Guys, we have to vote harder!

Crap! I've been doing some trading of another coin (so I can buy more 888) between Bittrex and another exchange and have shirked my voting responsibilities! May the OctoGods forgive me!  Wink  Tongue

Off to vote now...  Grin I'll try not to forget again.

Just wanted to make a quick announcement. Official launch of the 888 High/Lo casino is likely tomorrow! I'm pretty much certain the bugs are worked out now.

Another note, weird goings on with the pool. It's working fine and paying everyone out like it's supposed to, but my "locked for users" amounts aren't getting properly released after payout runs go through, so, when the mandatory update comes, if we start having problems with payout crons shutting themselves off, this is going to be the reason.

I added up everyone's balances, VERIFIED and validated payouts and checked those flagged missing against the block explorer just to be safe, accounted for unconfirmed, and still am coming up with a big number of coin that hadn't been released (fees, donations, etc). I withdrew this excess from the pool's wallet and it's going into next month's server bills and a small beer bounty for a helper I've got on board a couple of projects (some good stuff). If this causes any crap when we update to the hard fork wallet, I'll be doing a bit of database surgery to fix it. Still not convinced that the Octo wallet plays nice with MPOS. I'm seeing problems with the current unconfirmed just EATING the pool's liquid assets, come back an hour later and everything is fine. Strange stuff. First thing I did though is to make sure that nobody has gotten shafted, so hopefully all is well.

I'll try to get something together for the giveaway very soon.. I'm sorry, it's just projects on top of projects on top of LIFE SUCKS and kittens and an idiot dog tearing up and crapping all over the house, keeping me from focusing on any ONE thing at once.

Cross your fingers on the gaming, should be ready tomorrow. It's a high/lo game, but it's ENTIRELY ran on investments. You don't just throw coins into the daemon and open a user account and start betting. You open a user account, deposit coins, choose how much you invest (optional, though the game does not work at all if nobody has invested). For instance, if I were to log in and invest 10k, I would control 100% of the house, all losers money goes to me, but I solely pay the winners (and the game has mechanics to deal with your wagers, odds, max bets and winnings based on how much is in the investment pool, very well thought through). If I were to invest 10k and shellbunner were to invest 10k, then the losers bets would be split 50/50 to us, and so on and so forth, it even shows you the percentage of your investments, it has a panel that lets you verify the fairness of your rolls, everything. It's damn nice. And, the coolest thing is, (maybe not for some) it's OPEN SOURCE. Take that you lousy backdoored dice script writing bastids! I hope you guys are excited! BTW, probably shutting down the grids game, seems to be no activity. May boot her up again in the future though!

I think this game sounds more fun than the last... even just seeing who all is trying to have the most invested to control the game seems fun. although i don't see a lot of people tying and splitting 50/50 when the price of Octo is this low... to 1up someone to take control is cheap at the moment... so i think there will be a lot of 1upping and taking winnings while you can. it def sounds interesting.

Devs, i have a question to you.
Why are you don't using twitter since march? There are no announcements of wallet updates or any significant events.
It's really sad for those who believe in your coin, and i am one of them.

That's right. Twitter should be used (and maybe a new one with real followers, just for credibility).
But maybe it's because we should keep this coin a secret till the bonusblocks are over. Don't know.

Pretty much got everything worked out, just need to set it up for 888 now. May set it up for a couple of others, who knows! lol..

I'm concerned about the upcoming update, though.. hoping that we don't have problems with it, the pool is running a huge negative balance because of it not properly wiping off what it thinks its supposed to have.. I slightly changed some pool settings and see if it behaves more sanely? I hope.

Edit: going exhaustively through payout logs, I find that everyone's payouts are accounted for, but, the system has flagged a TON of payouts, i mean a TON, as "unpaid" via the validation script (meaning it's not finding txid), but if I pull up the address in my admin panel, there's the transaction, with TXID, and checks out in the block explorer. I talked to the MPOS dev a bit about it but the ticket got closed fast, according to him the first thing it does is removes the "lock" on those funds from the system when attempting to pay. Something with that is NOT working, because my system thinks it's holding on to payments that have been paid out. It's the wallet, though, not behaving itself on payout runs, so I think I'm going to have to find a solution to that by maybe slowing down payout runs quite a bit, and if the new wallet complains because we're "-50000" short (we're not, we're actually way over what we should be but I only have a rough estimate so I was being conservative when I moved some coins away).. This is likely to turn into a huge damned headache for me and is will most likely be COMPLETELY impossible to get the pool's accounting absolutely perfect, so sometime down the road, provided the new wallet behaves itself and processes payouts properly, we may transition the pool to a brand new "fresh" one. If that happens I will do my best to make it painless and see if there's a way I can port over everyone's users and workers, just without the balances, and mining can resume as normal. Ideally the only intervention required would be for users to jump into the old pool to withdraw their balances. I hate pointing fingers and blaming, I think MPOS and OctoCoin both are just not working well together. The first 2 weeks we had payout issue after payout issue and I believe that's why my numbers aren't lining up. It's frustrating because that extra coin that's "locked" by the system is intended to keep our system running and help support development for my side projects. Anyway, that's just a few thoughts off the top of my head, I just hate glitches like that. Please take note that this as of now does not affect users, and you're getting fully credited as always, it's just making headaches for me.. After the wallet update we'll see how it acts, if it gets pissed off about the "negative" liquid assets balance and continually halts crons, either database surgery is necessary (manually removing a few hundred of these "conflicted" transactions from my DB to even it out), or a fresh start (which I hate to do unless I can auto-port users and workers, then auto switch everyone over, where nobody notices a thing). Anyone got some input, or any other pool ops had the same type of experiences? All my pools are running the exact same version of MPOS but this is the only one acting up like this, and I am pretty certain it just boils down to "conflicted" transactions. So much fun! Anyone want my job for a week so I can do something, like get drunk and sleep?

