Qualifying groups for TotalEnergies CAF AFCON Morocco 2025 revealed

The qualifiers will start in September 2024 and end in November 2024.

The TotalEnergies CAF Africa Cup of Nations is the biggest sporting event in Africa and the next championship will be held from 21 December 2025 to 18 January 2026.

my country is in Group I and I must confess that it is a group in which my country has a chance of qualifying, but we will need to play focused and try hard to win in 3 games because it is very important to secure a lot of points early, we cannot underestimate the other opponents, and if we manage to qualify, we need to prepare very well so as not to embarrass ourselves in the Africa Cup of Nations games, as happened in the last event where we did not achieve at least one victory, historically my country has never achieved a victory in the games of the Africa Cup of Nations, this is very shameful and humiliating for the people of my country. I hope that if we have the opportunity to participate in the next Africa Cup of Nations, things will be different for us, at least we will come away with victories

Which teams do you think will qualify for the next Africa Cup of Nations?

In my opinion it will be like this:

groupA: Tunisia and as for the remaining 3 teams, any of them can qualify, the remaining 3 teams are terrible

Group B: Morocco and Gabon

Group C: Egypt and Cape Verde

Group D:
Nigeria and Benin

Group E: Algeria and Equatorial Guinea

Group F: Ghana and Angola

Group G: Cote d'Ivoire Zambia, in this group Zambia was lucky because it only has Cote d'Ivoire which is strong, the other teams are very weak

Group H: DR Congo and Guinea

Group I: Mali and Mozambique. In this group I see my country Mozambique having a good chance of moving on to another stage, despite Guinea Bissau being a team with considerable quality, I see them at the same level as my country and in my opinion my country has the capacity to beat Mali, Guinea Bissau and Eswatini

Group J: Cameroon and Namibia

Group K: South Africa and the other 3 teams are difficult to predict, I consider the other 3 teams to be weak and that anyone can qualify

Group L: Senegal and Burkina Faso

Are you sure your choice in this group is not just clouded by emotions?

Guinea-Bissau has not been very good recently, but they still have a good shot at this.

African football is not always predictable, though, so I am open to all forms of surprises because even Nigeria, my country may not qualify even though we have the team for it and almost won the last competition.

I second that, just as we are struggling in the world cup qualifiers and we do not know our fate yet, if we would qualify for the 2026 world cup. African football is quite unpredictable like you say, but i think it is very disappointing that out country Nigeria would be struggling in qualifiers, that is very poor and i hope we would sort out out problems (including that of a new manager) before the AFCON qualifiers begins and before the WC qualifiers resumes.

the same Benin republic that Nigeria underated and couldn't win in the world cup qualifyer have been brought back again in our group and we're still underrating them while we're yet to fix our teams in order and sort out a good coach that will lead us into the tournament. From what played out in the last AFCON and what's even playing out in this world cup qualifier, we certainly have a lot work to do in anticipation of all our upcoming matches.

After watching the euros and Copa America and seeing how intensive and competitive their games are, it just goes to show that we have a lot work to do in AFCON in making it seriously competitive. Nigeria with all the super star players tend to have similar fate with England and are almost struggling to win most of her .matches even when they possess the strongest and most Informed players in the continent.

Recently, another fake news also emerged in the media that the NFF is set take a disciplinary measure against Victor Osimhen of which the NFF has publicly debunked the news. The national team of Nigeria is currently experiencing issues that wouldn't have been their in the first place if every party involved had tried to verify the news they heard in the media. I have taken some time to read about public opinion on Osimhen's auto burst. And most of the public, have taken a subjective view about this. The younger generation are in support of Osimhen's how to burst while the older generation are on the side of the coach. They have called for a ban and the younger generation has said, "to hell with the ban" that Osimhen's career isn't dependent on playing for the country. I am concerned that if this issue isn't sorted out diplomatically, it will be a terrible example to younger players who will feel that they can have these types of outburst in the national team and go scot free.

Imagine you were the leadership of the NFF how would you salvage this situation?

In my mind, I feel like you cannot disrespect me and teach me how to react after you disrespect me. I have seen unnecessary comparisons between these two, coach and player which has literally almost nothing to do with what has happened. When you look at how the older generation support Finidi George, all day do I laugh.
Only if he knows that he has not just betrayed Victor Oshime but also lost respect forever from Victor Oshime after he was being informed about his situation.

