Which one of these PSU(800 to 850 W) will you buy? As im not going to OC because im fine with default GH/s and temperature and Power consume, with 800 or 850 W better, i can power up 2 S3.

So here are the possible ones:

http://www.pccomponentes.com/fuentes_alimentacion/800w/850w/

Just has to be less than 100 Eur. i know there are very good PSU and they cost more than 100 Eur but i dont want to spend that much if they just work fine.

thanks!

cgminer   3.12.0-1

Is it possible to update Cgminer outside of the Bitmain firmware updates?

yes there's a couple ways you could do it:

1. download someone else's compiled upgraded version. (Haven't seen one for the S3 yet)
2. install the build env on the S3, and compile your own. very slow CPU in S3, will take a long while. (400mhz Atheros AR9330)
3. install a build-env on a machine with lots more CPU (linux box) and cross-compile. Will likely need custom source for Bitmain custom USB driver as well.

Since I have quite a few of the S3's, I'd like to do #3, but I haven't found a build env for it yet.

Details : OpenWRT -- BARRIER BREAKER (Bleeding Edge, r38031)

Bought two more S3's from Batch 5 this morning but soon after got a message from Bitmain saying:

"You have bought B1~B3 of S3. We will issue you a 10% value coupon. However, you have the option to give up the coupon and apply a 7.7% refund..."

But I bought from Batch 5 - any ideas on this one..??

 1) yeah take the coupon and use it to buy more from batch 5.
 2) maybe batch 5 is going to issue coupons.
 3) did you only order from batch 5 no 1 ,2, 3 or 4?

lastly has anyone only ordered from batch 5?  if so did they get a coupon sent.

I have only ordered from batch 5, and have received the same message after my payment was confirmed.  I assume it is just a default message that they have up and pops up to anyone who orders, probably not getting that coupon, but I would assume they will start giving out coupons like they did for S1's eventually.

I had a lot of difficulty getting my S3's to join my pool however it seems that enabling DHCP from static ip or vice versa acts like a kick start…
Weird thing is I can't connect to my ELIGIUS pool but bitminter works fine:
Also check out the DNS server address Huh?

I bought from B4 and then B5 today, didn't receive any messages from the B4 order... I think you could be right, that it's a wrong or default message that's come up for some reason, as I don't have any coupons either..! :0)

Those of us who opted for a 7.7% refund on our B1-B3 S3 purchases, why have we not received the refund in our BTC wallets yet?  When we buy Antminers Bitcointech expect payment to reach them within an hour.

I connect to Eligius fine on both my S3s (on newest firmware). Your DNS might be blocking you don't use 75.75.75.75, for DNS I just used 8.8.8.8 (Googles DNS)

Yea, good catch. I am sure there is something with the security of that 75.x.x.x DNS blocking something. OpenDNS also does something like this, they restrict things to "help" with security.

I did:
8.8.8.8
8.8.4.4
4.2.2.2 (Verizon's very stable and good to use)

Also I forced a change to the ip to my network of 10.0.0.1 do you think that causes any issues?

As long as you really are on a 10.0.0.x network it is no issue. If you change anything related to IP, I would reboot the miner. I had set my gateway wrong, and it didn't take until I physically rebooted the miner.

Wish I could buy one of these but as a poor university student I definitely can't. My tuition of $4,800 could definitely buy some mining power.. Lol

If you live in a dorm with "FREE" electricity, you might be able to work a deal with someone. You host their miners and you get a cut of the earnings.  Grin

When my son goes back to school in August, I'm sending him my S1's to run for me in his dorm room.
Stealing from our universities!  Brilliant.  That is an excellent lesson to teach your kids.

You know those universities and all of society still have to pay for that electricity and that consumption takes away from other areas the university could use the funds?  That electricity does not just come free out of thin air.  It really has to be paid for.  Just because it is hard to account for this consumption doesn't mean it is somehow 'free'.

Is burdening our universities with this extra expense really worth the few pennies in bitcoin you will receive?  The one part of society that can least afford loss of resources is our educational system.

What a dick.

I invite the entire bitcoin hashing community to call out this bad and criminal behavior of using other people's 'free' electricity.  This is mere theft of a profoundly irresponsible nature.  Please stop stealing electricity for hashing.

Trying to locate a single "x" on my s3.

Chain 1    oooooooo oooooooo
Chain 2    oooooooo xooooooo

I'm guessing the chain 2 is the board to the left when looking at the front of the ant.  The front being where you plug in the Ethernet cord.
On that board the x is top and just right of center?

No thanks is needed, but you see my BTC address below? Just kidding, ha-ha-ha... Yea, I think 75.x.x.x is Comcast? 4.2.2.2 or ,8.8.4.4, 8.8.8.8 don't block anything. I am very afraid to use just any DNS, sometimes they even block things like certificates.  Good job!

I don't see it that way. I see it as part of the risk if you offer paid utilities to someone. The rental agreement should include provisions to restrict or prohibit mining if the "landlord" doesn't want to pay for mining (or grow lamps, for that matter) as part of the electric.

I just recall my dormroom 20 years ago and I (and a roommate) could never have put up with the noise and heat from an S1 for more than 5 minutes.

What does a - mean in the ASIC status?  My ASIC status on second S3 is now:

00000000 00000000
00000000 00000-00

How do you identify which chip it is?