Yup, hate to say it but niggling doubts starting to creep in for me.

  • The website hasn't been updated for ages
  • No tweets or other publicity
  • No news on products / services
  • No promised wallet update to address bonus block issue
  • FusionHash owe me 3090 Octo and refuse to respond via any channel, I even PM'd Octocoin and asked if they would have a word but no response to that from either party.
  • Starting to look around for something else to mine with ASIC's but everything is saturated.  It's all about finding the right coin if you want to ROI on them, thought I had but rather nervous about that now having sunk so much resource into mining/buying Octo with so little hard evidence of progress.

I really hope this niggling doubt is unfounded and there's a shit load of updates and good news just around the corner.

C´mon Octodevs, we have waited long enough now.

There's no panic.

I think the concern is, there is no anything. Updates would be nice. Being a Scrypt coin, electric costs can start adding up. Already had to sell off 50k Octo myself to pay the utils. Unfortunately, my electric rates go up May-Sept so I have had to switch rigs to a diff coin for the time being. But still holding the 888 I have left.

C´mon Octodevs, we have waited long enough now.

I'm kinda with you guys but I'm in it for the long haul.. Another coin I've been supporting is basically back from the dead, so it's really up to us whether it succeeds or not. Worse comes to worse, there's always options to keep things going. I have left a detailed issue on github about the wallet not being nice with MPOS. If/when the wallet update comes we probably will be swapping pools, I've got it worked out though, it'll be painless. The only thing the users will have to do is log into the old pool to pull out their balances. Wallet just caused too many payout issues that have left our DB in a bad state. I know people are having doubts, but please, have NO doubt that good ol Edric is on top of things, everyone gets paid for every KH. I hate to badmouth anyone at all but with FH owing someone coins and they don't respond to support, this is a good reason to swap to my pool. We usually are seeing pretty good hashrates but today is damn dismal. Maybe because of the posts I made causing doubts, but rest assured, everyone's getting paid, I personally attend to anyone who has doubts, issues, or concerns about payouts. My advice to those having doubts about the coin itself, just stick around, hold what ya got or sell and keep mining, I don't think Octo is gonna die.

On a side note, it's looking GOOD for the investable gambling platform, seems that the bugs are worked out finally so I'm about ready to fire it up for you guys. It's awesome in that the profits won't solely be just for me, anyone can invest and profit. We're testing it out on another coin called Denarius (sorry for mentioning another coin in this thread XD) and so far so good. I think it's really going to be good for octo! I may end up straight up replacing the grids game with it though, so WITHDRAW if you have anything in there. Best thing about the new game is you can create an actual account with a password so no losing coins because you closed the page and cleared cookies.

C´mon Octodevs, we have waited long enough now.

TBH, I thought I would get flamed for posting that but it seems a few others are like minded.  I don't want to bad mouth the coin, I'm sat on an awful lot of them, that would be stupid.  I'm keeping what I've got and crossing my fingers but for the time being I'm moving on to mining something else to hedge my bets.

As for updates, progress, etc. we are a VERY patient bunch in here as this place has been something of a haven from the other forum threads that seem to bring out the worst of the trolls. I really hope our faith is going to be rewarded and the dev's are going to pull something out of the hat ASAP.  We can't be a confident community going out and spreading the word without a solid dev team with solid plans to underpin everything.

Yeah, there's no reason to get flamed..... you said what you had to say and you were very respectful. i don't think anyone here wants to badmouth the coin or the pools or the devs. really you shouldn't for the sake of the coin. but at the same token, we have all been very patient here i think. many of us have seen many times where issues with transactions and the wallet have been repeatedly posted here and emailed.