People say the video will affect his club career and stuff because the name Victor Oshime is more than a brand and he is a public figure with lots of million followers.
This is a player that does things with his heart for the club and country, I don't like how they have treated him all around this season he deserves better than all these crap.
I love the position you take about this and I am not surprised with the whole episode. But note, as it is everywhere, there will always be a mixed reaction in a situation like this, so don't be surprised. Victor Osimhen is human and his reputation could be affected by the insensitive utterance of Finidi George and I must have reacted similarly to what he did if I was in his shoes. The guy was hurt and felt betrayed, he actually suffered another "Nigeria circumstance" where you will never know or hear the truth coming from the people from the corridor of power. All they know is lies and politics so that they can continue to cover up for their faults. You will never see them take responsibility but blame others.

Some people when felt cheated can talk and even overreact, that's their weakness so I understand the position of Victor, and instead of the well-meaning Nigerians to die the issue down, they started heating it up the more, to what gain? Some would say it will affect his career, how? Certainly not the Nigeria's incidents! But fine, Victor should be more careful and mature about some public reactions and utterances as he has been known for too many ugly incidents now, he should just apply wisdom even if he feels cheated and is within his rights of defence.

I can only wish him luck in this transfer window, all these will be put behind him when he is goodly fixed in a top club.

Which teams do you think will qualify for the next Africa Cup of Nations?
Tunisia and Gambia from group A
Morocco and Gabon from group B
Egypt for sure from group C
Nigeria and Benin from Group D
Togo and Equitorial Guinea from group E
Ghana and Angola from group F
Ivory coast and Zambia from group G
DR Congo and Guinea from group H
Mali and Guinea Bissau from group I
Cameroon for sure from group J
South Africa from group k
Senegal from group L
I concur with your line of picks of the teams you think would qualify for AFCONS next year.

In some of your picks(Group C, J, and L) you choose a team, not two. I think you purposely did that. Maybe, you feel is hard to know the second team that will qualify with the first team you pick, which I think is very hard to do anyway because how unpredictable matches can be. A team you think is going to win, losing.

However, In that regard, I think Egypt is qualifying with Cape Verde in Group C. Cameron will qualify with Zimbabwe in Group J, and Senegal will go with Burkina Faso in Group L.

All these predictions are not certain to happen as predicted. We saw how Super Eagles are finding it hard to qualify for 2026 World Cup qualification.

I chose these options based on the performance of my country's national team in recent years compared to the performance of the opponents of my country's national team in recent years. for example:

my country only played 1 game against mali which was 10 years ago, at a time when mali was better in terms of squad and my country was worse and even so the result was mozambique 1 - 2 Mali, despite It was a defeat for my country 10 years ago, at least we scored 1 goal. but looking at my country's national team currently, where it has sometimes managed to beat big national teams and draws more frequently in games against big national teams, I see my country with a chance of qualifying. Another example is my country's performance against Guinea Bissau

source: https://livescores.biz/h2h/guinea-bissau-vs-mozambique

even in times when my country's national team were not doing well and had a lot of difficulties in scoring goals and winning games, we still won't lose against Guinea-Bissau, so I see that currently we have a chance of beating them and being able to qualify. It is true that games involving teams from Africa are very difficult to predict, but this is happening because most of the big teams from Africa in the past were having serious political problems in which governments started to hate Europeans without any valid reason in the past. In my opinion, this meant that these big teams started to have national coaches and no longer foreigners (Europeans) and the consequence is that they do not have good results

https://dailypost.ng/2024/07/12/nff-reportedly-offer-herve-renard-e2million-salary-to-coach-super-eagles/
The Nigeria Football Federation are now in contacting with Herve Renard seeking for his services in the position of the head coach of the Super Eagles after Finidi Goerge resignation due to losses of the Nigeria super eagles in the qualifier games under his management. For which which many argued he was incompetent for the job. But here's Renard are we sure he's going to take up the task? I heard the NFF are offering to pay 2 million euros as salary.

Renard is one foreign coach that is well acquainted with the African football games, and following his profile as the only foreign coach that have won the African cup of Nations twice, may be , he can bring back some hopes if he eventually takes up the job.

Well the first thing to take now is that he obviously has a strong record and that's what counts although even if he indeed signs the contract, he still needs to perform some magic to be able to see Nigeria scale through in terms of the world cup qualifications because their chances now are very slim after the series of disappointment that occured with the super eagles and George finidi.

I think it's due to the 50/50 chances of the Super Eagles qualifying for the world cup qualification that they are out for someone who's with a high propensity of scaling the Super Eagles through and not just an average coach. Knowing what is at stake It's seem Renard believes he can actually deliver that's why he's asking for a huge pay salary for the role. Nigeria didn't qualify to the immediate past world cup and that was so embarrassing, it would be worst we don't qualify for a second time in a row.  if Renard has what magic he can use to scale the super eagles through despite where we are now then it's worth giving him a shot.

