Well I guess since these cant overclock ( yet ) it's a mute point,
Thanks

Has anyone identified the sub par part that they used ?

DC Voltage regulator Ti TPS53355...30A ... Wink

ZiG

The Part is OK...the engineering / design is SUB PAR... Grin

Well I guess that's the reason THEY didn't fix it..
I'm sure someone will start a cottage industry soon to modify these things and get them back on track.
After all everybody that bought them was planning on starting their overclock from 478

not every one of us wants to overclock  the first 2 I purchased  I planned to downclock to 400-430 gh.

I had a reason for this.  I can run up to 800 watts at a friends office .. It must be quiet .

So 2 machines clocked to 212.5  give me about 860gh  pull about  630-640 watts and run quietly.

The power cost for these machines = about 3 cents a k-watt

So the batch 1 buy and quality was perfect in my case.

I also earned coupons.  that I will spend for batch 4 .  I want to overclock them!!   I want to get 500gh for 380=400 watts.
So far the first buy was good for anyone that had a power limit and noise issue.

I am scouting for a few other spots to set my gear up other then my garage (batch 4  goes in the garage)

According to NIST and ECRYPT II, the cryptographic algorithms used in Bitcoin are expected to be strong until at least 2030. (After that, it will not be too difficult to transition to different algorithms.)

People who say anything about not meeting ROI are ignorant. How can you comment on ROI when you have no idea what the cost of bitcoin will be next week, next month, etc.

mpark the proper way to factor ROI on any miner actually doesn't involve the conversion price of BTC to some other random currency.  If you pay XBTC for a miner and in it's life it generates >X (plus costs) then the miner profited.  If you buy a miner for 1BTC when it's at say $500 and it makes .5BTC but the coin doubles to $1k have you broken even?  If you believe you have you are allowing yourself to be blinded.

... is there anything that ROI in BTC?... dont see much of a future for home mining... just for manufacturers.

what if bought the btc to buy the miner. lol you guys kill me

Everybody has their own plans ,I was hoping to overclock the heck out of them to take advantage of the present difficulty factor which I'm afraid will begin to soar once all the new machines hit the network.
My S1's will soon have to be underclock to remain profitable so I was hoping for a big boost from mu S3's.

People who say anything about not meeting ROI are ignorant. How can you comment on ROI when you have no idea what the cost of bitcoin will be next week, next month, etc.

Terrible way to look at anything.  Just because you don't know things to certain doesn't mean you should be analytical and use the best data available to make a thoughtful decision.

Dont mistake not knowing everything with not knowing anything.

The cost of bitcoin has nothing to do with ROI, unless you pay in dollars.

It is relatively simple. over a period of time t, you spend x bitcoins on electricity, you make y bitcoins, and you spend z bitcoins on the purchase.

Then if  y - x > z you have ROI, if y -x = z break even, and if z > y -x over a period t you have a loss.
t is usually 6 weeks.

if you take electricity out of the equation it is even simpler, for roi to occur in a given period of time y > z it is that simple.

to calculate y you can use any calculator that takes into consideration the difficulty increases.

so if bitcoin goes to a 10000, it has nothing to do with roi, since the miner is being being purchased in bitcoins.

the S3 is borderline, it may not roi if difficulty increases at current rate, and since we do not yet know the price of next batch of S3 it will all depend on the price given for the S3, most other miners do not ROI. pre orders do not ROI since it is very difficult tu calculate the difficulty 6 month in advance, or a year in advance. BFL takes over a year to deliver, KNC over half a year from time of order, most take several months situation which is not acceptable.

Since the S3 is selling out at current price, my prediction is that it will not roi by a small margin, until sales slow down then it may be priced at a price in which it may ROI or maybe not since bitmain could start mining themselves. that is why it is very important to support vendors that do not mine themselves and do not have pre orders, currently that does not exist, but in near future it could be a reality.

I bought three Antminer S3 and so have three coupons worth 0.074 BTC each. Will I be able to apply all of them to the purchase of one more device, or is it a one-coupon-per-purchase deal?

According to Bitmain it's one coupon per miner. So if you buy three more miners you can use your three coupons.

Hi.. sorry for asking the question here but I have not been able to get a clear answer. If I order from Coining Solutions today when will the S#'s ship out? Will they ship on Monday -in other words do you have them in hand or would I be waiting for you to receive them and then subsequently ship them out to me?

Dogie's comprehensive setup guide now up in super HD!

Thanks for this. Very helpful!

I was wondering why my PSUs did not turn on. Wasn't aware of the need to jumper it. I guess I missed that if it was covered in this thread.

Now if my batch 3 units would just ship...

I would say a scathing insult about using paperclips.  But it is your gear and your money.

 I won't use paper clips.
 I won't use server psu's.

same reason for  either of the above. shock/short hazard.

I sale my gear used and tested on ebay or to local miners.

So I don't sell gear that has short/shock hazards.

Oh the scathing insult is don't be "stupid cheap"   or better known as :  "pennywise pound foolish"  and those paperclips would fit that bill.  as would the server psu's in any home with kids or pets.

How would server PSUs in any way be dangerous? If anything they are safer due to much higher build quality and higher quality components.

In case of modular PSU do i need to connect the papercllip togheter in any case? How can i do in a batter way?
You'll still need to connect the paperclip, yes.  I believe Minersource has a "Jumpstart" kit that has a toggle switch, but you would have to decide if that's a better way.

The EVGA 1300's are now shipping with a 24 pin snap connector with the correct 2 pins jumpered for us miners.

the break out boards have exposed  solder points  crossing a neg to a positive is possible.

this board is a shock hazard
