It's really no surprise that Scotland managed to beat Spain. Last week Spain won against Norway by playing an aggressive and attacking style of football. However, against Scotland, they seemed to have lost their way with their possession-based approach, which ultimately proved to be unproductive in terms of winning the match. Moreover, Spanish coach appeared to be a bit too confident, so deserve to lose. Can't imagine he did make 8 changes to the team and expecting positive results. Though they had several chances, they failed to take advantage. Also, the current Spanish team is quite young, so it will take some time for them to fully adapt.

As for Spain... I don't know what to say. I didn't watch the game because it was at the sam time as Croatia - Turkey but I'm sure that Scotland really shocked them. Like Polkeins said, Span didn't lose a qualification game in nine years!

Oh yeah, it's definitely impressive to see Scotland leading their group with such a strong start. I guess it just goes to show that anything can happen in football and no team should be underestimated. It will be interesting to see how the rest of the qualification games play out and if Scotland can maintain their momentum.

Last night's game showed a lot of weaknesses in the Croatian team, especially in the first 15-20 minutes when Livakovic saved everything he could. In my opinion, definitely the player of the match, regardless of Kovacic's two goals.

That's spot on. It was really Livakovic who prevented Turkey from taking an early lead, both in the fifth minute and a few minutes later. Additionally, he saved us from conceding the equalizer after Kovacic's opening goal. Had any of those goals gone in, the game could have taken a completely different turn, with a different outcome. Credit to Livakovic, Kovacic and Stanisic for their performances, although the rest of the team seemed to fall short of their usual level. It seems like Dalic has a lot of work to do in order to prepare for the League of Nations Final Four.

Other than those three players there is no one else to mention his performance. I don't know what was wrong with Brozović last night, but he was awful. I wouldn't even say that he played bad. He was a catastrophe. All Croatian players in defense made a lot of rookie mistakes and I'm counting Modrić here as well. Like I said, the end result doesn't show how bad Croatia played last night.

Even though the maestro, Luca Modric, was left behind, this did not make Croatia weak. Now that there is a suitable replacement for Kovacic, he is one of the most successful players in Europe.

Under the control of Dalic, Croatia became a European dark horse which was classified as successful in the World Cup and European Cups. Dalic is quite confident with his current squad. He once said when Croatia failed in the semifinals against Argentina, that the current generation of Croats is not over. With that belief, I think Croatia will be able to qualify for the finals and will be a serious threat at the upcoming Euro 2024.

I'm not sure what you mean by Modrić being left behind. He played last night but was equally bad as most of the Croatia team. He made some pretty bad passes that put Turkey in some good goal opportunities.

To me Crotia is better, not an easy match, but it's the 3rd place of World Cup, with same players, and motivated yet to play the Euro 2024 (like Modric said)
And Spain is way better than Scotland, it's a victory for me, Scotland will try to play on defense, but the spanish team is hard to play against, they almost always dominate the ball possession.

Sometimes that type of games happens, and even though it is rare individually, it is common as a concept. I mean like Czech team doesn't get 1.18 that commonly, and if they ever do, they win that game and it is very very rare for them to lose that type of game. So when you look at that individually, what happened was a rare thing.

But, if you look at "a team that has 1.20 odds to win, ended up losing" deal then it becomes a bit more common and that is why I believe that in general as a concept it's not rare at all. Last year I had a parlay, a ticket that had 8 games, and 7 of those were under 1.40 odds, and you would expect the single game with high odds to make me lose right? SIX!! of the teams with 1.40 chance ended up losing, it happens.

Trust me, I know all about that, even keep a thread that's almost exclusively on upsets worse than that. So I was surprised, but not shocked. Nothing shocks me anymore when it comes to football -- Saudi vs Argentina in the World Cup was probably the one that last came very close to making me "shocked".

I think Croatia had a trouble on the first game because they were fresh out of the clubs and into the nations again, but when they got back into their system again, they became better. Seeing how they play, even when pressured all game, just lay back and get the opponent attacking you, pass to each other on your own half for minutes on end, and then try to have one or two passes right into a position is the way they do.

It's not really like counter attacking, it's basically keeping the ball as long as you have to until you find an open space to pass into, and if you wait long enough, it will show itself. Modric is nearly a defender when he plays for national team, he is that far back taking the ball and looking for chances.

Lol, if this round continues until the end, then how will their matches continue in their respective leagues? Yeah, waiting that long after getting used to these games is annoying. In the other hand, this long break period give the opportunity for some clubs to recover and play better next time. The bookies obviously knew what was gonna happen thats why they gave such a big odd and probobly earned the most money on that match. If the Turkish national team coach changes, things will change in the group. In the second match, Türkiye takes the field stronger. But if Kuntz stays, Türkiye's job will be difficult, even impossible. There are names that are spoken about change. It was the best time to play Spain. They are in transition and missing their key players. They are not the force of old. In fact, there was nothing forceful about them at all here. I just hope the new coach does something about it in quick time because teams are lining up t face them.

Yes, it'll take some time until Spain gets accustomed to their new squad. In my opinion, Spain has a lot of potential especially from young players like Gavi, Rodri or Pedri but playing as a team is very important, where Spain needs to improve. Scotland played much better as a team despite lacking individual class. But playing as a team is very important and that's why Scotland won.

But apart from England, the performance of all these teams went down when compared to the 1990s. Scotland used to be a regular at the FIFA World Cups. But nowadays they never qualify for the main tournament. But there seems to be a sudden resurgence. Scotland and Wales both managed upset wins against their opponents this time. Everyone is going ballistic about Scotland's win over Spain, while Wales' draw against Croatia almost went unnoticed.
