Thanks for delivering the message Bitbobb, much appreciated.  Issue appears to be mostly fixed now, so I should be able to resume posting here (not going to make promises on frequency; see my posting history on Reddit/Twitter -- IRC remains the quickest way to get my attention).

Since 2015 there is a fork of Namecoin because the .bit TLD was never established: SixElevenCoin

Since that date, blockchain registered domain name objects of 611coin are published using the anonymous SLD .611.to.

611coin is an accepted #cryptocurrency #blockchain domain namespace. The SLD .611.to is listed in the Public Suffix List which is used by major Browser and SSL authorities.

And like Namecoin, 611coin is an Open Source project: GitHub 611project

Interesting.  Aside from publishing names through a (centralised) server on 611.to, is there any other features that 611 has over Namecoin?  Because if that is all, then honestly it sounds like a cash grab to me - in Namecoin itself, everyone is free to just run something like 611.to on their own server if they want.  No fork or permission required to do so.  If you want a centralised server to resolve .bit, just go ahead and set one up.

To elaborate a bit on Daniel's post above: Namecoin's original dev "team" (if you could call it that) was one guy, Vincent Durham.  (There were a bunch of pre-genesis researchers who contributed, e.g. Appamatto, Aaron Swartz, Dan Kaminsky, and Zooko Wilcox, but I wouldn't describe them as Namecoin developers.)  Basically the same as Bitcoin's original dev "team" being Satoshi Nakamoto.  Like Satoshi, Vince retired circa 2011, leaving the project in the hands of the community.

Daniel and I joined Namecoin development in 2013 IIRC.  So there's been some continuity since 2013.  That said, as with any free software project, new developers will sometimes join.  Ahmed, Aerth, and Lola are examples of relatively recently (last few years) added developers.  There's nothing wrong with this: any project that doesn't attract new developers from time to time is probably an unhealthy project.

The Namecha.in explorer is currently broken, and attempts to contact its operator have been unsuccessful.  At the moment probably the least bad explorer is https://www.namebrow.se/ , so maybe link to that explorer instead.

Describing the PoW as SHA256d is slightly imprecise; describing it as AuxPoW-SHA256d would probably be more precise.

You can add the total supply; it's the same as Bitcoin.

Those are the only changes I can think of right now.

Kef left shortly before XChange began.  He's still in our Discord and I bug him as needed.  Kef got a grown-up job... hopefully we'll get him back on when we aren't so poor!

The XChange developer is Xploited.  X created CLAM (Clamcoin) and was an early developer in Digibyte.

Hmm, there might be an announcement pertaining to this subject coming out in the next couple months.  Alas, I'm not currently able to disclose details.  Anyway, I can definitely say that there's not a lack of effort being expended on this front.

I've honestly given up on trying to understand how markets think, because I think they're not really behaving rationally, and I try not to parse irrationality for the same reason that I try not to segfault Konsole by running "cat /dev/random".

That said, I speculate that part of the issue is that we're engineers, not marketers.  When you interact with us on Twitter, IRC, Reddit, etc, you're talking to the people who write the code, not some kind of PR sales drone.  This has major ethical benefits, e.g. you won't get fraudulent advice that Namecoin magically makes you anonymous or will make you rich.  It also has downsides, e.g. the fact that none of us really enjoy spending lots of time on public relations, and as a result a lot of people who don't closely pay attention don't know that we exist (or think that we died half a decade ago).  We *are* improving on this front, e.g. we now regularly give talks at conferences (I gave talks at C3 for the last 3 years; it's the largest hacker conference in Europe... perhaps you've heard about the big Tor Browser announcement I made at 36C3?), but at the end of the day there are some audiences that you can't really reach reliably without a massive marketing push, which we are simply not willing to do (because doing so would consume too many resources, pose ethics problems, or both).

Because pumper dumpers and market makers don't appreciate the protection of freedom of speech.When their blog or website gets taken down after some faux pas that offends some Karen or hybrid kev/kar then they might learn the hard way about the benefits of Name Coin
