Even with setting priority low on all the monero processes the blockchain synch is bogging my system to the point of unusability. I have a 6 core system and thats pretty unacceptable that I cannot synch in the background. Win7x64.
I can mine watch video's browse multiple streams and play games on this system but not synch. What is the deal with that?

I am using linux ubuntu on laptop with ssd. Sync could take like 3 days. That is the estimation. Laptop has not been on all the time. The blocks from 0 to 1,200,000 synced in about 10 hours. But the last 100,000 are very slow.
Any ideas how to speed up the sync?

Few more questions about slow sync.
What the core team has said this about issue? What are they doing for it? What they will do for it? On how high is it on their priority list? What do we need to sync faster? Switch from laptop to Desktop machines? What kind of?
Exchanges sometimes cancel temporarily some coin services for few hours, including monero, for resync the blockchain. How can they do it so fast, in few hours, while we are doing it for many days?

Synchro lasts for a long 3 days, and not finished yet. Are you stuck on a certain block? Or is it just slowly fetching new blocks? It took 4 days to sync with blockchain, which is only 17 GB in size. Seems too long. Are you using an HDD or an SSD? Sync time is largely dependent on what kind of system you use and whether you use an SSD or HDD.

If I recall correctly, this only works if you have another node (that is already fully synced) running on your local network.

Regarding lack of documentation, see phishead's answer. The forum has been quite inactive since the beginning. It is currently mostly used for forum funding system proposals.
Newbie can't write reliable docs, isn't it? Forgot to answer this. Anyway, everyone, even newbies, is entitled to make a pull request to website to either update existing documentation or creating new documentation. Other contributors could make remarks on the pull request and suggest edits. Of course, you are correct that some knowledge is needed to work on documentation. In addition, like phishead said, in an open source project there is no central authority responsible for creating documentation. Hence, it's up to the contributors and community to create and maintain documentation. What does it means "forum funding system proposals"? To gather money for forum's maintenance?
See smooth and nioc's answers.

Is your system relatively old? Also, is your bandwith somehow limited? Usually it shouldn't take this long on a decent system with an SSD.

It could be that an HDD with a slow writing speed is the root cause of your issue.

Connection through mobile phone is fast, at least download. But I do not know about upload speeds. Do mobile connections have some other features which make them unfit for sync wallets?

Positive Coindesk article about Monero could also mean that they dumped ZEC at the peak a week ago, now they bought XMR on dip, rinse and repeat with any coin they think its hot atm ...
Could also mean they didn't. Do you trade with a coin?

Could also mean they didn't. Do you trade with a coin? Media as always is profit oriented. They always have the motives on every reports and articles. Some are true, some are not and some just to create hype and sometimes just to FUD. When I buy/sell coins I always try to have more sources sometimes at least the coin's official twitter (no negative news) and here in bitcointalk (positive and negative).

Perc 6i raid 5 ~300MBs
RAID5 doesn't have fantastic random IOPS performance. For the daemon, random IOPS (few writes among a lot of reads) is what you want. What have you set the write cache policy to in your PERC6/i, writeback or writethrough? What about the read ahead setting? I would suggest no read ahead or adaptive read ahead.

More system memory may help. If you can cache the whole blockchain in RAM that would speed things a lot. Get at least 32GB on that Ryzen machine and create a 16-20GB ramdrive (since you're on Windows, try imdisk). Put the bockchain there and when you're done syncing, dump it back to disk.

Not a bad idea, what size is chain right now?
