Hello BURST community !!

Can anyone please guide me on how to create a custom burn address?

Will appreciate your kind help.

http://wiki.burstcoin.de/index.php?title=FAQ

If vandalay really meant a burn address this would not help completely, as he would have access to it.
Well, at least I would not trust a burn address like that, just send coins to genesis acc

Can you please elaborate on the genesis account?
I know it exists for NXT as well

how is it provably unspendable?
and what is the public key of the BURST gen account?

You guys are sure it works in Burst as well?  I could see burstdev having removed it and it just being a regular account.. which has a known password.

You should probably test it by sending a couple Burst there before using it as a Burn address.

Genesis address is BURST-NU58-Z4QR-XXKE-94DHH
It's pubkey is 0000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000

really anything that entirely has numeric meaning(unlikely to have a pubkey found by chance would work)

iirc account 0 is BURST-2222-2222-2222-22222, so that works nicely also.

unlike NXT or HZ (clone of NXT), BURST genesis account doesn't have a negative balance.
with negative balance, you have an easy proof of burning coins.

So how can one use BURST genesis account to burn coins?

This is due to the fact that both HZ and NXT are 100% premined. Their genesis accounts started out with a balance of 0, therefore when they sent out the premine coins the accounts ended up with negative balances. IIRC NXT is hardcoded to reject transactions coming from accounts with negative balances so this provides an effective way of burning even if the passphrases to access them are known.

As both mczarnek and the dev pointed out, anything that is sufficiently unlikely to have a key found can dub as a burn address in BURST (maybe not for the extremely paranoid Cheesy).
I apologize for thinking of the genesis account first, as you might argue it does not perform the function as well as it does in other 'NXT' coins. During one discussion the dev mentioned destroying assets by sending them to the genesis account, so I thought it performs the same function as in other 'NXT' coins.

This mistake of mine illustrates my initial point to some extent though Cheesy. I would not send my coins to a randomly looking account someone posts in this thread (or anywhere else) and claims 'This is a burn address'. Always approach posts with a healthy dose of caution Smiley

Now that this is clear,

Can anyone here create such a burn address? should contain as many consecutive X's as possible an a valid checksum.

Cheers

Still getting this problem. I reverted to 319 for the time being.

Weird enough, even though I wasn't hashing faster on 401, I was finding a LOT more blocks. Maybe just coincidence, but it seems as though there is a bug in the current version (319) that severely hampers my ability to find blocks. I've been mining on a pool for some time now, so it doesn't really affect me, but I'm sure doesn't help the pool I'm supposed to be 'contributing' to.

12 days w/o crashes for me... using 401

Try setup "ShowWinner" : false

Still happening with winner being false.
set "UseCleanMem" : false
it worked for me, so far 3 days w/o crashes

I was using memclean false on all my machines to begin with. I am running them as admin though.

Just a bump, it appears as though running as a normal user instead of admin fixes this. Which means it has something to do with the memclean feature, which doesn't work unless you run as admin. Setting memclean false doesn't fix this nor does it properly stop memclean from working.

I buy private Nvidia miners. Send information and/or inquiries to my PM box.

like i posted some month ago i am working on a indexed mysql blockchain copy.
i made some proceedings and have a initial set of more or less useful queries (depending on what you want to look for).
everything which is put into mysql is aquired by curl in php utilizing the wallet api.

at the current development state there are no validity checks for what the wallet provides implemented.
there exist only two main tables. one with the blocks and one with every tx included in these blocks.
block payloads like messages are not transfered into mysql but can easily be added.
i am no web developer who can create a funky webinterfaces to access the data but if anyone wants to make use of it i can share the php scripts and mysql schema.

new usecases i can currently think of are these:
-monitor multiple mining accounts
-monitor certain addresses like ATs or exchange hotwallets
-utilize the db backend to distribute cpu load and miner traffic over several server for mining pools in future (block signatures are currently not included)
-detect forks (after the wallet decided to switch to another)
-create any kind of "triggers" for events on the blockchain

the last one is probably the most powerful usecase since this enables you to do almost anything offchain you can think of (like activating user accounts for websites after items were purchased or send out emails if you mined a block)

-[Quick ANN Burst.ninja pool]-

There seems to be some graphical glitch on the pie charts at the moment, having the dev take a look when he wakes up. I don't believe it is affecting anything but the visual parts of the pies. I have restarted the back end of the pool to make sure everything runs correctly. I will post again when the issue is taken care of. Thanks!

about 6TB, so it really just comes down to amount of storage?

Its all about your amount of storage. More storage -> lower deadlines -> more blocks found.

17 hrs is pretty good for 6TB, on average you will be at around a week.

Deadlines are lottery tickets. More storage, the more tickets. You get better deadlines if you're lucky. More tickets = higher chance of being lucky.

Something people don't really explain well if you're new to burst. A deadline isn't a 'hash value'.

BURST-0000-0000-0000-0000

That is a burn address.  Could you swap that BTC into burst and send it to the address in my sig?  Thanks!

Good point.. This should be valid though:

Here's the closest to a burn address I got:

BURST-BURN-BURN-3URN-EURNE

It's what the 1.2.2 wallet proposed when I entered BURST-BURN-BURN-BURN-BURNE in the recipient field. It seems to have a valid checksum. I can't prove it's a burn address and I don't know how difficult it would be to generate a valid password for it, but it seems to be a good fit until someone generates a password for it.
