Not quite S1, but much hotter than S2's. Lab is steady 34 Celsius, with geo-thermal A/C cranking.

Almost the same power dissipation (watts) right? Close to? Regardless if it's an S1 or S33 350W of heat energy being dissipated in a sealed room will result in a sauna.  Smiley

The key is to move hot air out and cooler air in, which is easier said than done once you have 10kW in a small room I might add.

Yeah I draw the line in the lab @ 6KW, the 10KW circuit is best left to the DC. The S3's I have are all (but 1) running @ 440GH/s and drawing ~330Watts, with a steady temp of 42-44C. My S1's run 200GH/s drawing ~410Watts, with a steady temp of 51-53C. There is a wall that can be breached which sends the watts into heat figure over the top with the S1, S3's are NOT OC'able so the excessive watts into heat thing will not happen.

3 S3's received on the 17th. Set them all up with 750w PSU's of various sort.

First 24 hours all 3 OC'd to 250 mhz and getting about 500gh/s each. stoked!

After about 28 hours, notice one "x" on the first S3. Rebooted, went away for about ten minutes them returned. Average hashrate dropped to 470ghs. Set it down to 237.5, all "o" and getting about 475 ghs average, little more on poolside. I'lll take it!

A bit concerned that one has temps of 46 sometimes, during hotter times of the day. Is this too hot to maintain?

Ihave these temperatures as normal in the part of the world am located with normal settings so no worries

I am curious, why diff is 1.02K? Seems that 512 would be appropriate. Is this what is causing a gigantic discarded share numbers?

I am running 2 in a small office with Central AC and shut the door at night. Still cool when I come in in the morning. I couldn't run 1 S1 or S2 in the office as it was hot the next morn. I am the SE US.

This is quite interesting. One S3 is producing 340W equivalent of heat, so should be similar to S1. However, i noticed that airflow seems to release much less heat than s1, so the rest of the heat is probably irradiated as IR from the metal casings. Perhaps, there is a difference how it relates to A/C. For example, IR radiation might pass throw glass windows. It would be interesting to check if S3 is emitting on any other wavelengths. Energy has to dissipate somehow, and it is not just an airflow in S3.

You guys do realize that watts=thermal energy=heat (at least when talking electronics)?

Dogie's comprehensive setup guide now up in super HD!

Thanks for this. Very helpful!

I was wondering why my PSUs did not turn on. Wasn't aware of the need to jumper it. I guess I missed that if it was covered in this thread.

Now if my batch 3 units would just ship...

If you are usa based here is a good item on ebay

http://www.ebay.com/itm/261302980079?_trksid=p2059210.m2749.l2649&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT

I purchased about ten of them from him.

Phill...you are funny some times... Grin

..."If you are usa based here is a good item on ebay" ...Office Depot...

http://www.officedepot.com/a/products/966945/OIC-No-1-Paper-Clips-Standard/

Good for a 100 PSU's...  Wink

Cheers,

ZiG

I would say a scathing insult about using paperclips.  But it is your gear and your money.

 I won't use paper clips.
 I won't use server psu's.

same reason for  either of the above. shock/short hazard.

I sale my gear used and tested on ebay or to local miners.

So I don't sell gear that has short/shock hazards.

Oh the scathing insult is don't be "stupid cheap"   or better known as :  "pennywise pound foolish"  and those paperclips would fit that bill.  as would the server psu's in any home with kids or pets.

I think there is a slight misunderstanding here:

1) Phil resells some fraction of his stuff, so he uses something that has a veneer of being CE, UL compliant because he will sell to noobs. There is no need to dump on his method.

2) The paper clip shorting plug solution is functionally ok. With a pair of wire cutters you can get 2 - 4 "shorting plugs". If you are worried about shorting something out, cut a 1" length of electrical tape and cover or if you want to go broadway, couldn't you urethane coat the exposed part.

I'm a paperclip person because it's fast, reliable and cheap for me.

Number 1) is why I don't use paperclips.  It is also why I don't use the server psu's.

_______________________________________________________________________________ ____________________
If I mined my gear exclusively  until it died I would use paperclips.

I still would not use the server psu with a breakout board. A   simple explanation  for me  I max at 8 to 10 s-1's or s-3's.

Evga 1300 watt,  seasonic 1000 watt plat seasonic 750 watt plat all have really long warranties.

I have been mining for 28-30 months.  They pay off in under a year as they all use less power then the server psu's.

If the mining game fully dies I will use the psu's in pc builds

I have had the seasonic plats for a while started using them  with my gpus.  they are paid off  in power savings. The evga won't pay off for about 5 more months.

