Lille go third in Ligue 1 after derby win over Lens

Edon Zhegrova scored in each half for Lille as they beat derby rivals Lens 2-1 to move up to third place in the French league.

The Kosovan winger got the opening goal after nine minutes when he superbly controlled a long ball from Nabil Bentaleb and fired a low shot into the corner from 15 metres out.

His second came on the hour mark. Gabriel Gudmundsson's strike was parried by goalkeeper Brice Samba and Zhegrova had the simplest of tasks converting the rebound.

Elye Wahi got a goal back for Lens with 13 minutes remaining.

Now Lille is in the top four and can also be a serious threat to Monaco and Brest because the points gap between these three teams is quite close now. But I am also still wary of other teams like Nice who can still fight to get their best position this season because in Ligue 1 there are only three positions that can directly qualify for the UCL without having to take part in qualifications, such as the team that finished the season in fourth place. And I think the battle for that position will still be fierce until the end of the season in Ligue 1.

That was an easy win for Monaco to achieve when they visited Metz's headquarters. I'm quite contented with betting on both teams to score for the Lyon - Reims game.    Because I think it was riskier to bet on a side in this game between really close teams. If I made such bet my choice would be Lyon and I would lose obviously. Monaco's win wasn't a surprise but the way they got the win was really impressive. This win carried them to the second position too. 

Balogun was really solid with two goals maybe but I don't like his general performance this season. He has scored a really low amount of goals unlike the previous season. He is still only 22 years old though. Not every striker is that consistent at young ages. He has a good talent and I hope he doesn't waste it.

At the moment the competition for the championship in Ligue 1 is no longer interesting for us to follow, and let alone me or maybe we all feel the same way if it is impossible we will see another team win in Ligue 1 this season besides PSG, so far PSG have run far enough to leave second place with a distance of 10 points,  So it is certain that it is very difficult for Monaco to catch up.

I personally see if the competition in the current champions league zone is more interesting, because as you said it is difficult for us to ensure positions 2, 3 and 4 when the five teams still have a chance and also a small difference in points to fight for the remaining 3 Champions League tickets at this time, I personally see if Monaco, Brest and Lille do have the same chance to be in second place at the end of the season,  Because if we look at the rest of their games, all three still have matches that meet each other so they have the potential to beat each other, but of the three teams so far I actually see Brest has relatively easy opponents in the remaining games of the season besides they have to face Monaco in week 30, so I think Brest will probably take second place again at the end of the season.

Monaco is more likely to be in second place but Lille could get points faster to put strong pressure on Monaco.
Brest is currently having its heyday in second place but I doubt this club because Monaco and Lille are more experienced clubs because with experience like this Monaco and Lille will easily shift Brest position when the time is right and I believe Monaco can catch up soon points difference from Brest.

Of the remaining matches, there are several matches that are a bit tough for Lille, Brest and Monaco to go through and it all depends on how consistent these 3 clubs are to maintain their position.
Looking at the upcoming match schedule, it looks like Lille and Monaco will have a slightly difficult opponent when Lille has to face Marseille and Monaco has to face Rennes but Brest will have a slightly easier opponent only against Metz.

Previously I predicted that the match between Lyon and Reims would not produce many goals, that's why I gave the under option with 2.75 @1.91. and yes, the match ended with the score 1-1. I had previously suspected that this match would be tough. Moreover, these two teams are one place apart. even though Reims has not been very consistent in some of their matches, it will not be easy for Lyon to overthrow them.
On the contrary, even though Lyon is starting to experience an increase in performance. but it is not an easy matter to overthrow the opposing team, especially in the first meeting Reims was able to overthrow Lyon. that's why, I think this match will not produce goals. especially, I'm not sure Lyon will win this match. especially for the away team, their performance is also not stable enough.

Even though they will play as hosts, the opponents they will face are the toughest teams in Ligue 1, and they will not be long away from locking in the title, so it is clear that this is a very difficult match for Marseille. But even so, they shouldn't just give up on the team they will face.
