A friend of mine sent this message to me. How true is this? Using money to bribe the Angola team to perform better and win the competition.

~
Angolan bank, Banco Keve promised to give the Players $9,600 each if they beat Nigeria.

Angolan diamond company, Social EP promised to give the team $250,000 if they beat Nigeria.

Angolan Player, Gilberto says they will beat Nigeria at the Quarter Finals. He even boasted that the Super Eagles are not a threat to them.

Infact, an Angolan bank, BAI gave each Player $6,000 for beating Namibia 3-0 in the AFCON Round of 16.

A Telecoms company, UNITEL, as well gifted each Player an iPhone 15.

In case you've forgotten, Angola denied Nigeria FIFA World Cup qualification in 2006.

Friday is the day. Lets see what the outcome would be
I don't think the promise Angola bank made to their team will change anything from Angola players if they fail to prepare well to meet Nigeria players because, super eagles of Nigeria are not weak team you can use money to force your players to perform better than them.

The two teams have met before and this game will prove how strong they are in this season but super eagles will be my favorite team which I know that they will use all their local tactics and international tactics to beat Angola 2:0 for the favour of Nigeria to move ahead to semi-final.
Yes, there are rules in football. If anyone goes against those rules on the process of playing, they will surely face the punishment. Nigerian team having given their fans much confidence that they will win the match. It doesn't matter if there are promises or not. Any team that will have a good performance will surely do.

It's almost Friday yet, i can't wait to see what the outcome will be, since both teams are preparing so hard to face each other. I believe in Victor Osimehn, he would probably find a way to create chances for goals that day if he does not score.

This have taught me that even the best team at some point can still not win the trophy in a tournament so looking down on any team may just be a mistake as you may be very wrong by judging them by their previous performance, they may have improved and gotten even better and beat a "big team".

Senegal defeat was unfortunate against Ivory Coast but it is penalties after all, hazardous.. Egypt also lost their match after being unlucky in penalties.
These teams although being better theoretically, couldn't win their games because they weren't able to score more than 1 goal in 90 minutes..
Until now I see only Nigeria as the best and classical team going to Quarter-final. Guinea and Ivory Coast aren't that bad too and might be annoying for the super eagles

Senegal defeat was very unfortunate because they are the best teams in this competition but nevertheless when it comes down to penalty shoot winner doesn't determine how best they played because even the best player among are are also scared and at the same time I am happy for the Ivory Coast for making it through the penalty shootout, Senegal really show sign of been a champion which I was impressed with their performance. I am a Nigerian and am so happy for the exited of Senegal because they are the only team i think can be a threat to my country. Ivory Coast government will be so proud now and their new head coach too with this it's clear that they are been mismanage by the former coach, once again congratulations for their victory.

Few minutes to Start Mali v Burkina Faso, this match will be tough, right from the group stage Mali finished first in table while Burkina Faso finished second but still that doesn't matter but let who will make it  to the next round.

It looks funny to see that the big Africa countries in football with international super stars are out of the competition due to their inability to have a clean victory. Penalty is a game of luck, and even the weakest country can win the strongest country with penalty shoot out.

I will say that this is a blessing for the Super Eagles in disguise, because the countries that we think will give them tough time or might be a challenge for them are out of the competition. I think that this is the opportunity for Nigeria to win the Nation cup this year if they can keep on scoring more goals in any match that they play from onset.

If you are opportune to score a goal and have a lead against a team in a knockout stage, your target should be able to to add more goals if the there are enough time and if the time is some minutes away, your defending should be stronger but moderately and careful than your attack but Senegal were full of themselves and foul a player which gave Ivory coast a penalty goal and they were smart to maintain that to the penalty despite the extra added time.

I'm more worried about Morocco, those guys can take out South Africa without going for war, there is not arguments about that and if they manage to beat South Africa, those guys will qualify to Semi final and nothing is going to stop them unless South Africa remove them or they lose in the Quarter Final against Cape Verde.

All things considered, Ivory Coast has been the better team and they deserve to win this game. Not many teams would be able to hold on like this the way Senegal has. This goes on to show how good this Senegalese team is.
The problem is Ivory Coast doesn't know how to penetrate Senegal's defense. Senegal defends in such a compact manner. They have been so good.

It's still 1-1 and I believe Ivory Coast would win this game. If it gets to a penalty shootout then it's more of luck. But there's also the fact that Mendy is terrible at penalties.

I can't ask Mane for more because he has given his all and he has been superb so far. His only error for me was not hitting the ball once on one occasion where he received the ball in front of goal. It has been a really interesting game and I believe there will be more coming.

