NEW TOPIC: UN urges Nigeria, others on crypto regulation Do you think Nigeria will adhere to this, also do you think businesses/individual are intentionally engaging in cryptocurrency to avoid tax?

Quote
The United Nations Conference on Trade and Development has said financial regulation of cryptocurrencies through exchanges, digital wallets, and decentralised finance will enable global authorities to tax digital assets.

The agency said balances presently kept in crypto were untaxed, and most developing countries did not have tax regulations on digital currencies, enabling owners to evade and avoid tax payments.

It disclosed this in its Policy Brief No. 102 titled, ‘The cost of doing too little too late: How cryptocurrencies can undermine domestic resource mobilisation in developing countries.’

UNCTAD explained that while crypto could facilitate remittances, it could also enable tax evasion or avoidance through offshore flows whose ownership is not easily identifiable, curbing the effectiveness of capital controls, a key instrument for developing countries to preserve their policy and fiscal space and macroeconomic stability.

It said, “Cryptocurrencies share all the characteristics of traditional tax havens — the pseudonymity of accounts, and insufficient fiscal oversight or weak enforcement.

So I just dey scroll for internet as usual to see the latest development for cryptocurrency matter for we continent and this Nigeria own catch my interest. Make una read am and see if u fit drop small knowledge for the question wey I ask because me just thinking I dey see say with cryptocurency you fit avoid plenty tax and even store your profits for stablecoin and you no go dey affected by the volatility of the market. Wetin you dey think, make wey govern begin dey tasks exchange or any centralized service providers so our tax money no go waste.

Ps: Abeg if person raise topic no go rush to dey raised another one, give small time (maybe 1-3 days) until no ongoing discussion for the topic so thread no go dey careless.

The first thing wey enter my mind as I read this topic be say - For we government to collect taxes on top cryptocurrencies them go need to first lift their "bank - crypto business transactions" wey dem put in place since last year. Another thing be say the principle of anonymity wey bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies dey built on go scatter if them really wan task individual (I doubt how possible e go dey) because na KYC wey dem go tell us to do. Lastly, I wan ask in addition to CryptopreneurBrainboss question -  supposing say dem dey serious about this tax thing, shey their E-naira go still follow for d taxation?

I no think say na to avoid tax make people deh run enter cryptocurrency. Na because of the jeje way weh the thing use deh go deh make am enter people eyes well well. Imagine the problem weh deh always deh for banks when person want to do transactions and come compare am with when you want to use crypto for transactions. E deh very easy with crypto and na direct to the person wallet e go enter without anybody worrying anybody for bank sort or swift codes. No restrictions to the amount weh person want to send. Crypto na bae.

Sincerely, I nor reason say many Nigerians dey follow crypto unto say dem fit use am dodge tax matter, na as i dey see this matter like this nai i reason say possibility dey but very slim. More persons use crypto for this way unto the freedom wey e dey provide, and unto say e still get ability to change person life comot from the kind poverty wey e be like our government wan put us. And unto the tax matter sef, if you check am, payment of tax for Nigeria nor too dey serious...Last year, report come out from the Oga of federal Inland Revenue Service ( Mr Muhammad Nami) say out of the 200million people wey dey naija,   na only 41milion dey pay tax ...the report go tell you say people nor get tax paying attitude for this way, na something wey people nor dey too reason, so e nor blend to cun dey reason say for country wey dem nor dey too mount pressure for tax matter, people cun dey follow up crypto majorly because dem nor wan pay tax.

Normally self no be that one make people fall enter into crypto, besides tax for 9ja na mainly company dey pay tax with oda industries but individual like me and you no get much tax to pay because na only bank fit dey tax onto say if we transact na from there dem take their own. Like dis we country no pure nd every bodi dey look for alternative wey dem go carry make money so dem believe say if dey go into digital way based on how Bitcoin carry blow pipo before so many carry am for mind say make dem try see weda something fit come out since government no wan make way for us, but if na tax I no sure say na dat one carry dem enter there.

