Much credit needs to go to that man Victor Osimhen because for me, he seemed like the man of the match. He carried so much weight on his shoulders that even during the first half, he was already exhausted. No much ball feeding from the wingers and that made him do their job for them. See the buildup to the first goal, he was instrumental to it. To me that's a true attacker, even though he didn't score any goals, that assist and his presence alone gingered the Eagles to their victory. Kudos to them, I hope they continue with this fire in the quarter finals.
It's a well-deserved victory, and that's how you finish a good game of football. Osihmen is always a threat, whether he scores or creates chances! Osimhen is a powerhouse for the Eagles to their victory. Both Osimhen and Lookman, along with the entire team, demonstrated a good fighting spirit. The Nigerian squad is starting to play like a team now. Everyone came through in one way or another. The energy, passion, and team spirit were evident today. It's fact this Nigerian Super Eagles are improving in this tournament as they progress.
The aggressive nature of the Afcon came to light yesterday during the Super Eagles and indomitable lions' match . I was kinda scared for Osimhen during one of his tackles. It's good to see that professionalism has crept into African football and it was well orchestrated by Osimhen himself who would have been selfish to try scoring on his own.
Angola is going to be a tougher opponent and am sure if the Eagles were to succeed, no other team would knock them out till the finals.

Indeed the AFCON was expected to be that tough in the knockout stages though it looked like an easy win because of the fact that the Super eagles of Nigeria were able to score two goals but it took them lots of commitment and determination before they were able to succeed so the eagles actually played with so much team spirit in their match with Cameroon. It's just very unfortunate that fans doesn't seems to understand that their at times when a professional player also finds it difficult to make things happen for his team and it can be vividly referenced to Victor Osimhen performance in the AFCON before he made a spectacular display against Cameroon hence the fans were chanting his name after the eagles won Cameroon.

Nigeria - Angola quarter finals would be very tough considering the fact that Angola is also one strong team in the AFCON competition as they were also able to win their opponent Namibia by 3:0 in the knockout stages match they played last Saturday though Angola is far better than Namibia but anyone following up the AFCON matches will understand that no team is to be underrated but however, if Nigeria must win Angola then they need to apply same quality and team spirit they showed in their match with Cameroon.

I watched the round of 16 game between the most successful nation in the history of the CAF African Cup Of Nations Egypt vs DR Congo last night and I can authoritatively say that the knockout stages of the current edition of the tournament have been epic and dramatic. It was a tightly contested game that ended up in penalty shoot out after none of the teams could find a winner in normal time and to my surprise, DR Congo came out victorious in that particular encounter.

Talking about the Nigeria Super Eagles, they've been impressive since the start of the tournament as most of the team players have been giving nothing but their best. The biggest test of the Super Eagles was in their game against Cameroon two days ago but what really surprised me was how they successfully outperformed their Cameroonian counterparts in that game. They'll face Angola on Friday for the quarter finals and I'll be banking on them as well to win that particular encounter.

Super Eagle has only conceded a goal out of their four matches played so far in the tournament. This could be our best AFCON match so far because our defense and frontline are strong, coupled with we have a good goalkeeper.
Nwabali has not really been tested because our defense has been very good. Nwabali was subbed out of the game because of an injury from the rough play of the Cameroonians, we await to hear good news about his return because we cannot trust Uzoho at this stage of the competition where the competition is getting more serious.

I liked the seriousness I saw in our players yesterday against Cameroon, they bullied the Indomitable lions all through the game. Pressed hard and were aggressive. If we can be that serious against Angola, we will beat them.
Nwabali is not looking to me like a very good keeper but then he's a preferred choice than uzoho , so far our defense has been really fantastic in their performance and have made it that there have been no serious threat to test nwabali to the ebest of his ability but so far I think he will make a better combination with the Eagles defense line than with Uzoho, the few minutes Uzoho played yesterday shows how chaotic he could be if he were to have played in the full time .

I'm hoping the Eagles maintain the strength around their defense and possibly improve it so they can see their selves to the finals even though they haven't been so outstanding in all their performance but so far they have been making progress.
From own point of view Nwabali is calm with has a perfect timing of aerial balls though he had not really been tested to determine whether he is a goalkeeper, however as the team progress surely we would know if he is a good goalkeeper though credit goes to the Super Eagle defence line who had been very solid and covered Nwabali well, I think as the team play the quarterfinals and playing against Angola a formidable opponent definitely the abilities of Nwabali would be well tested onthe condition that their defence would not be solid that day of course I dout if their defence line would slack thus wouldn't give any room for complacency and Nwabali may not be well tested throughout competition till finals.

