Arsenal is a very good example of the club that is run as a business without regards to their supporters. While most of the teams are in the red with the money Arsenal has always been very profitable for the owners. While that is hard for the supporters which are used to the old glory days I don't think club management intends to change their policy anytime soon. And while situation remains the same they will not fight for the title for sure and will be very happy with European qualification. Champions League could also be out of the reach this season since as you say most of the big clubs have much better rosters than Arsenal.
While this is true, this isn't likely to be sustainable for the long term. For example, recent years they've seen a notable decline in league positions, and the types of players that they are signing. I for one don't consider Ben White to be the caliber that a big club like Arsenal should be signing, and that's especially true when I believe they've overpaid for him at 50 million pounds.

Arsenal need a breath of fresh air, because honestly I don't see them finishing above 8th this year. The decline from the Wenger days is crazy, they were known for their consistency, and good signings. Okay, they didn't sign a lot of players, but when they did they were usually good business. These days it doesn't seem like they are making any of the right moves for the longevity of the club.
Usual Arsenal policy was to sign relatively young players, use them well, let them develop and then sell them off for top dollars. That type of transfer is not easy to accomplish successfully over the run of many years. Still, Arsenal has some top young talents in their squad, I can see Saka and Smith-Rowe as top players in couple of years. I agree with what you wrote and Arsenal should definitely be top 5 team by their pedigree and they don't have a chance to accomplish that with current squad. Champions League spot should be a must for them.

Ben White is decent player, but his price is what it is because he is English and plays in Premier League. John Stones was also not worth 70+M or whatever when City signed him. That kind of players from other leagues could be obtained for under 5M. But that is situation with young English players for last couple of years.

I think we have to watch a few more games before judging where Arsenal can be placed in the standings table.I think they are a good team overall and most probably they took it a bit easy against Brentford and that is what ruined their first game. When playing at home I think we will see another Arsenal.

Arsenal's team is deteriorating day by day. We didn't see good gameplay from them even in the previous season. The hope was that this season they would be able to organize themselves well and we will see a stable performance from them. But that did not happen. Arsenal has started the season in a very bad way. They have lost to a new team like Brentford.

Im not a fans of Arsenal but you sounds really pessimistic though. Arsenal had a bad start on the first match of the season but it doesnt mean they are done. Arteta is currently risking his job on the line because alot of fans are currently unhappy with the team's result so there will be alot of changes for the next fixtures against Chelsea

It will be great though if Arsenal win against Chelsea in the next one but realistically speaking, it would be hard for Arsenal

They have lost to a new team like Brentford.

In a away game against Brentford that made it to the Premier League. It wasnt because that Arsenal was bad in that game but Arsenal lose because Brentford was better in that game

There are two days left for the second week of the season. The new week will start with the Liverpool - Burnley game. Liverpool started the season with a huge victory against Norwich in an away game. I was happy to see that Virgil van Dijk bounced back and started to play. Now, their opponent are Burnley and I'm expecting Liverpool to simply destroy them also.
I don't think Liverpool will have hard moments against Burnley considering the performance of each team and especially the first round results.
For Saturday's games I want to see if Brentford will continue its surprising start and if Leeds will recover from its huge defeat when facing Everton.

Crystal Palace are not a very hard opponent for Brentford actually. But they have been in the Premier League in the end. Chelsea managed to beat them quite easily though. But Brentford should be very careful. They shouldn't overcome by languor after a huge 2-0 win against Arsenal. And Leeds have another tough game against Everton this time. But they may get a win this time.

We shouldn't judge Arsenal performance based on their first match against Brentford, though the lost the match, having missed some of their key players, however some analyst or soccer pundits must have zeroed Arsenal chances of beating Chelsea on Sunday, but Arsenal always give Chelsea tough challenge, they once played a draw with Chelsea despite losing one Man  (David Luis was red carded).
I am an Arsenal fan though the team might had been passing through a difficult or tough time I still believe that the team will get their act together and become formidable team in EPL.

What is clear for now Harry Kane must be feeling frustrated. When he wanted to move (because his team didn't get the title) but Tottenham seemed to complicate the process. Although Man City has not withdrawn their offer, I think Man City will give up and will definitely withdraw their offer if the bidding process still does not run smoothly.
It seemed like he was being forced to stay there. I'm not sure he will play like last year. His heart is no longer with Tottenham. He wanted to leave, he wanted to win and it was fitting that Tottenham let him go. Complicated matters, I think he could go crazy there because of this matter.

