Gujarat Titans had the best players and they were the heavy favorites with the best bowlers in Rashid Khan and Mohammed Shami, the inform batsman in Shubman Gill while Chennai Super Kings was winning because of their tactical game plans and the genius of MSD, promoting Ajinkya Rahane as a pinch hitter along with Shivam Dube and grooming the youngster Maheesh Theekshana.

Just compare the two squads and you can see that Gujarat Titans were much stronger (at least on paper). Out of the 12 players in Gujarat playing XI (including the impact substitute), 7 were regular internationals - Shubman Gill, Hardik Pandya, Rashid Khan, David Miller, Josh Little, Noor Ahmad and Mohammed Shami. On the other hand, Chennai squad had only 4 regulars - Devon Conway, Ravindra Jadeja, Moeen Ali and Maheesh Theekshana. In the end, Mahendra Singh Dhoni was able to lead Chennai Super Kings to a victory, despite majority of the CSK players being inexperienced.     

Yes, Shubman Gill, Hardik Pandya, Rashid Khan, David Miller and Mohammed Shami are some of the best players in this team as well as in this tournament. Compared to them, CSK looked very weak. But the team had confident because of Mahendra Singh Dhani. When the 2nd innings started CSK was playing confidently and they scored according to their need. But the cricket world realized that CSK was under a lot of pressure in the end but having much pressure CSK won the final match. Although Devon Conway was considered player of the match after CSK's win but Shubman Gill was the player of the series.

Shubman Gill is a very good player it has to be acknowledged.  Because he has been seen playing very well in every match.  But unfortunately even with a player like Shubman Gill, Gujarat lost the IPL by Duckworth–Lewis–Stern method. It is normal that one team will lose and one team will win in the game but sometimes it becomes very difficult to accept some results.  Because even though Gujarat performed very well, going to the final and losing like this is not easy to accept

Gujarat played IPL final against CSK after Shubman Gill performed well. With 10 runs needed off the last two balls, Shubman Gill had nothing to do. It is normal to lose in the game. Based on the performance of the two teams in the final match, we cannot say which team performed worse than the other team. 

We can't blame Mohit Sharma as he conceded just three runs off the first four balls of the last over but the last two balls changed the outcome of the game. 

Gujarat lost CSK won but we are looking forward to a good tournament this season. All the best to Gujarat Titans, hope they do better next season

First of all the rain in the match caused a lot of problems and the match had to be delayed. Due to not playing at the right time, the preparation of the players has also been disrupted. But Gujarat played well and gave Chennai the target with good runs. But Gujarat lost on DLS method. Most of the players from Gujarat are capable of playing very good cricket.  So it is possible for them to do something good.  Which will definitely do in the future. India is very good at cricket so good things can be expected from them

Gujarat Titans did not win the final but had a consistent performance. In the final match, there was a possibility of victory at the end of the match, but at that moment  the bowler failed and by the last two deliveries CSK won the match. By this incident it doesn't mean they are worse than CSK.

I think comparatively Gujarat Titans players were strong enough but luck was not with them. As a result they lost the final match. But nobody can be blamed for that loss. Because they managed to score 214 runs. Moreover, they had the leadership in the entire IPL from the beginning of this session.

That's true both of the teams were really good but obviously that was a game one has to win and one has to loose . Gujarat titan got little unlucky with last 2 balls otherwise that was a neck to neck match.
Chennai super kings were really good with batting they chased the target pretty conveniently.

But even after that CSK did really well to get to the reduced target which was given through the Duckworth-Lewis method. On paper, CSK had no chance. But they overcame all the obstacles.

Questioning Dhoni's captaincy? Lol. I have no idea who those people are, but they are seriously dumb as hell to question his captaincy after all his achievements so far. He is the greatest legend in the history of cricket in my opinion.

Also, writing off CSK just because the target was 200+ is downright silly. This is the IPL where miracles happen on a regular basis.