Nwabali have been very good too me by his few outing in the colors of the Nigerian jersey, knowing a very good player is not that difficult, because what I initially expected us to look at is his calm presence in goal.
In as much as the defense has gotten all the credit they deserve you can't discredit nwabali under the pretext that he is not been really tested, that he is being cover by the defense, which to me is not true, just take a look at the few minutes uzoho spent in goal and how things were at back due to the fact that they start missing that calm presence nwabali brings, so to me he also deserve his full credit just as every other member of our defense.

Definitely the match between Nigeria and Angola on Friday 2 of February is going to be a tough one,  as the southern African team are very vigorous with their attack at the Frontline, unlike Nigeria that are defensively minded.
However Just as you rightly said, at this stage of the game, no team is an underdog as they are all champions in waiting. The Nigerian team are very lucky to have a world class striker like victor Osimhen, because even though he doesn't score the goal himself, he creates chances for his other teammates to score, playing more with a team spirit and not individually minded.

The Super eagles morale is very high at the moment. Winning Cameroon has lifted the team spirit and they have somehow won the trust of their fanbase again, so I think they will go ahead to win Angola in their next fixture. Although the winning won't come very cheap, the super eagles has to be ruthless in this game. But am sure they will win the Angola side.

Cape Verde Vs Mauritania
The first match of today is between two teams that showed us a good gameplay during this competition with many surprises and last moments of the third match to pass next stage 1/8 finals. Odds of this match is with Cape Verde who was the first team to qualify in the group stage, counting it as a stronger opponent against Mauritania who made it after beating Algeria that was highly expected to reach finals or semi-finals.
I predict that we will see a surprise from Mauritania, my bets are all with them today.

Senegal Vs Ivory Coast
Second match between stronger teams that are also qualified for a chance to play in finals, Ivory Coast I was personally expecting a better performance than what we use to see them in finals.
Senegal in the other hand is a very strong team without any doubt for me they will win today even if it's going to be difficult, I believe in their coach and players.

Who else have the same or different opinion and predictions?

A friend of mine sent this message to me. How true is this? Using money to bribe the Angola team to perform better and win the competition.

~
Angolan bank, Banco Keve promised to give the Players $9,600 each if they beat Nigeria.

Angolan diamond company, Social EP promised to give the team $250,000 if they beat Nigeria.

Angolan Player, Gilberto says they will beat Nigeria at the Quarter Finals. He even boasted that the Super Eagles are not a threat to them.

Infact, an Angolan bank, BAI gave each Player $6,000 for beating Namibia 3-0 in the AFCON Round of 16.

A Telecoms company, UNITEL, as well gifted each Player an iPhone 15.

In case you've forgotten, Angola denied Nigeria FIFA World Cup qualification in 2006.

Friday is the day. Lets see what the outcome would be

Lets see what the outcome would be

is that bribery?
I think there is nothing wrong with what the Angolan bank and the diamond company did, the prizes promised by the two companies are a form of motivational support for the Angola team to beat Nigeria later, Nigeria and Angola will face each other in the quarter-final match and both teams have closer to getting the trophy so it really takes a strong mentality to be able to beat each other, including the words spoken by Gilberto which I consider to be psywar, with psywar it will actually make the match even more heated and also push for both teams to show each other their abilities .
I think that if a local company gives money to players from their country, it's just a bonus, award or whatever it is called because it has made their country name proud in football that's normal, But if an Angol company gives money to Nigerian players, referees or anyone who can control the match and causing Nigeria to lose on purpose is what we should call bribery and ridicule this shameful act they deserved

I really don't think it's bribery, what I think of it is that they are trying to motivate their player's with such huge amount of money so as to spur them to Victory against the super eagles of Nigeria, and if my memory serves me right this has also happened in the Nigerian national team in the past when the super eagles were promised some series of bonuses if they can achieve the desired result at that particular time, so it's normal.

The news is true and I don’t see this as bribery but a means of encouragement to the players. But that is not enough for them to beat a team like Nigeria. In this competition, Nigeria is really playing well and they stand a chance to win the game ahead of Angola. Remember what happened in 2006 World Cup qualification, I already seen many posts of Nigerians saying it is time for revenge and the players shouldn’t take the match easy on them. I can’t wait to see how this match will be played out and the most anticipation that awaits in this match for both teams.

