https://arstechnica.com/information-technology/2021/06/monero-emerges-as-crypto-of-choice-for-cybercriminals/?comments=1Russia-linked REvil, the notorious ransomware group believed to be behind the attack this month on meatpacker JBS, has removed the option of paying in bitcoin this year, demanding monero only, according to Brett Callow, threat analyst at Emsisoft.
Meanwhile, both DarkSide, the group blamed for the Colonial Pipeline hack, and Babuk, which was behind the attack on Washington DC police this year, allow payments in either cryptocurrency, but charge a 10 to 20 percent premium to victims paying in riskier bitcoin, experts say. Damn, those commenters are morons, I wonder if they are shills.

It is another confirmation from a prestigious crypto-enthusiast about Monero. Monero: A good long-term investment? Will Monero come back after the community realize the fact that no one can break the privacy of Monero transaction so far. theymos mentioned about Monero in [Guide] Decent mixing methods#2 - Monero
Monero is not a magic black box which provides perfect anonymity! If you use eg. flyp.me to buy XMR and then quickly sell this XMR on flyp.me again, it is blatantly obvious to flyp.me what you've done (if they keep logs), both due to the amounts and the specific Monero inputs used. In order to get decent privacy, you have to do something like this: 1. Convert BTC to XMR (using your own Monero wallet, not a hosted wallet). 2. In two or more transactions of random amounts, move XMR from that wallet to a different wallet/account. 3. Optionally, you can repeat the above step with additional wallets/accounts for greater anonymity. 4. Preferably in two or more transactions of random amounts, convert the XMR in your last wallet in the chain to BTC. Ideally, all of the above should be performed over as long a period of time as you can tolerate.
- Pros: Possibly the best anonymity, especially if you're able to stay within the XMR ecosystem to some extent - Cons: You should use Tor with Monero, but you have to set this up manually; it's all more difficult; you're exposed to exchange rate risk; transaction fees may be significant

17m txs soon... #2 - Monero

Monero isn't mixing, it's just fungible (the consequence of fungible, is private). By the way the bold part is very important. Did you try : https://xmr.poker/en/joinWill see if you really have those diamond hands . Furthermore, what should be critical for XMR is 1) the work on haveno/commit. 2) an openbazaar based on xmr (something not super upper dark net) 3) a zeronet clone based on xmr addys (without udp leaks). with all those 3 + poker (once they add onion.v3)... we have a solid "ecosystem".

With the newsletter I tried to keep the Monero moon neutral on the diego issue for journalistic purposes. Issues 20 and 21 discuss it neutrally without going into detail and point to sources of information for people to make up their own mind.
If I forgot to post links to the article here then that wasn't on purpose. I posted links to issue 20, 21 and all other issues on r/Monero r/xmrtrader r/cryptocurrency and a few other reddit pages, plus shared the links extensively on 4chan and Twitter and on Telegram. I sometimes forget bitcointalk as I don't visit here much.
One thing I did notice were the stats for those two issues revealed a significantly lower number of readers, however that is likely to be due to the bear market as ppl lose interest and be completely unrelated to the community issue or my linking to the issues here. A tiny minority of readers are directed from bitcointalk.
Just for your sake, my own personal opinion of the matter is negative towards Diego and things related, which is likely to be similar to yours and many other community members'. Some of my reddit comments at the time are likely to reflect this.
But at the end of the day things are never going to be perfect, things will go wrong with any project, and I'm a staunch optimist, fully believing that the community can grow from this and make necessary changes to ensure the community isn't taken advantage of in the future.
Can I also add a small thank you for questioning my integrity as I think it's an important thing to do with any news reporting, and reflecting on this endeavours me to maintain community respect more than ever.
Cheers!

Well said and thanks for the adult response. I think this thread has more lurkers than you realize though. I would have liked to read a better synopsis of Diegos en-devours as all the info I've seen is scattered around so maybe you would be willing to do a specific article on this issue as it was a years long saga that apparently the community had no clue about.

If someone wants to write a synopsis of Diegos endeavours then I will happily link it in the next issue of the newsletter, however writing such a synopsis isn't something I personally have the spare time to do. The Monero Moon keeps me busy enough.

I have really appreciated your answer, maximum respect! Btw, let me say that even if I'm really interested in technical choices behind Monero, I'm definitely a rookie of the community's life, so I didn't know anything about Salazar issues until reading about it on Monero Moon 20. So, thank you for your work! BTW a bit OT: once you have contents ready to be published, I definitely believe social-media-manager-like activity (post here and there, tag with the right metadata for the platform you are on, ...) is really a demanding task... I wonder if any software/service exists out there to unload this part of the work