Remember the match in which MS Dhoni wanted to bowl with a certain player and the umpire said that he cannot because he just came onto the field? And MS Dhoni started wasting time? He took the over-rate penalty but still went on with his initial plan. That was really unbelievable thinking from him. Anyway, he was certainly the best captain India has ever got. I do not care what any people say.

In the video clip, we can clearly see MS Dhoni wasting time talking with the umpires.

Yeah I agree, GT and CSK both are level in quality and performance which is good as we can expect good healthy rivalry between them in coming competitions as well with MI could be also on same level, but they need new blood for the better performance because their few players are not as par requirement, so they are having trouble in early matches and at the end they were completely failed to give any solid resistance.

In final match of this season I also agreed after giving the best performance GT still lost because luck was completely not with them even their batting were at his best and bowlers were also giving their best, but lady of luck was giving good favor to Jadeja and CSK which hit last good runs for the title.

Without the DLS, Chennai would have really struggled to chase the target. They had already lost 5 wickets and the last recognized batting pair was at the crease. And even then, they won with zero balls to spare. This is where small fielding mishaps and dropped catches come to play. Also, the bowlers will be cursing the extras they conceded in the form of wides and no-balls. Meanwhile some of the commentators are coming down heavily on Hardik Pandya. They are claiming that Mohit Sharma was bowling really well, until Hardik walked up to him and gave him instructions before the 5th ball of the final over.

Wrong. The DLS method actually favoured GT over CSK when you think about it. CSK needed to chase down 171 in just 15 overs(90 balls) which implies that they would have had to score just 44 runs in remaining 30 balls. Think!

200+ scores are no longer safe and this particular IPL season has clearly proven that.

If you are supporting Gujarat Titans, you do not feel bad as your team played very well and fought till the end. In fact if you ask me, Chennai super kings were losing the match as they needed 10 of the last two balls. Had any one of those last two balls, didn't went out to the boundary, Gujarat Titans would have won the match.

I would say that both teams were a winner that day, Gujarat Titans should not feel bad for that final and happy that the trophy was lifted by the Indian legend Ms Dhoni. It was not a Chennai super kings win, in fact, it was an Indian Win.

I am a Dhoni fan but this particular incident was a dick move from him, normally captain gets a 100% fine or worse match ban when they deliberately rig the gameplay.

In the past, many captains faced the consequence and were slapped with the fine for less but he's powerful enough to influence even the match referee.

It isn't an honorable move for sure, but it's not such a big deal either. Honestly, I would have done the same if I were in his position since the pros outweigh the cons in the grand scheme overall.

Also, I read somewhere that the worst that the umpires could do was to give Dhoni a warning since it was his first offence in the match. Smart move by a uber-cool captain!

Result? They went on to win the qualifier 1 and final and became 5 time champs. A small sacrifice for the greater good basically.

Ravindra Jadeja, Deepak Chahar and Maheesh Theekshana already bowled their quota of overs and MSD wanted to bowl Matheesha Pathirana as he had 3 overs left in his quota and he only used the loophole that was available as this was the first warning by umpires even if they did that and only then the umpires could award the opposition team with 5 penalty runs for the delay and from what i understand the umpires even did not consider that situation.

If Hardik Pandya opposed the move then the match referee could have taken the action like you mentioned, do you really think that any players who played under him will raise any complaint against MSD.

That's a problem, remember one time Harsha Bhogle was sacked from a commentary gig because he criticized Dhoni, which Dhoni & his cheerleader didn't like. There were a couple of other reasons too but this was one of the major reasons he got axed.

Agreed, if it was some other player surely he could've received some penalty. In all means he had followed the rules, so the umpires haven't made any comments on it. The time he wastes will end the innings delay two overs at the end. This allows just 4 players outside. He had opted the risk and brought win to the team. I disagree. I believe several commentators were pissed with what he did during that match(Gavaskar, Harsha etc). Also, I don't think others would have been treated harshly either as long as this was their first offence in the match.

IMO It's the same loophole as a short run scenario when batters want a strike and deliberately run short.

We are too small to validate what's right and wrong when lines are blurred or even sometimes when it's crystal clear. Literally, everyone is a victim of their bias and it's normal.
