Bitcoin has always been a global currency, and that internationalism is one of its best aspects.
Unfortunately, that doesn't mean that it'll actually be accepted everywhere, just that it has the potential to be accepted everywhere. Hopefully, it'll become more popular as people see these sorts of benefits.

I think bitcoin is not yet a global currency because it is not used like dollar. If bitcoin is started to use like dollar for all of the transactions of the world whether governmental or non governmental and for international use then we can say that now bitcoin is a global currency.

Yeah bitcoin is gaining popularity at a moment but its not as popular as dollar and even the market cap of bitcoin is too low in compare to dollar and it will take long time for bitcoin to reach everywhere and get accepted like fiat currency.

I think yes, because as of now a bitcoin is a popular in the whole country, especially when if it will recognize. Because a bitcoin is might be an investment of other people. For example last year history of bitcoin is only small value but now it is rising or become a great value. Maybe someday it currency is known in all over the countries. And all investors may use this as a bitcoin currency.

Obviously, apart from the US dollar itself, there are no more currencies used as widely and wildly. On the other hand, the US dollar is not used everywhere either, and if we consider only the territory across which a currency is accepted (as a metric for determining its global character), then only the US and Bitcoin together would cut it as truly global currencies. Even Euro is rather limited to circulation between the countries of the Eurozone itself, or the countries which avoid the US dollar for various reasons (such as Iran, for example)

Well when you say currency i think bitcoin doesn't yet fit the bill exactly. Bitcoin can be a lot of things. It can be an investment, can be used to make monetary transactions like online payment, transfers and purchases but for me its not yet at the level to be compared to fiat. Not yet but very well on its way there

- No, i don't think so because Bitcoin is only common in some countries around the world, it has not been accepted by the governments of other countries. I do not deny the value of bitcoin growing rapidly but that does not mean it can become a global currency, if want bitcoin to become a global currency, it needs to satisfy a lot of conditions. The most important thing is that it needs government accepted and banks must manage it, but now I do not see any bank can manage bitcoin. Bitcoin still has many inconveniences

It's way better in terms of all other attributes than fiat currencies.

Well bitcoin is popular to some countries, but not all have accepted bitcoin in terms of its legality. Bitcoin is still a commodity, so bitcoin is far from being a global currency yet. I say not yet because its far from being adopted globally. Although it has reached as far as Africa in terms of its used, they are still some like India who don't like it. So for now, not yet, but in the near future it will become a global currency.

Bitcoin is global since there are people in countries all over the world that use it or at least buy and save it. Even so, there may not be a very large percentage of people in many of these countries that have bitcoins or even know how to get bitcoins.

Today, I read that Russia plans to legalise bitcoin by 2018. Yeah, I also just read about that The Russian Ministry of Finance (the one which became notoriously famous in the past for threatening Russian Bitcoin users with severe criminal prosecution and imprisonment) is now going to treat Bitcoin as a "financial product". But I wouldn't be too enthusiastic or euphoric about that since their aims remain as nefarious as they have always been. Basically, they are going to trace "both ends of a Bitcoin transaction" to allegedly fight with illegal transactions. They substantiate the necessity of implementing this supervision by claiming that "the state should know who is behind the transaction". I guess this is none of their business since Bitcoin has nothing to do with the state (and Ministry of Finance specifically) in the first place

There are big markets for bitcoins happening right now in countries you probably wouldn't think too much about, Africa and Iran are just 2 countries I think of that have huge growing markets that not many people notice.