I am glad we are all patient. Most people you see on other threads aren't very patient at all. I think as a group, we have all stuck around when it would be very easy to move on to another coin. I think, though, at the end of the day we all believe and think this coin is going to do big things. Honestly, when the devs post and then run a little behind, i just assume they are busy and running behind  like normal. It doesn't bother me because this coin wasn't instantly on a large exchange and dumped. I would be super worried if it had been then the devs or pools didn't respond much.

The only thing that worries me is that I mine as Fusion Hash..... I hope I never have to deal with an issue like this.

Nonetheless, I'm sure they'll get back to you eventually. Good luck!

Edric, my 4 mhs rig, normally mining at your pool, said goodbye with a bright thunder coming out of the power adaptor and a little burned smell  Cry... fu**ing shit  Angry   I hope that no other parts of the rig are dead too so i could point it at your pool in 24 hours again. It's my favorite one!  Grin

You don't live in abilene tx by any chance do ya? lol..
If so I'd fix your poor miner. I'm pretty damn good at breathing new life into dead electronics. If it was just the power adapter, find out what voltage and how many amps (important on amps), and find something that's around the same.. Even if the voltage is a bit higher it'll be ok, your rig will have a vrm onboard to deal with that. If the plug doesn't fit, splice it, but but make damn sure you get the polarity correct!

When I first started in the pool business I was impatient and really nervous, but being patient is key to this, apparently.. Heck, another coin I've been supporting for months and even helped on a relaunch JUST now started actually selling, so patience does pay off in the end. I don't think 888 is going away anytime soon, and after talking with the Octo spokesperson here, I get a pretty good sense that their intentions are to follow through with what they say, but having full time jobs and lives ruins even the most cautious timeline, for sure. I've never really had doubts on this coin, not to say I believe it's going to blow up like BTC one day but who knows, but I will admit I'm guilty as hell of dumping coins when I should be hanging on to them, and I feel like a @$$ for it, but gotta pay the server bills and stay alive while I work on building my empire! Whatever could be said about the devs or the Fusion Hash admins, I would hope you don't feel the same about me.. I may be, umm, eccentric and strange at times, but I'm doing my best to provide excellent services and support for everyone, find ways to contribute to the community, and do my best to not give pool admins a bad name. Plus, this is way better than a college education, alot more fun, and I sometimes even have a few extra bucks for junk food and beer.

I'm really just hoping and praying that when the wallet update comes (if it makes it out before the superblock cutoff rofl), the devs will seriously look into the matters I've been moaning about on here and github and get something done about it. It's likely the reason Jagged is missing those coins from FusionHash, they run MPOS as well so they likely had transactions bail out too. I keep a close eye on mine.

And on that note, a few minutes before starting this post I made several small changes to the pool's configuration, to see if earnings estimations even out a little bit. It shouldn't affect share numbers too much, just averages a bigger sample of blocks, maybe that'll help. I also enabled the sendmany payout option for the wallet, I want to see how it handles payouts with that. I'll be keeping an eye out, but if you're missing any payouts, please contact me, I'll take care of you.

I hope none of you guys are put off by what I was talking about in previous posts, about starting with a fresh pool. Regardless of sounding like a broken record, the reason for possibly doing this (we may, may not) just has to do with internal bookkeeping problems caused by the wallet sending errors during payout runs, but payouts succeeding anyway. It'd take days to fix it by hand, but a new pool would be a lot easier. All your shares and coins are and will be perfectly safe, and you'll be able to withdraw them from the old pool, and log into and mine in the new pool as if nothing happened, no re-registering or anything. Just wanted to put that out there so you guys know exactly what's up. I don't like being kept in the dark so I won't do that to you.

I owe all of you quite a bit of gratitude (and then some) for sticking around my pool and giving the "small guy" a fighting chance. I may not be raking in the big bucks, but I manage. The mining gear shellbunner sent me is a huge help, though! I really love it, got it pretty much tweaked to max speed, though I need to go dumpster diving or something to scavenge some fans to help cool the main rig off, I can only turn it up to max at certain times. Brings in a couple bucks a day though, depending on how I push it, and what I mine.. Usually octos though.

Anyway, I guess that's it, just stuff bouncing around in my head, been a weird few days.. I'm gonna get back to work on the 888 casino, hopefully start giving it some test runs later tonight! When it's ready, I'll be sure to let you guys know, you guys invest some octos in it, we spread the word to get people playing, and all share in profits! Means we need to get more people interested in octo.

well coinpine.pw has started sniping the bonus blocks again, sorry guys, i thought that they would be honourable. i told them i'd put my 20M rented rig on their pool for 7 days, and i did, i was a man of my word. it went down a couple times due to issues on my rented rig's end, and about 18 hours ago it was down for 4 hours. my rig renter told me that it wasn't on his end, that it was the pool issue, so i switched to a different octo pool and it was working fine. i told niceman about this, he didn't respond and went back to exploiting the bonus blocks. i've neen in touch with the octocoin devs, and they assure me that a solution is forthcoming in the very near future. hold on guys.