Chelsea's new No.9 Lukaku will face challenges in ELP. In the end, he is a good striker, but what really matters is to help the team reach greater heights. Focus on team records instead of individual ones, which matter most. The next match will be great to see how we can battle with the big boys.
What problems should he face? He feels at home, including the P'League in general ... and he probably got number 9 because he played with that number in the Euros (and played pretty well). In addition, it is unlikely that he would have ended up in Chelsea if he was just an egoist star player ... he was contracted to help the club realize its potential this season and partly pay off its colossal debts, (although the latter is not that significant, as Chelsea owes only Abramovich).

Wenger is indeed a leader who is respected by his players, because he has charisma and is very good at developing young players. Therefore many young players when Wenger became Arsenal coach could compete with senior players, while Arsenal's players now seem to have no motivation to win.
I think Arsenal management chose Arteta as coach is wrong, I really hope Arsenal can lose 5 games in a row in the Premier League, so that Arteta can be sacked immediately and replaced by a more experienced coach.
Arsenal  was dealing with some sort of "Ajax of premier league" type of deal, they got younger players, played them in the premier league for 20-30+ games a season, and that usually got those players more valuable, even if you got a player for like 5 million, you will be able to play him 2-3 season for 20-30 games and sell him for 20-30 million, do this with maybe 10 guys every season and you got yourself an amazing income. Obviously the point of football is not just making profit, in fact for many many big clubs it is about not even profiting because they are making a big loss most of the time. So, why was that good?

Well, I rather profit and not win compared to both not profiting AND not winning, which is why the current Arsenal is not doing good at all. So what could Arsenal do? They could simply just work to make some more success by just grinding to get more money at the same time by working the wenger method, they know about it.

This is a great marketing model and Arsenal's shareholders are undoubtedly happy, but this kind of business cannot last long. I mean, if a team does not win anything for a long time, interest in it decreases even from the fans, not to mention ordinary football lovers, and this is reflected in income. Plus, one must take into account that by not participating in such competitions as the Champions League, Arsenal loses a lot of money.
of course the more often trophyless .. the more fans fed up and the more income get dropped due lack of interest from the fans.. lots of sectors could get affected and in the long term it would cost much in value more than a short profit from not making any huge transfer for the better season and gaining popularity.
arsenal just unlucky to have such president lol.

in the prem , chelsea leading the nett profit during last few years though.
they spent a lot but receive a huge positive feedback at the end of the day from those mega transfer. healthy business.

In this case, it would be good to maintain a balance (although I do not know how to achieve it in the face of such fierce competition), for example, Barcelona, which has stars in its roster and wins many trophies, now has a debt of about a billion dollars. From a business standpoint, this is a disaster. I think that's why the big clubs are trying to fix this by organizing the Super League.

But Manchester City couldn't start very well. Tottenham managed to beat City here again, 1-0. They are like City's nightmare.  Grin
Another nightmare for City and Son has a great goal for Spurs. He will replace Kane to be the biggest hope for Spurs in this season. Kane did not play that match and I believe in will join City in a next couple of days. From 125M to 150M, it is not big difference and I think City will get him.

Yeah, Son saved the match for Tottenham. And his importance for the team is growing every year I think. He is not a very young player now (29). But he is a very important part of Tottenham right now. And if City manage to sign Harry Kane, Son will be their number one player I guess. But it depends on a possible transfer of course. Because I've heard that Tottenham are planning to sign a striker if Kane leaves.

Ben White is decent player, but his price is what it is because he is English and plays in Premier League. John Stones was also not worth 70+M or whatever when City signed him. That kind of players from other leagues could be obtained for under 5M. But that is situation with young English players for last couple of years.
They've also brought in big players over the years, for example; Ozil. Okay, it didn't work out for Arsenal or Ozil, but I think anyone can admit that he's a fantastic talent, and I'm not quite sure why it all went wrong for him at Arsenal. I felt his first few seasons he actually did well, and complimented their attack.

Saka is fantastic, and martinelli. Both of those have bright futures if they are nurtured correctly by the club, and I think Arsenal is the perfect team for them, since they aren't going to be competing against world class players, but still have decent enough exposure to different competitions every so often like the Europa League.

I still don't agree on Ben White, even if you include the English tax. I think John Stones is double the player Ben White is. Ben White isn't a top 6 player, and that's the ambition a team like Arsenal should be aiming for. However, Arsenal are slowly becoming a top half club.

Forgot about Martinelli, he is also top talent. As you say, Arsenal should be a good place for those top talents to become world class players.

I was never fan of Ozil game. I admit he has soft touch and very good last pass but he just looks so uninterested on the pitch. I see him like a player who would be top 20 years ago, but nowadays everyone is so fit and players like Ozil are becoming extinct in top leagues. Should have been born earlier Smiley I believe there was not many Arsenal supporters sad to see him go, he was top 10 in the world per wages and nowhere near top 10 on the pitch in his last 2 Arsenal years. Could be wrong though, not like I am living in London.