But anyhow pipo never see food chop na wia dem wan see money to carry pay tax, de small money pipo go hustle out dem go wan make dem carry am pay tax who go gree dat kian tin for this we country.
Beside dem go say if dem pay tax na still government dem dey enrich instead de poor go still dey die for hunger while dem carry we money share for top.

My broda de mata too tire pesin oo.

Naija government own na to find way to take collect from the common person always be their concern. Bank dey charge tax, airtime vendors dey charge tax,  even this crypto wey we dey use see front, dey still wan find way to tax am. If them succeed in taxing crypto trade, why una feel say dem no go find way to influence the economic margin wey dey ground so?
Stablecoin as I find out, na one correct tool to use to ensure say all our coins no loss unto market fluctuations. However, e go better make government sponsor more of crypto campaigns if dem get am for mind to collect tax, also proper documentation go come apply which many people no want. Even as unemployment dey high for the country so, many personn no even ready to dash anybody shi shi, let alone tax. Na wa

Having gone through the whole thing I realized that the UN or whatsoever its called are not being sincere with their analysis.
Quote
The agency’s recommendation reads, “To improve taxpayer compliance rates and combat tax evasion, tax authorities should clearly define the legal status of cryptocurrencies and require crypto exchanges, e-wallet providers, and DeFi platforms to report gross inflows and outflows on all business and personal accounts.
How can someone evade tax with something regarded as an illegal especially in a country like ours. Something is there that they're not willing to disclose to us, it can not be tax evasion. I don't know from which angle they're trying to bring the argument but I can assure them tax evasion is not part of it all.
Quote
Financial institutions in Nigeria are currently banned from facilitating crypto transactions by the Central Bank of Nigeria. Despite this ban, Nigerians traded at least N497.35bn ($1.16bn) worth of Bitcoin between January 2021 to June 2022.
I no understand this part, shey na punch add this statement abi na the UN give the data? How them take know this amount despite the ban still dey effective? Abeg make we no dey deceive each other na.

Do you think Nigeria will adhere to this, also do you think businesses/individual are intentionally engaging in cryptocurrency to avoid tax?
I no really know if our Naija government so go follow this advice, though wetin i know be say even if them go do like that, the thing no go happen soon, maybe sometime later sha. Having said that, Nigerians no they run enter crypto because of tax, we know say with or without crypto many Nigerians tay tay don they evade tax in one way or another, so they really no need crypto to do that, maybe the thing go they easier for them to do with crypto, but tax evaders plenty for our nation for a long time now. I no go lie you, once Naija person start crypto, him eye they on how them go use the network make money, in the long run, other ideas fit enter, like to use am evade tax, but not at the beginning.

I really appreciate everyone of you who picked their phone bought card and called me to have empathy and sympathy. I always found belonging in this forum even than some relatives. Mostly Davidvictorson, Wiwo, Zlannta, CryptoHeadlineNews,Adbitco, My boss Smartvirus, CryptopreneurBrainboss etc, please if I did not mention your name that does not mean that your condolence message was not received but I can not compiled all the names which the message were sent and called, it is only this few ones that are familiar with me and some of the people who called were having no name so please. I received all the condolences. You really show love and respect. It was really weighed down throughout the weekend but your calls and text encouraged me and wake me up. Untimely dead will never come near your families. And also to those who are not here yet but have shown love from one way or the other here, may his glory shine in your families. Amen.

NEW TOPIC: UN urges Nigeria, others on crypto regulation Do you think Nigeria will adhere to this, also do you think businesses/individual are intentionally engaging in cryptocurrency to avoid tax?
E get any policy way we naija no dey open hand to...? So long as dem beliv say, dem ft get add thru pledged loyalty. D only policy way I sabi wella say we naija bin reject na wen our Jona no gree accept gay marriage way Obama propose dat yr.

Dis crypto regulation matta, I beliv say, we naija go open hand for ram bt d issue be say, we naija no strong rch to say dem go lik tak up regulation mata. We naija cef, na only civil servants dey pay direct tax as dem dey collect am frm dem salary mean while, d rest na indirect tax frm things way we dey buy. D Nepa bill way dem dey see 4 eye na em dem never fit collect talk more of tax on crypto way dem neva evn understand. E go wayh dem if not, na dis kind policy naija dey like.
