Conducting a cricket match in India is highly not possible at the moment due to covid, that is why they moved their IPL to UAE so I don't think there will be any match/series for MSD retirement and also MSD doesn't want it that is why he announced his retirement silent unexpected way, via old movie song with all his cricket memories.
I still could not fully understand why the IPL is moved to UAE as the matches are taking place without any audience and it can be conducted in India without any audience as well if there is a support from the state government. What i assume is that they are playing in a neutral country so that no one is having any home advantage and if they conduct inside India the travel restrictions might be the issue.
If the BCCI can request the permission to conduct a series for MSD then i do not think that the government will not reject that offer and moreover the PM already sent a note to congratulate MSD and Raina and i think they will bend these restrictions for a match.

AFAIK, international airways are not fully operational yet on most of the countries and in India they didn't allow any foreigners that might be the reason why BCCI is not interested to take such huge risks to make the players to play on a country where number of cases are huge in numbers. And about the farewell series I think it is unnecessary to conduct at this time because lot of man power needed to conduct a single match so better no need to have one in my opinion.

Almost all the players are currently based in UAE for the IPL. So why can't the BCCI conduct the farewell match sometime in between the IPL tournament? It is just going to take one day. Since almost all the Indian and overseas players are already there, no additional transportation or other arrangements are needed. But Dhoni is going to miss the crowd.

I guess BCCI might be trying to avoid the chaos considering the present pandemic situation. Also they need to first take permission from the local authorities in order to conduct a match out of their regular schedule. It would be nice if they are able to do something to honor the legend.

I don't think that getting permission from the Emirates Cricket Board (ECB) is a big deal, considering their good relationship with the BCCI. I would say that this is the ideal opportunity to conduct such a match, since almost all the star players will be in UAE at this time. Scheduling a match at a later period may not be feasible due to the ongoing pandemic situation.

That is true BCCI and ECB due have a good rapo and the latter did invite BCCI to organize the IPL in their country but there is a risk due to the pandemic and situation needs to be assesd accordingly.

No one knew that MSD would retire just before the IPL, as scheduling for IPL was done quite sometime back and adding another day for a match can be hectic considering the present situation.

Even ICC posted tribute video for MSD but I don't see anything from BCCI so they are not much interested about anything other than the revenue from IPL.Even if there is no farewell match for him everyone know he is legendary player and comes from nowhere and still holds the record of winning captain of all the trophies from ICC and still no other captain got it.

Right now in current situation its not good to have any farewell matche even he is legendry and have many recoreds they can do this after sometime as well because now he is still available for IPL or if they want then they can do one match in this event as well like IPL champions vs International players.

BCCI is focussing more on the month-long IPL I guess, they might do something after the IPL. A farewell match would have been great to honor this legend. A lot of fans like me are expecting a farewell match from BCCI I hope they look into this matter and take a decision soon.

I agree with you that Mahendra Singh Dhoni has dedicated his entire life to his country and there should be a farewell match for him. He is a great cricketer.[Legend]
Because I can't watch much cricket news, I wanted to know, Mahendra Singh Dhoni is resigning from all formats?

He took retirement from the Whites way back in 2014. Recent announcement is for international limited over cricket (ODI/T-20) only, not franchise cricket (IPL) tho...

Not only Dhoni I think many people really deserved a farewell match but couldn't get one. For example Rahul Dravid being the greatest example. Yuvraj Singh? Suresh Raina? Gautam Gambhir? Despite of the fact that they weren't captains but you just cannot undermine their contributions they were kings of cricket in their times. I had this bizzare idea that BCCI can have a one match with the current indian team lead by kohli against this team lead by Dhoni

^I like that idea too, experienced cricketers vs fit and form players but its highly impossible to happen in reality. Yuvraj is one of the legend and took the Indian cricket to the next level in 2000's by his fielding and stroke makings and his contribution in 2011 world cup is something unimagineable, he played with cancer and also blood vomit in a match just because he wanted the team to win and hope/dream of billions from India...

Its good idea, i would say BCCI should make this type of initiative as some kind of tradition where once a year or may every 2 years all player playing one exhibition game and donate all earnings.

Not only Dhoni I think many people really deserved a farewell match but couldn't get one. For example Rahul Dravid being the greatest example. Yuvraj Singh? Suresh Raina? Gautam Gambhir? Despite of the fact that they weren't captains but you just cannot undermine their contributions they were kings of cricket in their times. I had this bizzare idea that BCCI can have a one match with the current indian team lead by kohli against this team lead by Dhoni
Virendra sehwag
Gautam Gambhir
Vvs Laxman
Rahul dravid
Yuvraj Singh
Suresh raina
Ms Dhoni
Harbhajan Singh
Irfan pathan
Ajit agarkar
Zaheer khan

The list has some of the players who had helped India in winning the different world cups and certainly 1 of the money raising events say only for pandemic or so after IPL can be done will be a good idea to see all this stars play and will be fun watching as well them in the field. But will it happen, or will BCCI take any interest in such events is the biggest question?

BCCI would take interest in anything which gives them money. This match could be a great money bagger so i don't think there should be any problem with this any one would love to see their heroes back on field.
Why impossible? Recently Sachin Tendulkar played a few charity games and so did other players. A game of similar fashion can be seen all these players are almost younger or of similar age of tendulkar. I understand that fitness would be one concern but still it's a friendly match after all.

Its good idea, i would say BCCI should make this type of initiative as some kind of tradition where once a year or may every 2 years all player playing one exhibition game and donate all earnings.

That would depend upon the success of the first match. If they find it is a success they will do anything to make it a tradition.

Idea is good, but at the same time I am not sure whether it is practical. Players such as Sehwag, Gambhir, Dravid and Agarkar have been out of competitive cricket for so long and therefore they may refuse this offer. Even if they participate, it may turn out to be a one sided match. A better idea may be to split the current Indian squad to two teams.

It is true that BCCI does not have the sentiments like the cricket fans and you need to understand that the president of BCCI were all politicians and they had no relation with cricket and now things have changed and Sourav Ganguly who transformed the team is leading the board and we will see major changes in that aspect. Apart from BCCI the rest of the cricket boards usually give a good farewell series for their top players and we only got that with Sachin Tendulkar.

Regarding playing with the current team against veterans will not be a fair match.

IMO focus shouldn't be on competitive game but having some fun and good time, doesn't matter who wins or lose as long as Players and Spectators enjoying the charity game. They should even add some female cricketers too  Grin

There are many options like they can spend one week for farewell because they can do this all with 4 teams mixes few femal and male players and 2 early matches then 1 final is going to be very interesting and profitable then they can give good money to some old players as well just like we have in past from CBFS in Sharjah.

I am OK with the female players as well. The only thing I want is an even split of the current players between two teams. Maybe we can have a Kohli XI and a Dhoni XI playing against each other. Lets assume the composition as follows - Out of the 11 players 6 will be current players, 4 would be former players and the remaining individual would be a female.

I don't have anything against players having some fun. But since this is a beneficiary match, the ticket prices may be quite high and those who pay for these tickets deserve to see some quality action out there. Let's have an ideal balance of both.

Tournament seems bit too much and overdo in context of such exhibition game. Spectators might get bored watching long mixed tournament, it happened with the recent retired player's tournament where they featured for "Road Safety" cause.