Kudos to the Ivory Coast Team, they deserved the qualification as they were obviously the better team in this match and they deserved to go through. But we must also acknowledge the Senegalesse team who were able to hold on probably because they got am early goal. Some persons are on Mane’s neck for not hitting on his goal, but I’ll love to remind them that they’re in one fierce competition that has crazy importance and the pressure on him playing the host is enough reason to make you miscalculate. Well the match has ended and the host won on penalties and they’re through to the quarterfinals.

Now in this quarterfinals, they’ll ought to go and work on themselves more because they’ve always had issues with scoring and that was almost an issue for them here if not for the penalty that was converted from open play that took the match to extra time. Yes they play the ball nicely and their progression is quite impressive but the issue of hitting the goals is quite worrisome and they need to work on that if they want to get something in this competition.

The opportunity a team loses will always hunt them in the game. Senegal was the favourite because they were the defending champions and had a better squad. But the Ivory Coast team were not also bad because they kept pressuring the defence of Senegal until the goalkeeper Edouard Mendy made a mistake that caused the penalty by fouling Nicolas Pepe. I was surprised that Gabonese referee Pierre Atcho initially waved the penalty and even gave Pepe a yellow card for diving. It was a clear penalty and even an amateur referee would have taken such a decision without checking the VAR.

South Africa has not been a consistent quality side but we cannot just underrate or write them off. We have seen many lowly-rated teams putting up superb performances in this competition. Morroco has not lost a game in this competition while the Bafana Bafana have lost one game and qualified in the second position of Group E with four points. So the Atlas Lions are the favourite in this important encounter.

I wouldn't call the money that some companies in Angola, promise to give the Angola team " bribe money'', instead it should be motivational money, to motivate the team players of Angola to win against Super Eagle. Other countries do that, Angola is not the first country to do that, and neither will they be the last to do that. Our country Nigeria did that in the last AFCON.

On Friday will be a payback time for the Super Eagle to lash Angola for denying them the 2006 World Cup qualification. If the Super Eagle should lose, fine. If they win much better. We have seen how Egypt and Senegal got kicked out of AFCON so soon.

AFCON this year is full of many surprises that we can't predict which country will win in a given match.

The 2024 African Nations Championship has caused the dismissal of 6 coaches so far. These dismissals are a worrying phenomenon in the African Nations Championship, as they indicate the instability of the technical staff of the participating teams.

Despite the coincidence of these dismissals, their reasons are multiple, and some of them were only due to statements, meaning that the weakness of the technical staff may not be the only reason.

This is a worrying phenomenon in the African Nations Championship, and local unions must search for solutions to reduce it.
There may be other factors as to why they were sacked but amongst those sacked are Chris Hughton of Ghana, Tom Saintfiet of Gambia and Djamel Belmadi of Algeria. At least we can all agree that the aim of hiring these coaches is to ensure they give positive results but from the looks of things, these guys didn't perform satisfactorily enough hence their sack. Maybe they underperformed because there wasn't enough funds at their disposal to bring in the personnel needed to train these guys or something was wrong, because if you ask them, they'd tell you what their challenges were.

According to what I read in the news, the organizational office at the Tunisian Football Federation has been dismissed. In my opinion, this decision is wiser than just dismissing the coach and holding him fully responsible, because the responsibility is always shared, as evidenced by the fact that the entire organizational framework is rewarded when the team achieves victories, so why not collective punishment as well?

There are expectations of a new wave of dismissals in Egypt after its exit from the second league in the tournament. It was a shock to everyone, especially since Egypt has good players.
I hope that Morocco does not continue on the same path by leaving the tournament, because in that case any Arab country would remain.

I also think same with you. The money will surely serve as motivation to the players, but will their capacity defeat the Super Eagles of Nigeria? that's the question here, and will they promise them another money after defeating Nigeria?

All these promises are to encourage them, and I don't think it will change anything that has been destined to happen in the match; Nevertheless, I am in full support of the Nigeria Team because I trust the Super Eagle defensive line.

Predicting match outcome in AFCON tournament this season is difficult, which shows that the competition is intense, and the African football has improved.

Hakimi just missed a penalty that would have renewed their hope in the match as they are losing one goal to nil. It is obvious the big teams are being kicked out of the competition this year. If South African is able to hold their one goal lead against Morocco to the end of the match, it will become confirmed that all the big teams are out. Yesterday, Ivory Coast defeated Senegal the favorite team to win the trophy and also the defending champion. Today is another unexpected result, a clear indication that this year's AFCON is unique.