Bloody hell....  I can't keep up with this thread!!   Grin

Miss one day is like missing a year, yikes!  Anyways...

Well at least you used paypal... They tend to side with buyer in this case.

so should I just file a dispute now ? Wont they just try to contact the seller who will say, they item is not for sale until 30/7 so wait ?

damn I feel bit foolish now !

better dispute already i think

That's the downside with a pre-order market, scams are so easy and innocent.

You should capture the PayPal email you sent cash to and google it to see if there were previous complaints.

Contact the seller itself, PP will think you're a joker looking for a freeride if you don't even do that.

All you need to tell PayPal is that this seller is impersonating the Manufacturer's website, aren't an authorized reseller and you want your money back so you can buy from the manufacturer.

You can also, and SHOULD ALWAYS google a domain name (websitename.com) + words like "scam" or "complaints" and you can usually find some real experiences.

Watch for fake reviews too, they just look WAY too generic.

If you can do it, get your CC to reverse the transaction as it is a "Deceptive Domain Name" used, trying to act as the manufacturer, with whom there is no relatoinship.

(Forgive me if I'm wrong but I doubt it)

Anyone who has any sort of "financial authority" will be mimic'ed; that's why you need authorization to obtain domains with the word "bank" in it. (Seriously)

Since Bitman doesn't try to get itself ranked #1 for their popular keywords, other crooked webmasters will fill in their short comings and profit in deceptive ways.

I hope you didn't get scammed buddy but if you did, I hope you'll learn a lesson... I hope you learn one if you don't lost your $$$

This is the Wild Wild West of finance; people without a conscience will profit from those who don't believe anyone would do such dishonesty.

Most of us who love God wouldn't do such a crime against him; but not everyone thinks like this.

NOTE: PayPal does not always side with the buyer even if the seller is not good on their advertised claims.  PayPal loves money more than you.

Such as a money back guarantee that isn't being honored on a digital product, PayPal doesn't back/warrant ANY digital product.

Not long ago, few weeks at best, there was a fella who was ripped off by like 19BTC who impersonated Waldohoover...

Seriously, not many will feel bad for you because you should know better; it's not a market for impulse buyers and this has been proven time and time again.

There are also people who will try to claim they made a "huge buy" hoping the manufacturer will compensate them even with 1 unit; success for free?

Those who will do best in mining are those who have patience and take mathematically inclined decisions; not impulse.

You can't be a linear thinker in this game, it's a war game, a nasty one, fought with deception and information.

Do you know of how much money the 1840's miners got ripped off out of?  Would be billions today.

Some of the biggest earners were the gold buyers making 3-5 times their paper investment.

The miners didn't know math nor weight measurements and trusted the dealer; others were blatantly handed counterfeit paper.

Your enemy thinks: "If they don't care for their money enough that they won't even do any research, I'll shamelessly take it, LMFAO and Thank/F*** you..."

Start by contacting the seller, wait 72 hours for a reply.

Take your money back REGARDLESS don't take credit, altCoin, money order, nothing else but a refund.

After 45-60 days you can no longer file for refund with your card company.

Wait for Bitmain Tech to re-open sales =D (Hint Hint Bitmain lol)

Not sure if you need to buy exclusively with coin on Bitmain's website but buying coin with CC/PP is rather tough.

You'll need to sign up to an exchange, get verified (KYC) if you want to buy with fiat.

Or find a member here willing to sell coin to you for PP or CC - Marketplace > Services - Find someone that does PP / CC transactions.

You might get lucky on Local Coins too.

Best of luck, I hope you get your money back!

What if you buy $80,000 worth of s3 I'd have around 66TH/S in power.
Since I don't pay for electricity I'd get my ROI in about 71 days and make about 300k in one year...? Why isn't everyone doing this.. Lol

First 24 hours all 3 OC'd to 250 mhz and getting about 500gh/s each. stoked!

I had the same issue with S1 and S3 units using the same worker, then I made another worker for my S3 units that took it back down to 512. The pool I am at only allows for min settings not max diff settings. I was looking at an option to include in the startup. Maybe someone here with more experience can elaborate.

There is a difference between not paying electricity and having infinite electricity. Your lease might provide you with free utilities but don't think that they'll let you use over a $1000 in electricity per month.

I don't think that they have any available now (with ebay exception) until the batch 4 is open.

Even if you were able get enough free electricity and cooling for that much hashpower, the numbers still don't add up.  At 35% increase per month, in a year you'll be about 55k in the black.