I was not talking about English tax, I was talking about generally very high prices for young English guys. If they were born in some other country, let's say Denmark, price would be 1/3 for the player of same quality. Stones was great last season but was he that good when City paid 70M for him to Everton? I remember bitching about how he was overpriced at that time.

Absolutely, Ozil was exquisite, right from his time in Madrid to his first few years at Arsenal, I feel Mesut Ozil had quite a lot of issues off the field that affected his game, he was really expected to set a standard at Arsenal, but I guess things didn't turn out as planned. Arsenal have also signed big players like Aubameyang, Lacazzete and they even signed Pepe for a really high amount, even though I wouldn't really call him a big player, but notwithstanding, in my opinion Arsenal really needs an overhaul of their team, their current set of players cannot compete for titles and that's pretty bad for their fans.

Southampton - Manchester United should be one of the delightful matches of the week I think. Manchester United crushed Leeds and moved on. Southampton were defeated by Everton. Despite being an away match, I expect Manchester United to beat their opponent. But maybe it can be a little hard for them as they hardly beat Southampton here 3-2 in the last season. They made a comeback from 2-0 back then.

All the same, Arsenal does not fit and did not fit into this classic scheme of a supplier of talent for others. At the best of times, during the time of Arsene Wenger, a scheme was more likely to work, when the club tried to achieve maximum results with the help of not the maximum costs with varying success. When young players were bought with the expectation of a promising game at the club in the future, rather than for a future sale. And yes, Arsenal did not work on the verge of loss like other super clubs like Barcelona or Manchester City, but quite tried to exist within their means. This does not always bring results, but this situation is quite acceptable to the owner of the Arsenal.

This weekend, we are going to watch a superb game between Arsenal and Chelsea in Emirates Stadium.

Arsenal have started really badly. Brentford destroyed them 2-0 home. Arsenal had big problems in the absence of Lacazette and Aubameyang. They are still injured and their return dates are unknown for now. Without having their best attacking players, they will surely struggle against Tuchel's Chelsea.

Chelsea destroyed C. Palace 3-0 without even Lukaku. And it is said that Lukaku is going to be able to play against Arsenal. This changes everything for this match.

I think that Chelsea will not have too much problem on defeating Arsenal here. Arsenal still seem to be a problematic team.
Arsenal often shocks the favorites with their recent form..

thats why a team like arsenal is the most liked club by bookies lol, i wish my team to win big like 7-0 or so but lets be realistic, arsenal is a huge club...  and 7-1 i think its fair Grin.
big odds for sure on arsenal, in betting i might prefer a shocking result though.
Do you hope Arsenal to suffer a big defeat like when they faced Manchester United in 2008 with a score of 2-8?
I think you believe too confident for now Grin, as an arsenal fan, I realize that my favorite team is not seeded in that match and the chances of winning against Chelsea are certainly very small, but for a landslide defeat (7-1) of course I don't expect that happens, maybe we will see a final score of 1-2 for chelsea's victory, or it could be arsenal who won with a score of 2-1

Oh well my apologize, thought theres no arsenal fans around here Grin *cough in two champions league trophies.
Chelsea's record win was a 6–0 against arsenal,  i just got a strong feeling that something unusual could really happened like a goal galore or a heated match.

i still confident with at least two goals asa winning margin,  i wont bet a single penny on this match tho.

It's clear Arsenal need new players, but financial problems continue to haunt the club.
Indeed. Arsenal squad seems not competitive, but they have no choice now. It is a wise decision to prioritize the financial problem first, just survive at the current players this season. When they already fix the financial problem and have enough money to sign new players, they must focus on improving their defense and midfield line. These lines have no big players, I am not sure they can win any trophy with the current players at that position.

Arsenal vs Chelsea must be the most expected game of the week in my opinion.

Chelsea seem to be closer to getting a win here. Because Arsenal have big problems on their attacking line. As Lacazette and Aubameyang are still injured, Balogun is playing as CF. And he is not that good player I'm afraid. And their defense line is also bad now. They made many simple mistakes against Brentford. And I expect these mistakes to continue here also. Tuchel's Chelsea shouldn't have too much problem to defeat Arsenal while they are vulnerable.

I agree with you Chelsea seem more ready with the players they have, playing away against Arsenal is not difficult this time they have a lot of advantages
My prediction is Chelsea can win by more than 2 goals I know some Chelsea strikers are hungry for goals, moreover Lukaku will play his first match.

It's fair to give Chelsea the role of the favorite in this match. They are in very good form, solid defensively, and Lukaku's addition seems to be like the missing piece to complete the "perfect" team puzzle. Still is too early for any team and we shouldn't exclude Arsenal. Of course, Arsenal needs more than luck to become competitive and be among the contenders. I just hope to see their mistakes before it's too late for them.
