Is there anything unique about Monero? It seems to have just added cryptonote and that's it. What's to stop 50 coins doing the same and having better marketing?

When you have 80% premine, it's fairly evident what they want: money. And if MRO takes their money by making BCN irrelevant, guess what they'll do next. Use their tech know-how to reclaim their "rightful" place, reducing the greed factor that was proven a weakness in the first stage, providing cryptoland with an improved product. It might take weeks or months, but they could make big money out of it - especially if they first dump their BCNs and then move to BCN 2.0 (named something different of course).

That's actually fine with me. If they want to return with an improved product without the scam launch, more power to them. If they want to focus their work on improving Monero, that's fine too. There was no premine or other launch scam here; none of us has any huge financial interest in it. As I said, the world benefits if they deliver something useful, with a healthy business model.

Guys, obviously if someone is taking the time to come on this forum and say negative things there is a REASON. If they did not want any monero they would not be here at all they would be on the forum of the coin they want =)

I tried BCN, deleted when I had to download a 1.5GB bootstrap for the blockchain at launch. Scam, they could have started it off fresh.

Your logic does not follow suit though. Auroracoin was totally mined like that and their intent was to distribute the money to the people. To say that BCN wants only money is just speculation. We don't know that they haven't tried to set up some kind of airdrop, we haven't been told anything other than that it's not for a pump and dump (this is posted by Dstrange in the BCN thread).

Actually, with that in mind I'd think it to be the exact opposite of what they want.

They are welcome to try and "claim their place", but again ... we don't have any Satoshi Nakamoto axe hanging over our heads. No one person or small group has all of the coins here. That's one of the pillars of this coins existence.

As far as the price goes ... that's far beyond you and me. That is something the free market will decide

Luckily, it's already gotten a fair comparison with both cryptonote.to exchange and Poloniex adding both coins to their exchanges.

If they win a short term marketcap game, that's fine. We're here to build a protocol, without Satoshi.

And no one knows the pain of FUD more than Darkcoin community trust me. It is just a few folks getting worked up for nothing. A few days ago some MRO trolls were crapping on DRK thread (before MRO boomed) and I had warned them there not to do it either.

Hardly. I'm not in here calling "pump and dump". I'm a supporter of digital currencies becoming more private. I want to go LT with cutting-edge coins but I honestly can't see anything unique from the team here.

Happy to be proved wrong but as I see it, this coin is vulnerable to other competitors adding cryptonote. I'm just looking for answers.

You wouldnt even be able to mine any cryptonote coin at a decent speed if it werent for the devs of Moreno LOL ! But the main thing they delivered was the creation of a community.

In fact this coin is really little more than BCN without the premine. "The team" is anyone who contributes code, which includes anyone contributing code to the BCN repository, because that will get merged as well (and vice-versa).

Focus on the technology (by all accounts amazing) and the fact that it was launched in a clean way without 80% of the total world supply of the coin getting hidden away "somewhere." That is the unique proposition here. There also happens to be a very good team behind the coin, but anyone trying too hard to market on the basis of some "special" features, team, or developer is selling you something. Hold on to your wallet.

Personally I found it refreshing that Monero took off WITHOUT a logo or a gui wallet, it means the team wasn't hyping a slick marketing package and is concentrating on the coin/note itself.

XLB and DRM seduced people with some fancy graphics and BS and look where they are now.

I don't think I seem hung up on anything. I can see through P&D scams. I'm asking what's in the works for development - technology, merchant adoption, etc? Is there anything unique in the works here or is it vulnerable to some other coin coming along?

This is only a month old. A clean launch isn't enough to ensure success at this point.

I'm generally on the anonymous train and I also have some vertcoins (that rocket will never take off it seems - might as well sell them if I lose patience).

I don't marry my coins because every single one of them has weaknesses. DRK V1 will need improvement, Bytecoin is 80% premine so it's doomed, Anoncoin is going nowhere with zerocoin, Zerocoin itself seems too uncertain and too government-funded, Libertycoin saying it wants to implement a basic darksend as libertysend in a week or so seems absurd and desperate (a week? wtf), Monero and other Bytecoin clones are just clones.

The only two that seem fixable, regarding their weaknesses, are DRK in V2 with all-around-anonymity and Bytecoin but not in its current state (due to the 80% premine), rather a second incarnation with technical upgrades which obsolete the current cryptonote model. Or that's my estimation anyway. If I knew the future I'd be a trillionaire

What I know for sure is that the anonymous market will be too large to ignore and that's why there is all this "competition" and rivalry. I've been saying it ever since it had something like 2-3mn market cap and now it's over 40 or 50mn. The main bet is that Bitcoin will not really adopt private features due to wanting to be transparent for regulators, or if it does, these features will not be at the level of the anonymous competitors who will conduct these transactions.

MRO took CryptoNote from the bottom of the ocean up to the surface, and like others have said, with no logo or a real GUI wallet. Wait till all the rest is sorted out and it really can go to da moon.
