Question for you S3 owners.

What is considered the "overclocked" speeds that require 4 PCI-e connectors?

Many power supplies are a pain now a days, I don't know what to do if I plan on running 2 off one PSU because 8PCI-E cables is really not the norm.

On the Supernova 1300 G2 by EVGA it has 6 PCI-E 8pins, and not enough molex to do a molex to pci-e adaptor. Also curious what kind of PSU you all are using for these units.

Any advice will be great, thanks in advance!

the evga has six cables  4 single cables and 2 double cables……

you can use 2 single cables and a double cable filling all 4 jacks.

Been there done that.

As for overclock  225 237 250 = overclock.

My best guess would be above 504 GH as this is the original speed of the S3 before they started mass production.
The specs stated that only 2 connections were required and that the additional 2 were for overclocking.

I think you're about to be scammed, dude.

well this is the weird bit, they are saying I can have the refund if I want but will obviously loose my pre-order. Not sure if I should just wait until 31st July and see if they come through or just ask for refund now. I got nothing to lose at the moment as I have time to escalate the dispute with Paypal and the seller has been responding to my messages so have been cooperative.

Refund.  Wait for Bitmaintech to sell Batch 4 and order at that time like everyone else.  Remove the middle man.  Get your order direct from the source, and lose any doubt you have about it being a scam.

yeah but what if they are an honest seller? All I am doing then is losing spot in the queue, waiting for refunds to be done and then trying to order another unit form someone else weeks later.

They aren't an HONEST reseller. They are promising times of shipping that BITMAIN can't even promise, nobody has heard a word from BITMAIN in days regarding shipping yet this copycat company knows  Roll Eyes - why on earth would you trust them?

Well I asked for a refund which they promptly did so that’s nice.

Its really hard to know in this wild wild west if they are a scam or not. I replied to them and thanked them and also suggested they should have reps on forums like this one to spread a good word about their company and instil confidence in potential buyers minds.

So I possibly lost a spot and now have to wait for refund to hit my CC which might take a while.

Can someone recommend other reputable sellers that sell the Antminer S3 ? Preferable in Asia e.g. Hong Kong for quicker shipping?

I'd just order from BitMain at bitmaintech.com/product.htm. They're based in Shenzhen and they will get you Batch 4 quicker than anyone since they produce them. We can all vouch for them. They are one of the very few manufacturers that are decent. The vast majority of them are scammers or quickly turn into them.

Can you say HashFast?

Got the email that my first 2 B2 orders shipped.
Order Date: 2014-07-02 06:32:18 (paid for within minutes).
Order on website listed as "shipped".
Opted for the refund, that is still listed as "Init".

Right on schedule.

Orders of magnitude better than Butt F*&^%$g Laboratory (BFL).

Right ON Bitmain!

I was Batch 1 and did not get my Tracking number until the 20th. Did not arrive until Today. Seems I was on the ass end of that deal lol.

The only issue with ordering directly from Bitmain is that they don't take PayPal, only Bec and I don't have any since I am new to this. Plus PayPal is very easy to use.

Gee you are very helpful, thank you!

There are several guides and exchanges where you can get your bitcoin. The mining forum isn´t really the best place to start (although some mining companies do take $)

That's why I just wanted to buy with PayPal as it's my first miner and I just want to have bit fun and not too serious about getting into bit coins buying and selling at this stage.

Thanks.

You'll have to transfer your fiat to an exchange like btc-e.com or bitstamp.net. They take wire transfers from banks. Problem is that you are dealing in two different financial systems and one of them (the fiat world) doesn't make it easy to convert in the crypto currency world.

If your S3 is not performing at 440 GHs, may be worth a shot to re-flash it.

Download the firmware here:

https://bitmaintech.com/files/download/antMiner_S320140711.bin

This helped my underperforming miner, but it actually made my better performers start having x's and -'s Sad

There's always https://coinbase.com/ where you can purchase btc and they'll take it straight out of your fiat bank account, or you can add a credit card and get faster settlements for receiving your purchased btc. Once you have the btc you can then use it to buy direct from https://www.bitmaintech.com/ or other places accepting bitcoin such as newegg.com and many others. Bitcoin by the way is usually abbreviated "btc". Welcome to mining and have fun.

First time BM purchaser! Got my 8 S3s today, 7 run like champs around 441ish, although I have one that has a massive 25% HW errors, hashing at about 60-65% of what it should be doing. Any ideas?

http://s15.postimg.org/rfrh5roc9/S3limp.jpg

I'll suggest to flash firmware (without preserving settings) from bitmaintech webpage and see how it goes ...

Thanks for the tips, but still getting 25% HW errors and underperformance.

Following has been attempted:

Different PSU, cables. Flashed the firmware, still nothing. I inspected the unit, cross referencing it to one that works fine, and there were no discrepancies.

Going to contact Bitmain about a replacement, hopefully they'll make it right.

That is sort of the thing, 1300W psu to power 2 of these sucks! Is there a go-to power supply people have been using to power 2-3 2-4 of these things?

Just tell them it's a specialized computer to do complex math calculations, without a power supply. Hopefully that will be easier for them to understand.