Herve Renard will do little to salvage the super Eagles to qualify for the world cup, because the time frame to select various players that he would have wanted to help out in this situation is short. The huge pay he is requesting for is because he knows that if he doesn't succeed with the qualification, the Nigerian football federation will call for his sack almost immediately, because the NFF is always impatient with results, so most coaches already know about that. So Renard is giving the NFF the shorter part of the stick by demanding for a huge pay.

Tactical experience was seriously lacking in the Super Eagles squad, Finidi George could not fill that vacuum. The super eagles are in a desperate position and need to keep winning all their games. What I expect our football federation to do is to not sack him as quickly as they did to Poseiro, we need a coach that will remain with the team for a long time so that he can properly build our team to standard if we make to the world cup and next AFCON.

I would love to correct an impression, AFCON isn't as terrible as you would want to make it feel after all, from AFCON, many good players have been spotted and bought to big tea.s where today theya ee stars,  the standards may not look like what you saw at Euro and Copa America but then there's still room for growth amd don't forget the advancement in sports generally over there and what is obtainable in Africa, its a whole different ball game but hopefully Africa will attain a good standard that will be just the best with what is obtainable in Africa.

I am African, since I started following African football I have seen very slow changes, this is due to the corruption that African governments have and when you watch the euro and the Copa America and then you look at the AFCON games and the person will start thinking: "what the hell am I watching" and it will not be a phrase in a positive sense, it will be a phrase of shock because the years are passing, African players have played in the big teams, but they are not super heroes who will carry the whole team in the back. a team is made up of many players and it would be difficult to have all the team's players coming only from the big teams and to make matters worse is that when African players play in AFCON, they tend to save themselves because they know that an injury could harm them in the European team

because he knows that when he gets injured and loses his place on the European team, his country's federation won't do anything for him. so the quality of the AFCON game is not good. If they organized the Euro, Copa America and AFCON in the same month, we would see that even in the people of Africa we would be watching the Euro and Copa America games and we would place the AFCON games as less of a priority.

There is always room for improvement. The recently concluded AFCON tournament was praised by many on the continent and also internationally for the level of officiating displayed in the tournament. There were no controversial calls by the referees and their use of VAR was spot on. This is an area I think we should be proud of and work on maintaining that standard.

Exactly, like the AFCON this year was just so unique and matured both in the standards of players and the match officiators as there were no much controversy as it used to be in the past so even though we may not measure up exactly with western standards but the football dynamics in Africa is improving seriously so changes don't just come immediately, it is a gradual process because we can't hire European players or officiators. We get everything we need from within the African circle so our mentality is not much upgraded to match up with western ethics so we should accept our own the way we see it now and hope for subsequent improvements.

Renard is one foreign coach that is well acquainted with the African football games, and following his profile as the only foreign coach that have won the African cup of Nations twice, may be , he can bring back some hopes if he eventually takes up the job.

Herve Renard is a nice coach and for the fact he has won the AFCON with Zambia and Ivory Coast means he can handle the job for the super eagles but is 2 million Euros not too much as salary?

After watching the euros and Copa America and seeing how intensive and competitive their games are, it just goes to show that we have a lot work to do in AFCON in making it seriously competitive. Nigeria with all the super star players tend to have similar fate with England and are almost struggling to win most of her .matches even when they possess the strongest and most Informed players in the continent.

If they organized the Euro, Copa America and AFCON in the same month, we would see that even in the people of Africa we would be watching the Euro and Copa America games and we would place the AFCON games as less of a priority.
you don't expect most of our top African stars to play well for thier nations when they don't get the kind of facility and support players receive at the Euros and Copa America. When you're called up to play for England or Spain, you're certain that you will receive the same kind of medical treatment and welfare you're used to at the club level but that's not same with African football and particularly AFCON. I know we're still growing and evolving and from the look at last AFCON, we can't deny the growth and level of effort that has been put out in that tournament. Honestly, I don't even notice any difference between the atmosphere at the last finals of the AFCON between Nigeria and Cote devoir and what played out between England and Spain at the Euros. In terms of pattern of play, we know that most African players are very aggressive and likes to play energy football which is one reason why you might not see them playing the regular tiki taka you see at the Euros and Copa America and that's just the uniqueness of the different continent and how thier style of football is. At the coming AFCON at Morocco, we will see alot of improvement and with time African football will get close to what's happening at the Euros and Copa America.