~Snipped~
This act is not bribery but motivation to make the players put in more effort.  I am even surprised that the Super Eagles have not started getting the same pledges from the government and billionaires like Femi Otedola and Aliko Dangote. Some of these Angolan players are not as rich as other top players in Africa so these gifts will be a big motivation to put in their best. I believe the Nigerian team might start getting the same support maybe before the game on Friday.  I am sure that the game will be very interesting because both teams have shown enough quality and determination. The Super Eagles are favourites in this game but they should not underrate the Angolan team because they might receive the surprise of their life.

There's nothing wrong with that brother, this is what our Nigeria government use to do in case you forget and I feel is not going to help the team I mean the Super Eagles because whenever this kind of thing happens you'd see the team that have been doing pretty well will start messing up till they're knocked out. So to me, what they're doing to the Angola national team is only to motivate them and I can tell you for free that they're afraid of what's coming at them even Gilberto knows they can't stand the SUPER_EAGLES and we're going to beat the Angola national team 3-0, let's wait for Friday to come.

Cape Verde vs Mauritania.
I must really commend Cape Verde for their doggedness in this AFCON
for haven come this far, they won Mauritania 1-0. Cape Verde is one country in Africa a lot of people don't give recognition for especially when it comes to football, they've been so consistent in trying to make a stamp in the African football competitions over the last 5 years. They just won Mauritania and have qualified for the next stage of the competition.

Senegal vs ivory Coast.
This game is coming up in an hour time, I'm glued to my TV to see the outcome of the this two special countries in the African football world.
However I see Senegal wining this game, having been consistent in their group stage matches, the ivorians other hand haven't been too consistent, they've had a lot of floppy display in this competition even as a host country, they've not been hungry and passionate as they've been in previous competitions of this nature.

Don't you think this will result in a very brutal pattern of playing on the field? You know the feeling when money is involved: people tend to go the extra mile in whatever they are doing. I am expecting to see a very brutal match between those two countried. My prayer is that there should be no casualties. This is because Nigeria as well are ready to face the, and are trying to stop history repeating itself.

I don't know if is normal for coaches to blame the failure of their team on inexperience or they're just using that as an excuse to save their job and not taking the blame for their fall. We saw the Egypt who everyone thought they're going to qualify into the next round lost to Dr Congo and with time you'd hear the coach of the Egyptian saying that is inexperience that made them lost the game (just as the Cameroon coach is saying) but to me is never inexperience but change, is like the Egyptians are lacking quality players, with time they'd come back stronger but they need to rebuild the team, like who's Dr. Congo where we have Egypt?

People were thinking Egypt would qualify for the next round of AFCON because when we see the performance of Egypt, it is when they play with a team that is not very strong and they easily beat that country, so that is why everyone was thinking they would qualify, but that is not the case here. Egypt lacks experienced players, no doubt, but the coach did not suppose to say that out of his mouth. In my opinion, the reason is that he is the one managing the squad, so he will be responsible, and anything good will be expected, and he should be the one to handle that. So for him to say he lacks experienced players, I think I will blame him because it's his job to deliver well for the country, so he supposes to the players he is using and the ones that will be playing for him anytime he has

Senegal 1-0 Ivory Coast

Frank Kessie score for the Ivory Coast and its 1-1 now, Im watching the game and Im sure Ivory Coast will be able to score in the Extra Time.
Senegal should not only play defensive in the 2nd half, and now it will be hard for them to score again.
ET will be interesting, I guess there will be 2 goals at least.

I think this is another upset coming up and if care is not taken we might be seeing the current champions parking their bags and exiting the tournament. At half time Senegal was winning and now we're seeing a 1-1 draw heading to penalty shootouts if the extra time won't produce goals, I hope the host are ready to over work their muscles because I can see the Senegal team with enough strength to play the extra time.

Well, we cannot be too sure, don't forget that Senegal has been in charge of this game since from the first half, ivory Coast are just coming into the game now, but still see Senegal as the passionate side as against ivory Coast. Mane and Jackson have been so good upfront, but given the current tempo of the game, the ivorians might just pull a surprise one, however let's see how the extra time would look like for the both side.
