I've messed with some stuff in my iptables, now port 3333 will redirect to 3334 and in case of further attacks on 3333 I can just comment it out, restart service, and bam.

Edit: and yay, people are reconnecting. I knew it, lots of unattended miners trying to connect.

see, I knew you would get it Wink let's Octo the shit out of this, f*** the DDoSers

Edit: please update the message on the pool's board, let everybody know they can use both ports for now Smiley

Haha, I wish I knew a way to fight back. These DDoS'ing idiots, I don't know if they do it just for the hell of it, or if they're profiting in some fashion. I wouldn't go as far as making accusations, but who knows, could be a scheme by a somewhat morally challenged pool op to bring in more traffic!

Who wants to sign up for my botnet, and kick back? j/k

I'm still learning some of the ins and outs of running pools, and unfortunately DDoS type situations can be by far the most confusing and frustrating. For a little while there I had no idea what was going on. And to think I nearly turned off logging for my stratum server!

yeah there's always a reason or motive for someone to pull DDOS. who knows why but it seems to happen to any good coins taking off.

The kind of talent and resources needed to pull that off could be put to much better use, I would imagine.

On another note, if people who are mining with other pools wouldn't mind taking a second, I would like to know what percentage of rejected (stale) shares they're getting at other pools, in particular pool-wide stale percentages. My pool is at 0.36% rejected shares on average, tomorrow I'm going to play with a few tweaks to see if we can make that number smaller. This is but one of the things that I think about lying in bed, trying to go to sleep. I think I'm just a bit obsessive, I can barely stand to look at my own PC, the case is smashed and deformed, the heatsink stoved in on one side, thanks to my ex.

The worst part is that you can't solomine this one.  Every single one of my solomined coins are gone. Sure I can mine more, but they don't "count" they don't go to the right address and show up on the block explorer. Haven't heard a peep out of the dev on this issue. I've never had this issue with any other coin.

Very true. Definitely a waste of talent.

I'll have to check the stats and let you know. I don't see where it shows the rejected shares.

How many solo mined coins did you lose?

I've been able to solo successfully, when difficulty allows.

I've been able to solo successfully too, but the coins mined don't exist.

Check your account balance in your wallet against the two block explorers.

http://coinok.pw/faucet/888/

guys please remember to donate some to the faucet. if it runs out of coins for 3 days (i think) he turns it off. it's currently at 37 and i'm about to shoot another 100 over to it.

here's the addy: 8JUmLkSZnfzuvnDjcP2LHD6SfoiWmBY1AW

it doesn't take much but it's been since this past saturday that the 100 coins i sent dwindled to 37. looks like a good 200 coins a week would ensure that it stays running at the current usage without worrying too much about it.

thx!

CharityMiningPools - Donate to Charity while you Mine!

888.charityminingpools.com

Be a pioneer and help us get started, come mine while making a difference.

Mandatory 0.5% donation fee goes to the BitGive Foundation this month.  We welcome and encourage you to donate more to a good cause.

STRATUM, VARDIFF, Datacenter Redundant Server Farm, Load Balanced Servers, Frequent Backups
0.5% Mandatory Donation fee to a Good Cause, 0.5% Pool Fees, 0% AP TX Fees

Who Are We?
CharityMiningPools was created to allow miners the ability to mine coins while still knowing that their hashing power is going towards something good.  Our goal is to provide a positive and reliable service while delivering a small portion of the proceeds to a deserving recipient.  Plans are in the works to allow individual miners to choose where they would like to donate to based on a pool of available recipients.

How Does This Work?
All coins minded at CharityMiningPools will require a mandatory 0.5% Donation fee.  This donation fee will be collected and donated to the designated charitable recipient for that given month.  Though we only require a minimum 0.5% Donation fee, we welcome and encourage our miners to raise the stakes and donate more to a good cause.

Cheers!

I've not had a problem solo mining. Doesn't make much sense for me since I only have 2 mh (about 1% of the average hash rate) meaning I only average finding a block once every few hours but this has nothing to do with a flaw in 888. I started solo mining after a couple pools had issues yesterday but will go back to the pools when I get a minute. Pretty obvious to me that you didn't set a low enough --expiry and were just finding orphans. Unless you have at least 25 mh you were solo mining with and had a reasonable expiry your post is the dumbest post in this thread. 888 has been out for 3 weeks, 50+ pages later nobody else has ever had this issue, and you haven't heard a peep out of the dev regarding this issue because it doesn't exist and you, the only person to ever have the issue, have never posted about it before once. Why in the hell wouldn't your first assumption be that it's something on your end?  Huh Sorry about the tone but like I said before I'm just so fed up with clueless people being convinced they know what they're talking about and pointing fingers. It's so frustrating and it's really hindering crypto. I guess we'll see if the dev has anything to add  Roll Eyes

I've been able to solo successfully too, but the coins mined don't exist.

Check your account balance in your wallet against the two block explorers.

How do I do that?

I just deleted and re-downloaded the block chain and everything is still in my wallet, including solo mined coins, doesn't that mean they're safe?

Maybe, maybe not.  My coins are in my wallet just not showing up in the block explorer. So basically if I tried to send them to somebody or an exchange they would never receive them even though they are "in" my wallet.

It's a really strange issue, the coins are each sitting in a new wallet address. Each time I found a block it created a new random address that nobody can get to.  Each of these addresses contain a single 888 coin block and nothing more according to the block explorer. I've never seen a wallet do this sort of thing while solomining. Clearly some coding error that maybe was fixed in the "b" version of the wallet.  All my solomining was done in the first days after launch, there was no updated version at that time.  I never did see any release notes or info regarding the upgrade to the new wallet on this thread so I'm not sure if this was one of the fixes or not, just guessing. Always guessing with this coin/dev.

Yes framealife I mentioned this issue before on this thread, as with most everything else it was ignored. It is looking like the dev cashed out and abandoned the project.
