Good to see that community is taking over.

There was no offer made yet, so we had to shut down the seed node to prevent additional costs.

Once community decides who will lead the development we're willing to give github access as well as other resources. It would be nice though, to get back at least part of money we invested. Partner negotiations for backing up the coin wasn't successful for us, but we hope that community will find ways how to push value of this coin up.

Good luck!

It is not necessary that you abandon the coin if a new dev takes over. You have the experience of originating the coin, maybe switch from main dev to part time junior dev. If you still own aeon and want the price to increase it would benefit if you remained as advisor to whoever is responsible.

Works for me. To be clear I am not really "taking over" as much as I am coordinating a community effort. It is quite apparent that nobody wants to put money into this coin to make a full development effort on it, and that includes me, but we can at least have volunteers to adequately maintain with a minimum of cost (or none at all). I'm merging the critical upstream patches, others have volunteered to host a seed node and build binaries, so it is all coming together.

As such, all are welcome to contribute.

node 178.62.9.75

Not accessible. You need to open/forward/unblock port 11180 on your router/firewall/etc.

On that IP I saw that port TCP 14141 was open, but even if I assumed it was running aeond I wasn't able to get my aeond to use it with the commands:

--add-peer IP:PORT
--seed-node IP:PORT

It would still try and connect to the default port. Any ideas, I pinged you on IRC.

We have another seed node now, but multiple seed nodes are good too, so if others are hosting them, I will add to the list.

Apologies, I skimmed the thread and did not fully realise what smooth was looking for, I had a spare machine, but not a node with static IP that would be helpfull

lol... surreal...  Grin (how much is worth a dead coin ?)
It would be good if it was possible to get part of the money I spent on electricity mining it (so I hope the community takeover will also pay for this...  Grin

coins not dead +100% in 24 hours with a few baby steps, I don't own a single Aeon, but that still puts a smile on my face

Testers wanted for update release candidate (source code only)

Pull from https://github.com/iamsmooth/aeon and build

To ensure that the seed node is working, please rename your p2pstate.bin file before starting the daemon (in ~/.aeon on Linux, or the corresponding place on other OS)

Thank you for testing!

So...there is a bit of activity in the market. A few buyers around, but, ....

All I was saying is it takes more than just keeping a coin alive, and I was prepared to do my part in a concerted effort, but smooth is with out doubt light years ahead of me, so it is a big plus he is helping.

Everyone is invited to contribute!

The only way this coin stays alive without someone investing money into it (which apparently didn't work) is the community pulling together.

For example, I could use someone to build Windows and Mac binaries. Not really my thing (I'm 100% Linux).

CryptoNote coins have been through a bit of a pounding in the last little while, so it would be great to see this happen

Agree. Enough infighting!

Still waiting for a node, any node...

There is a person who was making a new cryptonote wallet for monetaverde https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=657820.msg8939469#msg8939469
He was looking for others to work with.

The big flaws with cryptonote involve flaws in the user interface, it needs an attractive wallet and a way to appeal to people other than drug dealers, i.e., it needs to be useful for mainstream transactions.

One solution, and I don't know if this is possible, is to have two algorithyms in the wallet, cryptonote and another, perhaps bitcoin or whatever. A person could choose which algo to use but only that part of the economy transacted in the visible currency would be public. This would give the coin an edge over other anonymous currencies and add some credibility to cryptonote which it is lacking. As I say, I don't know anything about coding or scripts or anything like that but a project like selective anonymity, if it could be figured out between the various people would skyrocket the coin.

The wallet from Darknote is quite good so maybe we could take influence from it. A good wallet is important but a working coin is even more.

wallet agreed.
without being critical, and I admire the work already done on this coin and the volunteers who step in to save the coin,
I think a development community would grow with some exposure on:
https://openhatch.org/
https://www.openhub.net/
https://www.codeplex.com/
setting up aeon on those sites would draw community help especially from developers who might not know about aeon.

and a transparent marketing plan with transparent donations by the community would go along way. Cryptos and Opensource underestimate the importance of marketing.

A perfect coin would need no marketing and an utter junk coin is 100% marketing.

So a person has to decide where a coin fits on that continuum to determine how important marketing is.

When a person looks at cryptonote generally they see a coin that cannot be used for transactions requiring some sort of easy public confirmation, in other words cryptonote is not useful for most transactions.

So marketing has either to be directed to the drug dealer / child pornographer / hitman niche or the coin has to be adapted so it can be used by other groups.

Is there an emission graph somewhere? How does the emission compare to XMR and others?

It is identical to XMR, although the coin was launched a little later, so a bit earlier on the curve now.

Update release candidate feedback requested

Please leave feedback about the update release candidate I announced a few days ago.

If no problems are uncovered we will proceed to a release stage with binaries soon.

The feedback about the wallet and other ideas is great. I have some interesting and exciting ideas for this coin. Since we are a small community we can try things that are a bit too radical for bigger coin like Monero. Stay tuned and please keep the ideas flowing!

BTW, in response to the comments about including a non-anonymous coin in a wallet, that is not necessary since cryptonote can also be used non-anonymously. Transparency and audit features, when desired, are part of the protocol.

I'm not looking for any donations, but we can set up a fund to pay for future services such as hosting a web site, bounties, etc. This is not to discourage other volunteers from personally accepting donations at all. In fact, I would encourage it if it means more participation.

I will make an announcement about a project donations fund in a few days when I start a new thread if the previous developer hasn't yet turned over access to this one.

In the event this thread is locked please PM me for a link to the new thread

Nice catch, it's confusing.
