Jaffna Kings vs Colombo Strikers
Today the first match of Sri Lanka Premier League Jaffna Kings vs Colombo Strikers has started. Colombo Strikers won the toss and elected to bowl. Jaffna Kings lost the toss and went into bat and collected 28 runs after losing 1 wicket in 3 overs. Rahmanullah Gurbaz was dismissed for 21 runs off 11 balls. Naseem Shah got the first wicket. Both teams have good players. Today the match will be played full of competition.

I was a bit surprised to see Babar Azam not given captaincy of Colombo Strikers instead Niroshan Dickwella was given captaincy. I also don't know why  Vijayakanth Viyaskanth was given man of the match for his 2 wicket spell when Towhid Hridoy has scored a blistering half century on just 39 balls. Its a good start from Jaffna Kings after getting victory by 21 runs.

Secondly, the World Cup is being played in the USA. So making the World Cup more competitive and one of the biggest is certainly going to bring in a good amount of money.

You cannot expect a competitive World Cup with 20 teams who does not have the skill level anywhere near to compete against the top 5 teams. The venue is US and the only country that does not have a fan base for Football and Cricket and may be ICC is trying their best to tap that part of the market. There is a newfound interest in Football and Cricket among the general public in US after lockdown as many popular social media influencers from US started posting about the sport and reviewing the videos.

I am certainly hoping to see some good upset matches being made in this World Cup. remember when the last time a lot of teams competed in the World Cup? It was the 2007 ODI World Cup. And a lot of things that are really weak in power were actually able to beat some very powerful teams in the World Cup. So I am expecting something like that to happen in this World Cup as well. I am not saying every match is going to be competitive.

I think we all know that in any match that the USA team is going to play, it’s basically going to be a free win for The other team. But it will certainly be interesting if a team like Scotland or some associate team actually ends up beating a team like India or England. I also want to say that for a long time, we have been seeing not enough number of teams in the World Cup. At least that is being fixed. So let’s just not complain about it and see what happens.

We have discussed about this issue (teams entirely comprised of foreigners) manytimes in the past. The issue is that ICC fund allocation primarily depends on the performance of the team. Therefore many of the associate nations try to bring in first class players from India and Pakistan, so that they can compete well in these tournaments. Take Danmark for example. Two decades ago, they were one of the strongest associate sides and almost the entire squad was native. Now there is hardly 1-2 natives in their squad. However Italy surprised everyone this time. Their squad is almost 90% native.

Its unfortunate that cricket has been made joke by rich countries who can afford importing players from South Asia. ICC still is not clear about how to manage cricket and run the affairs. Anyone who has money can take driving seat in ICC. Right now ICC is completely controlled by big 3 and small boards have no say in ICC affairs. As long as there is no neutral entity that is controlling ICC we will keep on seeing such issues and there will be no one to resolve these issues.

I don't know what is the strategy of ICC to include those rich countries in cricket. But it is certain that whatever ICC does, it must be done in the interest of cricket. But how successful are they in the strategy they are using? Cricket does not seem to be making much progress in the long run. If the rich countries in their group import everything from outside, then what is their own identity? They can't say anything with pride. I am really concerned with the ICC contribution about those rich countries that one time will go in vain.

There are a lot of cricket fans in the United States, but hardly anyone among them support the US national team. Right now I am watching the final of the Major League Cricket, which is being played between Seattle Orcas and MI New York. Huge number of fans are attending this match, but none of them would care if the US team is playing.

Now Asia B Qualifier matches are going on. And if we saw the point table so we will see that Malaysia and Thailand teams are on top. Both teams have 6…6 points. And today China vs Myanmar will play 9th match. Both teams performance is same both teams win any match in this league. But in these two team I think Myanmar will win the match. And tomorrow is the match between top teams. Means Malaysia and Thailand. This match will be interesting.

Currently Malaysia and Thailand leading the table with three wins and zero losses. Both of them are playing really well. Both of them has played three matches each end. All the other teams have played for matches. Bhutan has two wins and two losses. China has one win and three losses. Myanmar has played for matches and did not win even a single one.

The next match is going to be very important. Malaysia is going to play against Thailand. Both of them are at the top of the standings. It will be interesting to see which team will win. which ever team wins in this match is going to have a big advantage. I think the team winning this match is not going to drop down from the first place.

Seattle Orcas  vs MI New York

MI New York has won the first ever T20 league in Dallas، USA by 7 wickets۔ Seattle Orcas gave a target of 184 runs that include  Quinton de Kock 87 runs on just 52 balls. The target was easily chased by MI New York in 16th over. Nicholas Pooran was not out on 137 runs on 55 balls. He was also player of the match.
With too much leagues the interest is getting lesser and lesser. West Indies performance is going down but there players are present in every T20 league and giving good performance.

Today 2nd Match of Galle Titans vs Dambulla Aura team has already started.Galle Titans came to bat first.Given a target of 180 runs in 20 overs.Galle Titans made the right runs to win the runs.Now if Galle Titans perform well in the bowling line.  Galle Titans team batsman Bhanuka Rajapaksa is out for 48 runs off 34 balls. Bhanuka Rajapaksa has done well in batting. Dambulla Aura will come out to bat after a little while. In this match Dambulla Aura team batsmen if  Dambulla Aura can't win this match if they can't bat well. Looks like we can enjoy a very nice match between the two teams. Malaysia is showing good performance in this tournament so far. So I genuinely expect them to at least give a good fight to the teams that they are going to face later. Of course, the probability is against Malaysia. Thailand was the second most dominating team in this competition. And Malaysia beat them like nothing. So I think people can actually hope for good performance from them going forward.

From the Africa qualifier, I don’t know who the other team is going to be at. I am sure that Zimbabwe is going to be one team to qualify for sure. Unless we have some absurd things happen like what happened with the Netherlands and West Indies.

Malaysia has almost zero chance of qualifying for the main tournament. As far as the Asian associates are concerned, Nepal is the best right now. Then we have United Arab Emirates, Oman and Hong Kong. But there are only two slots available. Anyone outside these four teams have only a very low chance of qualifying. And regarding the Africa qualifier, I guess it will be Zimbabwe and Namibia. These two are well ahead of the rest, especially since Kenya is almost defunct. Nigeria and Uganda are emerging as promising teams, but it will take them some time to get to the same level as Namibia.
