The Cannacoin Cryptocurrency Project, now "Cannacoin Core" and also introducing the new "Cannacoin" ERC-20 token, is a cryptocurrency protocol for the cannabis community, and was first deployed on March 28, 2014 on NWGT.org as a solution to the "cash only" predicament beset on growers, dispensaries, and consumers alike through Federal regulation was also a response to the Global Financial Crisis of 2008. It is the evolution of distributed computing and the BitTorrent protocol. It was the brainchild of the pseudonymous Subcreative, the founder of the popular, but now defunct, "NWGT.org" (Northwest Green Thumb) online medical cannabis forum based in the Pacific Northwest which grew from a simple CL encounter between medical marijuana patients to a lofty 50,000+ membership status at its peak. We were proudly among the first 100 or so "cryptocoins" deployed to the internet at large, and therefore the world, of all time. We are a fork of Litecoin with our own proprietary blockchain and were initially distributed under fair disbursement and proof-of work with no premine and no ICO.
As mentioned, Cannacoin Core(CCN) was proudly released under fair distribution with 0.00% pre-mine and no ICO to members of NWGT.org. Cannacoin expertly transitioned to "Proof of Stake" at block 370,000 on December 9th, 2014 with a nominal stake interest of 2.00% annually. There were 4,625,000 CCN minted during the "Proof of Work" phase. Cannacoin has a max supply of 13,140,000. As of this writing we are close to approaching 1M blocks.
We believe that the so-called "Drug War" initiated by DEA has been a complete and utter failure of our rights and civil liberties as well as a health crisis of monumental proportions. We understand that the prohibition of cannabis has led to the dreadful proliferation of deadly gangs and even more dangerous and deadly street drugs. It has also, in our belief, weakened the health of the general population by removing hemp from the food chain where it had been a staple for thousands of years nourishing our inborne cannabinoid system and balancing essential biological systems in our bodies.
Since 2014, Cannacoin Core has had no marked purpose other than to facilitate cannabis transactions, but that is going to change. We are now making a bold and move forward by deciding to update our operating policy to include the alignment of forces with the likes of NORML.org and MPAA.org for the expansion and support of cannabis law reform as a community service of paramount importance.
