I think this is due to the fact that United have a lot of fans all over the world who bet without thinking about the real state of things, plus a lot of bettors are betting just by looking at the name of the team and not its real strength. Bookmakers are forced to take into account such a conjuncture and because of this we see such distorted odds. Recently, I have seen too many such events and perhaps a little later I will create a topic to track such matches and test my theory more accurately.

Can't resist from betting on Juventus win against Zenit when I see 2.45 odds.
Bookmakers have MU as obvious favortes, but I think they understimate Atalanta too much.
Also, I see big value in Sevilla win. Sevilla in good shape, while Lille don't look like Ligue 1 champions.

Benfica playing against Bayern could be a relief to Barcelona in my opinion. Bayern has been in insane form lately. They have recently defeated the 2nd team in the German league  - Leverkusen by a margin of 5 goals. So I'm hopeful that Bayern will be winning against Benfica which will give a chance to Barcelona to qualify for the next round. Also seems like Barca have found their long-lost form back. And Ole really needs to win the next match. I'm afraid if he doesn't, he might get sacked for good.

Is Atalanta a stronger team than Manchester United? I dont think so, I would prefer to say they are equal.
Manchester United is not that weak as well, if they are that weak then they would not be able to be on their current position in both UCL and PL.
Manchester has an advantage as a home team, Manchester has more experience in UCL than Atalanta.
These two fact can be the reasons out of other reasons why the odds shows that Manchester United is favorite to win.

I’m annoyed to see Koeman’s such weird match tactics from the previous season, at the same time I’m angry. He has been experimenting with the team for 2 years but has yet to see any success. The team is deteriorating day by day. Against Valencia, Barcelona played great and won. Depay, Coutinho and Ansu Fati scored. These three should have been added in the starting 11 today. Moreover Aguero is an experienced player. Experience is definitely worth it on a platform like the Champions League. He should have at least been given a place in the starting squad. Like you said so many shots but the goal scorer is Gerard Pique he is a defender   It's a bit funny because there are several main attackers there
Depay should be able to do something at least 5 goals is enough like Munich did last month
