannot be loaded.

So then I went into '%appdata' and delete the file blkindex.dat. Now the wallet loads fine, but the old balance disappears!  I cannot see the old transaction details, and the balance is zero! (But the receiving addy is correct tho).

What happened to my wallet?  Cry Cry I'm getting really nervous now. Please help me, guys.  Thanks in advance!

Hey Wiz,

When you upgrade from any wallet before 1.7, you will need to go into your roaming MintCoin folder and delete everything except your wallet.dat file before you download the new wallet so that you can download the blockchain from the beginning. If you already did that or that doesn't work, try using the repairwallet or salvagewallet functions in the debug window. Don't worry, as long as you have your wallet.dat then your coins are safe on the blockchain just waiting for you to connect to them.

I have a pretty basic question, and would appreciate anyone to give me advice.

1. How do I change my wallet from one pc to the next with all the data/coins

2. I want a backup in case my computer crashes. Do I simply copy the backup dat file to a storage disk?

Sorry for the basic Question, but I'm no computer wiz Wink

1. Download Mint wallet on the PC you wish to transfer to, open it and let it sync. Then copy your wallet.dat file over and add it into the folder. Smiley Re-open wallet, see your coins. Smiley

2. To backup your wallet, all you need to do, is keep that wallet.dat in a safe place, USB stick, dropbox, whatever you like. Smiley I'd rename it something like Mint-Backup-15-April.dat, then when you want to open it up, rename it to wallet.dat again and boom. Smiley

Thanks so much for your help, but I'm using a mac (I forgot to mention).

I've synched a new wallet on my other mac, but copying the dat file sounds simple, but I just can't do it. This has to be way way more simple in the furture if Cryptos are to become more mainstream. All the online help files say "simply copy the dat file to the folder" , but I see no folder. Just the wallet application. Driving me nuts  Huh

The simple way to move coins between one computer and another is to send them as a transaction

True, but I'm doing this as a test so if my MAC crashes, I will be able to get my wallet.dat from a usb and load it on another machine. Doing this for security, but it's just too complicated without someone showing me.

welcome to mintcoin new people this is how to encrypt your mintcoin wallet (encrypting will not affect coin age)
but remember to unlock every 20 days to receive your fresh new mintcoins  Grin

video -
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9jglmkwlpyM&feature=youtube_gdata

step by step -
1. click settings
2. click encrypt wallet
3. type password (do not forget your password)
and its that easy

to unlock
1. click the unlock bar at bottom of wallet
2. type password

tip - when backing up your wallet back it up with the password on for extra security (back up to a different pc or a usb or cloud service)
tip - if you close your wallet with it unlocked it will automatically lock again

also see where you rank on the mintcoin richlist!!

Cant you just do file-backup waller and save it on your usb?
But then i dont know how to import it in you other wallet without using the file system (there are no file-import as far as i know..)
