Good Morning Guys - I did start a thread but was advised to post it in here I wish my first post wasn't a "problem" post but like so many, I found your site looking for some rhyme or reason as to the behaviour of my nice new Antminer S3+ (batch 9) Set it up last night and all was good - hashing away at about 430-450 Gh/s as expected. Came to look at it this morning and is seems to be cuttin out all together, suddenly coming back to life as the right speed then 10 minutes later dropping off to zero before restarting again. This is after about 12 hours continuous running if that helps? Now, I also have an Antminer S1 running and another S3 running elsewhere, both of which are behaving as they should which rules out the mining pool. I know the configuration within the unit must be right or it wouldn't be mining at all which again, rules that out. I have this set up with an Aerocool Intergrator 600W +80W PSU ( http://www.yoyotech.co.uk//600w-aerocool-integrator-psu-12cm-black-fan-active-pfc-tw-caps-acp-i600hg?var=17061&utm_source=google&utm_medium=shopping&utm_campaign=purenet_feed&gclid=CjwKEAjwk_OhBRD06abu3qSoxlwSJACt7sZ7tSqC2-7sGpNzjoxnE81zZt-dVNcJPLOx-qGd8E5SPRoCLN3w_wcB) using the daisy chained connector. Could this be causing an abnormal load on the PSU? Would it work better if the individual plugs were used? I am also hardwired into an Ethernet Hub so no wireless connection issues. I have purposefully positioned it so it has a clear air path all around (I work in building services so understand that in order to maximise cooling, there needs to be open air around all sides, similar to a water to air heat exhanger). Can anyone shed any light on this as I need to get this running properly obviously? Thanks I had similar issues when i used a daisy chain connector on my PSU and had to use individual connectors, however it was my power supply that was cutting off and on when i did that and not my antminer. Worth a shot though I guess.

It appears that PSU is a crock of turd Plugged in my other PSU - A Viper Powercool 500W +80 Bronze for reference - And it is working perfectly..... Odd I thought So I attempted to fire up the S1 using the Aerocool PSU....Booted up OK but as soon as it tried to hash, the PSU cut out So I have now ordered another Viper PSU - stick with what you know works

Might wanna do that before spending more money on a PSU that you might not need

Now that the Bitcoin price is recovering, you think Bitmain will give us free shipping on the Batch 10 S3s?

Not sure it was ever "free" just added into the price. You want it added back in again, I get it... I guess.

I tried looking, but there is just so many post to go through.
Is it possible to load this antMiner_S320140826.bin firmware pre s3+?
Its not very clear on the bitmain support page.

Yes, the firmware for S3 and S3+ are compatible, however, for S3, after upgrading the firmware, PLEASE SELECT 218.75 Frequency from Miner Config Tab, Advanced Setting Page. I tried looking, but there is just so many post to go through.

I'm looking to undervolt my S3, is it possible to go lower than 218.75. I was thinking closer to 150. Do you know if that will be an issue?

you can under-clock it but please use caution. Default setting is 218.75 for S3 I'm looking to undervolt my S3, is it possible to go lower than 218.75. I was thinking closer to 150. Do you know if that will be an issue?

Wondering if anyone has any data on this regarding X's on the ASIC boards.
If you get say 2 X's on an S3+ on every clock speed above 225... Is it better to run at 225 with no X's or 250 with 2?
Thanks,
Strato

calculate how much you get/mo (40Gh only produces 0.14/day right now) vs how much it costs. If your electricity cost is $0.11/KWh, then you will use ~$3.2 extra/mo for extra 40W (250mhz vs 225mhz) So, if you get 468GH vs 453Gh, then it is probably not worth it (it will get you only $1.6 extra while using $3.2 more of electricity). I did not take into account potential savings on heating the house if it is cold already in your area. However, I think either way it would not make much of a difference, if any.

I'll give that a go when I get back.....I know one of the fans is certainly pushing (the opposite end to the Ethernet port)
If I find them both pushing, rather than the other one pulling air into the unit, is it as simple as reversing the connector?
you flip the fan. the fans show their direction of flow on one of the sides.

I tried a 700watt coolmax and it couldnt power an S1 even though the specs claimed it could deliver the amps, it would just panic and shut down....

Not sure it was ever "free" just added into the price. You want it added back in again, I get it... I guess. if added in means the S3 batch 9 was .57 with free s/h and now batch 10 is .57 not including s/h

i'de redo the heat sink compound. NON CONDUCTIVE. I bet the X's ones are lacking

You want to aim for zero X's. If you get an X at a certain clock setting, select the next one down until you don't get X's any more. In some tests I've done, overclocking the unit, with the aim for highest hash rate overall per unit, will not make up for the loss of a single X'd out chip vs a lower clock with no X's. To answer your question, it would be preferable to run at 225 vs 250. You're needlessly burning more power at 250 without any benefit with two X's showing. As bspurloc mentioned, it's advisable to re-apply a better non conductive thermal compound. I've had decent results with cheap and readily available Arctic Silver Alumina on a couple of my underperforming S3's.
