The name doesn't differentiate the product or describe what it is. Burst needs a name change.

The term "Capacity" is ambiguous. Proof of Memory makes more sense.

Change these two things and more people will join.

It's a harddrive coin not a RAM coin.

Proof of Capacity is a more accurate description though, the more hard drives capacity you have, the more you mine.  Right?

And there are other words that I could see.. but they all start with a 'S'.  And it'd be nice to not be POS or POW.

Kind of semantics, but there's not that much difference between a harddrive and RAM. You can load your whole OS in RAM and you can make RAM act like a HD. It's all 'capacity'.

Note it doesn't nessecarily have to be one word.. could be POHD.. proof of hard drive.  Or Proof of drive capacity or something.  Just something to think about.

I suspect Burst reflects the Bursts of energy when you are reading from the hard drive?  What kind of name would you go with?

Not convinced we need one,  I like Burst.  Btw, if you do find one you really, really like.. grab the domain names and hold on to them.  If you can get them cheap before someone squats on it,  I'm sure we could pay you back if we go with that name.

Look at Google and yahoo  and Microsoft,  etc, how many companies have a name that really represents them?

@bitladen keep in mind the largest account of Burst exactly matches percentage wise Satoshi's holding of total coin supply.

I own far too many BURST related domains to support brand change, not to mention people are starting to know BURST, and I'm pushing more than ever for the name to be recognized. There should NOT be a rebranding for the hell of it.

-[ANN]- A simplified way to create a new BURST account for beginners!

I wanted to do this since we have an official web wallet now... So people can get into BURST easily...

Follow the following steps to create a new BURST account!

1. Go to the official online wallet here... https://wallet.burst.city:8125

2. Click 'returning user'

3. Make up a long password, and type it out in a TXT doc, don't LOSE it!

4. Paste the password into the returning user login area.

5. You now have a BURST ID, and pubkey! Copy them both, and save them somewhere. This is your BURST wallet!

6. Go to a faucet, and/or message me, and I'll start you off with some coins.

7. Once you get the coins, send one coin to a random BURST address. Feel free to use mine, or the burst.ninja bonus payout addy @ BURST-NJNA-VMCX-2WTH-AJLQX

8. Your BURST wallet is now officially yours forever, all you have to do now is NOT LOSE YOUR PASSWORD.

Enjoy being part of the most technically advanced crypto coin to ever exist! Thank you!

@bitladen keep in mind the largest account of Burst exactly matches percentage wise Satoshi's holding of total coin supply.

You pretend you don't understand what I'm saying.
The bursts may be split within a few big holders, but what they all have in common is that they got the coins for way too cheap. This is because of the rapid pace of reward decrease. Also these coins were never sold, there wasn't enough volume on the market. So it's really cheap burst ready to dump.

I wouldn't mind if there are big holders, but the problem is there are big holders that can afford to dump at 10 satoshis and turn a profit. They got the coins too cheap.

With bitcoin it takes 4 years to half the block reward, and being the first coin, people didn't really expect it to skyrocket, so they kept selling the coins as time went. That's why it has a healthy market.

With burst you all wait for it to go to the moon, like bitcoin, but it's not going to happen, it's a different scenario here. The only way to save it is to increase the reward. I doubt this will end up making me a lot more btc, if you increase the reward, a lot more miners will join so the difficulty will rise, but it still interests me because it changes the balance of the coin holders. Miners get a chance to earn a decent % of the coin by mining it, and that will make the market healthy.  Sure, the price will go down, but the volume will go up, at the current volume you can't possibly expect to sell all your coins anyway, not even half. But increase the volume, and you may well be able to sell all your coins.

To you it appears that you lose soon to be millions worth of coins, but in reality, the price is going down, nobody is interested at the current state. Don't even argue about this! The market speaks for itself.

Don't listen to bitladen.. he's been trying to convince people that the Burst clone he's going to make will be better and scare people into dumping Burst Smiley

Actually maybe you should listen to bitladen and take those Burst off of him.

Short version:
Proof of Capacity is really nice because it's energy efficient (uses only 25% more energy than POS.. basically nothing but 30 times less energy than POW).

It is also ASIC resistant which means it'll be easier to acquire new coin holders over time as it should be profitable for every day people to mine and similar to a bucket, once they've invested a little bit, they are likely to buy more and use it.  It's also naturally more decentralized due to this ASIC resistance.

Also, Proof of Stake has some issues with it, there are no viable blockchain trimming algorithms at the moment.  Also you can not trustlessly point to a chain and prove it's correct because there are no difficult to create Proofs that let you trace it back to the genesis block.  And there are problems with the fact that everything relies on miners keeping their keys secret.

Long version (though this is a rewritten version of the paper and much shorter and to the point than the last version for other people!):
https://docs.google.com/document/d/1cLFDFqMP0hhD-5kngKCTZfXM6a24yDfhAbwdgL3BAsQ/edit?usp=sharing

Additionally, Burst has Automated transactions working, which are also known as smart contracts. First coin to get true smart contracts running, and they've been running for 4 or 5 months now.  Burst also has an asset exchange as well as a decentralized marketplace and messaging and all sorts of other goodies.  We've also got a few other features such as built in escrow, and subscription payments.

And there are some big plans for blockchain trimming and instant transactions and multi-sig and all sorts of stuff to come.  The core team of people working hard on this has grown to about 7 to 10 people.. then some others who are contributing to a lesser extent, because let's face it, everyone is busy with life.

By far the most undervalued coin out there.. but we're hoping to start marketing ourselves pretty heavily soon which should bring in more people.. we've barely marketed ourselves yet plus the initial heavy inflation has kept prices low.  Great time to get in, in my opinion.

And don't forget that AT enables Atomic Cross Chain Transfers (ACCT) - trustless cross block chain coin swaps.

Professor of crypto has arrived again

seems like something has moved (up) in the crypto landscape, could be because we got NSDAQ official index being traded in 1000+ Bloomberg terminals across the world

Professor of crypto says this is a very good sign, he also says (speaking as if the third party) "street" will get to know "geeks world" which is BURST to some degree, very few outside of bitcointalk understand this world, eventually it will make into the "street" and people will start asking question

"what is the difference between BURST and BTC" on much larger scale than Today.. so by that time BURST block reward will be less , but then cloud services will come to the rescue although at much higher price tags than let say buying few USB WD Tera drives as we have them Today

Professor of crypto says that even if a BURST clone is made who has the energy to keep it up

and example is cryptonight clones.. maaany were produced most are sitting idle nothing is happening, while Monero (which I don't have actually, just an example) took off

Professor of crypto says that there is not real recipe for success other than being persistent
