Someone needs to make a Chrome extension to view '.bit' domains or something else making it very easy to view '.bit' domains or it will hinder its adoption being unable to easily view the sites.

See http://dot-bit.org/forum/viewtopic.php?p=2584#p2584 for easy viewing of .bit domains.

Sorry but that is not very user friendly and most people won't bother to do that.  Do you know of any proxy's?

Yup... downloading a text file, renaming it, then doubling clicking it is super hard.  I can barely get through my day because of all the double clicking and typing I am forced to do for work.

I don't mind doing that as I'm very interested in NMC but the average internet user would still have to be pushed into doing some easier and less technical such as even visiting a proxy or adding a browser extension.  This idea - https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=66393.0 - looks interesting maybe you should white-list the OP so he can post on the main boards?

Can't we get rid of that .bit thing and turn every registered domain into a TLD?

What's the use in sticking to this 3-letter TLD nonsense, seriously now?

.bit TLD are rarely accepted by web hosting services.
So, imagine you suppress the tld now, you would have near 0 services available and your only choice would be to do it yourself on a VPS/dedicated server. Plus, i wonder how to support this in dns servers, maybe another difficulty. Do you really want to be accessible ? :p
For all those reasons, the tld is still here.

If .bit become popular and it exists really easy tools that have all the required data/features locally on your computer (local dns or local proxies knowing .bit, changing your dns automatically, configuring your browser/os, etc), then, this may be feasible. Rendez-vous in some months/years :p

Sorry but that is not very user friendly and most people won't bother to do that.
You are a joker, don't you ? :p (ok, the rename step will be removed)

Do you know of any proxy's?
The only one that i know of is https://masterpool.eu/proxy.

We have contacted the foxyproxy guy, but with only one existing proxy, it's not currently a reliable solution.

ps : i am currently searching for people to make the frontpage of dot-bit and namecoin (in the bitcoin homepage style : an end user page). Are there some people motivated to help the namecoin project ?

what would you consider easy enough?  A windows installer would be relatively easy to create.

My friend is working on a '.bit' proxy website and eventually '.bit' search engine that can be accessed from any internet enabled browser.  I'll let you all know when it's ready Wink

Can you make it like tor2web.org?

use the bit domain as a subdomain of your proxy site instead of people having to visit your site to enter the URL they wish to visit they just go straight to it.
It will also enable google to index those pages that nowadays he can't index and you'll get free search engine traffic, and maybe make some money by showing a little banner on the top Smiley

looking good. but personally I would prefer the subdomain approach, too. next to the suffix method that is.

thanks Smiley

based on your suggestions I made some changes
URLs are now un-encrypted which will allow google to index them
also I enabled direct access and hot linking

for example you can link directly to wikileaks like this

http://bitviewer.net/browse.php?u=http://wikileaks.bit

just put whatever .bit site you want to browse in front of http://bitviewer.net/browse.php?u=

or you can be really slick and embed links like this
http://wikileaks.bit

hopefully this will get more people interested in and viewing .BIT domains
enjoy!

If anyone has a decent '.bit' site and they want it linking on the proxy website homepage and especially if you are willing to pay per click then please get in touch get in touch with me or Cablepair.  You could probably arrange it through 'Anonymous Ads' too.

You guys should post at least the last 10 visited sites on your homepage as a way for big G to pick them up and index them.

Please, on the proxy top frame explain what bitviewer and .bit domains are.
With time you'll start to get search engine traffic from uneducated(on namecoin that is) persons that will learn about it if you have a little explanation there.

I can only imagine how many people already learnt about Tor because of tor2web.org.

You guys have a nice thing going, I congratulate you! Smiley

Improve the speed of name_scan and name_list

I've committed a patch to improve speed of namecoin :
name_scan : -35%
name_list : -55%

Source is available on github : https://github.com/khalahan/namecoin/commit/9dd96f321a91ae1ae7ca676c60391274422ce3b6

It may be interesting for people having a lot of names, people maintaining a dns server with .bit, people doing stats from namecoin, etc.
