Just a reminder to everyone, when the alpha download link finally arrives, please do not post your NEM addresses in this forum, instead use PMs or put your address in signature.
You can also join us on IRC channel (link is in OP) and post your address there.

I'm also going to be distributing my NEM as much and as for long as I can. Just PM me with address.

Also don't forget to sync your PC clock so that it is accurate.

GL:HF everyone

"A Community-Oriented 2nd-Generation Cryptocurrency, With Philosophies of Financial Freedom, Decentralization, and Equality of Opportunity."

Open Alpha Updates and Discussion

Details - How to get involved

Current open alpha requires some manual work. We’re waiting for certificate to have Java WebStart ready and make it a one-click install.

**NEM requires Java 8**.

We've added simple one-line script for windows users.

As you know NEM is split into two parts NIS and NCC.

If you want to run NIS only (i.e. headless mode on some linux server),
you can, but that won't be very spectacular (mostly bunch of logs going through the screen).

If you want to run both, first start NIS, wait until you see something like:

Code:
10:47:02 INFO FrameworkServlet 'Spring MVC Dispatcher Servlet': initialization completed in 3213 ms (org.springframework.web.servlet.DispatcherServlet initServletBean)

then you can run NCC, **Read carefully next paragraphs**.

NCC interface is present under: http://localhost:8989/ncc/web/index.html

NIS must be BOOTED, until that's done you will NOT be part of network.

Booting can be done in two ways. Both require a name and private key. Name can be anything, it would be best if you use your nicknames; key currently can be ANY key, it **does NOT have** to be key for your account!

Two ways to boot:

  • from NCC, when you **sign in**, in upper right corner there's a menu. In that menu there's "BOOT LOCAL NODE", you must provide name (key will be selected automatically)
  • in headless mode, you can use provided nis_headless_boot.py script (python 2.7), it requires requests lib: http://docs.python-requests.org/en/latest/ (on debian based distro it should be in python-requests package)

If you're running headless mode, I'll post second card, describing what you can do.

I'll start sending some random transactions, if you'll receive it, you can share the details.

Important: to add your PRIVATE KEY to the wallet, go to menu, and use "Add existing account", Accounts inside the wallet are displayed on the left side.

If you switch to given account in "main menu", you can "set it as primary account".

Also, don't forget to sync your computer's clock. Smiley

DOWNLOAD: http://bob.nem.ninja

P.S. If you see some "strange" transactions, where there is NO sender, it's most likely reward for harvesting a block

P.P.S Currently UI displays 0 for rewards(but you still get rewards for harvested blocks).

CHECKSUMS

Code:

Hi I'm new here. I read about hem from local national bitcoinforum. I actually managed to get my hands on 0.1 stake with nextcoin already. Now I would like to ask how many more stakes will be auctioned later? If there are hundreds and hundreds of them the price may not maybe be that high in the auction..

NEM Alpha on Mac OS X / Linux

Install Java 8. Check java -version via Terminal, it should return 1.8. If it doesn't you need to set a symlink to your new version.

=> set symlink on Mac OS X:
Code:
sudo ln -fs "/Library/Internet Plug-Ins/JavaAppletPlugin.plugin/Contents/Home/bin/java" /usr/bin/java
Confirm by typing java -version again, should return 1.8.

1. Download latest release from http://bob.nem.ninja
2. unpack and cd to package; set permissions:
Code:
chmod +x nix.runNis.sh && chmod +x nix.runNcc.sh
3. first launch Nis
Code:
./nix.runNis.sh
4. open new terminal window, cd to package dir and launch Ncc
Code:
./nix.runNcc.sh
5. head over to http://localhost:8989/ncc/web/index.html
6. click on the arrow next to your username (top right corner), boot local node

Enjoy Alpha

Java 8 download here: http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/java/javase/downloads/jdk8-downloads-2133151.html

Then install it and download the NEM alpha. Then follow the instructions for alpha.
If you get stuck, ask!

How do you claim your stake?

Hi Patel, Open Alpha is testNEM. If you mean claiming the NEMstake on NXT AE now, see this:

To claim nemstake, send a request with your NXT address to patmast3r, he's issuing the nemstakes on NXT AE.

Reminder: you have to send 1 NXT to NXT-97MX-EWKV-CGKX-DA5WH first which is necessary condition to transfer the asset to your account.

I installed Java SE 8 runtime, but don't seem to use this version. How can i select the version used in my terminal?

In my console i get
java -version:
java version "1.7.0_51"
Java(TM) SE Runtime Environment (build 1.7.0_51-b13)
Java HotSpot(TM) 64-Bit Server VM (build 24.51-b03, mixed mode)

Whats wrong?
