~ As i mentioned above it is nothing but history. Hope this clears everything. A brief history of cricket by cricinfo. So all the debates about a gentleman's game will end here. It was a really great article, i used to always wonder why it is called a gentleman's game and mostly through the commentators we usually hear that phrase as if they are trying to stamp something especially during any altercation in the field . Fun fact: First international match was played between USA and Canada and now they are the minnows in the cricketing world . The people from Britain who settled in America and Canada might have played the first international game . His claims about all matches being fixed made me laugh. He must have lost his mind due to the current COVID pandemic inside Tihar jail and is blurting out all sorts of nonsense. There might be matches that are fixed but you cannot fix all the matches, spot fixing is possible like scoring slowly at certain fixed times and going for big runs at certain times, who knows anything is possible, since he is serving a jail sentence he might has seen and done that.

^^^ The best way to end this menace is to legalize sports gambling in India. I don't know why the government hasn't legalized it yet, when other countries such as the United Kingdom and Australia have done that. When you make something illegal, criminals get an added advantage to push it underground and rig the system, away from the eyes of the authorities. My advice - legalize and regulate.

Truthfully speaking, I think that the government is involved with all this shady stuff. Who doesn't know how corrupt 3rd world governments can be? The underworld mafia has been surviving for so long thanks to political connections. The government could have legalized gambling a long time back, but they didn't since it would be disadvantageous for them. No 3rd world political party is corruption free in my opinion.

The only reason its not legal in big scale because we are big hypocrite as a society and policy makers comes from the society. It become such a taboo in the society that no politician going to openly favors the legalization of gambling. Truthfully speaking, I think that the government is involved with all this shady stuff.
Few states do run their state lottery etc. i would be very happy if every state legalize the land-based gambling, it can generate loads of revenue as well.

India is a country where even porn is banned. And don't ask me if it had any positive impact on the society. The incidence of rape continues to rise and many of the foreign nations have issued warnings for female tourists who want to visit India. Alcohol availability is very restricted. Restaurants need to apply for excise permit, if they want to serve beer. This is a very cumbersome and costly process. And once again, this hasn't stopped in India being ranked as one of the top alcohol consumers.

Feels sad when i think this is a same country which gave The Kama Sutra to the world and now doing chutiyapa.

Thanks for the KamaSutra but it seems the people are frustrated as they have the second largest population and yet they are trying to hump on other people without their permission . I did not understand what is the meaning of chutiyapa, did you mean fucking as google did not find me the results. I hope gambling and weed be legal globally , there are some states that legalized gambling and weed but some have a complete ban and we need to have a simple law throughout the country. There are shit rule too, while gambling is legal online gambling is not.

There are shit rule too, while gambling is legal online gambling is not. The world has become much smaller, with the invention of the internet and due to low cost air travel. It is not possible to impose these stupid bans in a particular territory. Because the gamblers may simply travel to some jurisdiction where gambling is legal (Macau, Las Vegas.etc), or they may simply do their gambling using one of the online casinos. In the end the government will lose tax revenues.

Chutiyapa - Act of stupidity and fucking up every thing even the simple tasks. Gambling is in grey area as far as India is concern, hope supreme court jumps in and do something about it.

This is exactly the point, the government will not achieve anything banning all these things when the world gets smaller with the advent of technology. Take a look at Macau and it is under the Chinese government, they restrict the entire country but they have a place where anything goes including gambling and it can be said about Dubai and other similar places. I am not sure about Dubai having a gambling paradise but you get anything in Dubai from what i heard.

If you are talking about organized crime then it is prevalent everywhere and not just in the third world countries. In US majority of the casino business were run my the mafia and that is the case around the world and they might have political connections and funding them to reach the office so that their business are protected and that might be the reason why gambling is not legalized in every state. ~ This is exactly the point, the government will not achieve anything banning all these things when the world gets smaller with the advent of technology. The government might be getting money from the casino moguls and hence they are restricting certain areas while legalizing and regulating others.

So the Chinese gamblers travel to Macau and gamble there. This prevents valuable tax revenue from getting lost to other countries. On top of that, additional jobs will be created. But doing something like this is impossible in India. Here there is so much bad blood between the political parties and the opposition will burn down half the country, if any such measure is proposed.

I am not in India and have no enough information but very small information Goa is place where casino's allowed so if yes then they can do all model like Macau and this can change some good fortune for many sports bodies and players as they will invest and bring some good and healthy competition because many countries are taking advantage of this and have very good amount of money.

^^ Sad to see only one cricketer made into this list. IMHO It shows that where cricket stands in comparison of other sports and clearly begging for more exposure in other parts of the world too, not just Subcontinent.

This has been the case almost always and will probably stay this way in the future. Very few Cricketers tend to end up in these lists since their payments are usually in currencies like INR etc which pale in comparison to USD, Pounds etc. First world currencies will always Trump 3rd world currencies any day. Sports starts in 1st world countries can live comfortably in 3rd world countries with probably an year worth of earnings.

Would have loved to see many other crickets in those lists but sadly that is not the case and Kohli ranks is 66th in that list. Though he has jumped 30 places from the 2019 so better for him. But yes, also it means many other countries players are not getting that much endorsement payment as gets in India or the number of global companies wants to just sign up with the top of the rankings only.

I don't see cricket often but was attracted to see how KamaSutra was linked to cricket and this made me force to reply in this thread. Does lockdown has so bad impact on you people that you are shifting from cricket to KamaSutra because of no cricket matches in these days

United States happens to be the no.1 market for sports, and the natives there are simply not interested in cricket. They have their own sport (baseball) which is very similar to cricket, and therefore it is not very surprising. The ICC has poured in a lot of money in to that market, hoping that cricket will take off. But that strategy failed, because they were concentrating only on the expats (Asian and West Indian).