I will start by expressing how deeply saddened I am about the Senegal losing that match yesterday. With the way Senegal was playing Ivory Coast yesterday, I never thought they were going to give in at the penalty shootouts. The gameplay of Ivory Coast yesterday and their ability to be able to win that match only goes on to say that if Nigeria can put their shoes on properly, they will stand a chance to win this year's AFCON because they have every reasons why they should win this.

As for Egypt, I didn't really watch their match yesterday so I can't say anything about the game but Nigeria stand a very great chance to become the Champions for this tournament. So let's enjoy the moment.

Disallow goal missed penalty bring Morocco down, and we have third favorite team out of the AFCON cup with lineup for the last eight also completed which is now interesting because now most chances we will have Ivory Coast vs Nigeria match in final.
Now with today result things are clearly indicating quality is increasing and mostly teams are doing their best for the having better results and improved quality which will make things interesting in future as well because before start of the event mostly were talking about Senegal, Egypt and Morocco, but now we have too many teams to talk about hopefully we will have interesting matches in quarterfinals with things are clear about finalists.

If Ivory Coast played the way they played against Senegal going forward in this tournament then they would go very far.
Ivory Coast where a better side than Senegal yesterday. The fact that they won in penalties doesn't mean they were lucky. They worked really hard. The problem was, that they couldn't break Senegal's defense because they didn't have the attack for that and because of how good Senegal set up.
Senegal is a very good team, so for Ivory Coast to play draw with them in normal time and extra time shows how hard they had to work.

If Ivory Coast plays that way against a country like Nigeria then they stand a big chance of winning if they would be able to make use of their chances.

Senegal and Egypt getting knocked out didn't surprise me much, but South Africa winning Morocco was a very big surprise to me. I didn't think South Africa had it in them. I knew it was not going to be a difficult game but I didn't expect Morocco to be knocked out. We are witnessing a very interesting tournament and like I said yesterday, there's still more to come.

Hakimi shouldn't have taken that penalty. That sorta penalty in such a crucial isn't for the faith of heart and requires someone that is very experienced at those kind of times. I could remember when Liverpool always leaves penalties similar to the one Hakimi took  for Milner to take because he can withstand withstand the pressure that comes with such penalty. While I don't blame him, he'd continue to have regrets and blame himself for missing the golden opportunity because if he had scored, Amrabat might not have got the red card and south Africa wouldn't have gotten the second goal.

This is one of the most interesting AFCON tournament in a long term now. Big teams that are being seen to have won the tournament are the ones getting knocked out by the small teams, what an intriguing tournament it is. To me, Nigeria, Ivory Coast and South Africa are the only big teams left in this competition and they may likely meet each other in the semifinal of the tournament i.e Nigeria and South Africa. If Ivory Coast can secure a win throughout their remaining matches, they could meet with either Nigeria or Ivory Coast at the final if they also made it there too. No teams are being undermined now, so we expect anything to happen before that time.

Hakimi shouldn't have taken that penalty. That sorta penalty in such a crucial isn't for the faith of heart and requires someone that is very experienced at those kind of times. Achraf Hakimi had the confidence to play the penalty but he was just unlucky that the ball hit the cross bar and went out of play when they needed the goal the most. South Africa knocking out Morocco tonight was amongst what I least expected in today’s match.
Hard luck to Morocco who made it to the semifinals of the World Cup but couldn’t even get to the quarterfinals of the African Cup of Nations, it is just too unbelievable but that is what football is. The unexpected happens when we least expect it to happen.

If we talk about African players who play in Europe. almost all teams participating in the African Cup this time there are those who play in leagues in Europe. although maybe his capacity is not a star player in Europe.

I think it's just unbelievable how almost all the bigger teams have been knockout of this afcon by smaller teams, which I find very interesting, because most of the bigger teams wasn't able to leave up to the hype around them, even though I still feel that this year afcon  will still be won by a bigger team, such as Nigeria or Cote D'Ivoire national team.

Secondly, I really expected this Moroccan national team to go all the way to the final in this year African cup of nations unlike others due to their performance in the immediate past world cup, which they came out fouth, but they were not able to live up to the expectations of their traveling fans and cheering supporters at the stands by not being able to beat the bafana bafana of south Africa which I think is inferior to them, but that's football, it full of surprises.

I have always said this edition of the AFCON is the year of the underdog but at the pace it's moving with the favourites like Senegal and Morocco crashing out, and the the the hosts from almost being sent home to knocking out the defending champions....I think this is scripted for ivory Coast to win it !!!!

You look at the remaining teams, and tell me if this story doesn't sound better with a host nation winning, otherwise they played with heart and with 2-3 games to go I think they will hang on and they can do it...

Other teams to watch out for, Cape Verde, Mali , Nigeria, South Africa.
