So let's make a new prediction: We'll break 0.0043 this year.
I think that understates just how undervalued XMR is, and just how powerful Monero's position is in regards to securing an increasingly invincible marketcap. A lot of cryptocurrency speculators are still very much naive in respect of Monero's extraordinary backstory, the cryptography, and the demonstrable power of it's industrial community. But there has been a shift - a tangible sense that we are now in a prime position to occupy a space than can only really be matched by Bitcoin itself. The recent StackExchange victory proves that whatever the size of one's marketcap, it is the power of community, the egalitarian nature of the genesis, and the skill of the underlying codebase which are the real qualities that will carry projects forward without decline. Resistance at the 0.004-0.005 level may well be inevitable, but the speed and ferocity at which it is finally broken shouldn't be of any objective surprise. Thus, I wouldn't be surprised if we were toying with 0.0160 by years end. Either way, Monero now only has to double in value for it to be one place behind Dash on the marketcap. Consequently, and in conjunction with a perceived "Monero vs ZCash" conversation that will make Dash increasingly irrelevant, speculative and community leakage will pour massively into the Monero ecosystem and the levees will break. Without knowing it, suddenly Monero has a marketcap in excess of $100 million. Awesome neurolinguistics. Very clever.

You missed it. Maybe he is one of those that thinks that landing was faked. Remember the flag moving like there was wind on the Moon. It is interesting to see ZCash gained quite a lot, but BCash and LTC nothing while added to Gemini. Wonder if that is because ZCAsh is less stable ot because it is private focused coin.

Seems to me they were secretly mining their own ASICs then when the hardfork announcement came out they put them on the market, then removed their miners from the market and said they were "sold out" so there would be no backlash from ignorant buyers

Or the massive amounts in the Devs hands perhaps? The strategy of hardforking ASICs off of a network is going to lose potency the more it happens, because chip designers do have the ability to make chips that are flexible, anywhere from slightly flexible to highly flexible, with each piece of flexibility costing only a bit of performance. The Monero devs have committed to keeping the same general structure for the PoW algorithm, and because of that commitment we believe that you could make a Monero miner capable of surviving hard forks with less than a 5x hit to performance. I believe I have already stated this and added that is could be done with a fpga calling the asic chip as a simplistic example.

Is anyone here bullish in USD terms for this year?
For the first time since 2015 I’ve run out of hopium.
It just looks so bleak. 😔

Your capitulation makes me bullish. Every time when it was way too silent around Monero we peaked suddenly and very high.

It's the usual pump and dump that happens in all cryptocurrencies being traded in any exchange. BTC included. But you prolly already know that by now. What makes XMR special for me is, its code is not a BTC fork but it somehow follows the same path (or close to it at least) as BTC's general development.

I find it somewhat surprising and very gratifying that the hash rate has remained at levels where vulnerabilities due to variance are inconsequential, despite the price winter. It probably helps that most pump & dumps these days follow the pattern of PoS conversion which has been successful for past schemes, and thus do not attract so much persistent hash.

So what does that means? That Monero will not reach $300 in 2018 anymore? That is possible, but I would give it less then a 50% chance. Prices can move fast. No t that then stay that high or low. But they still do change fast and strong. After 2017 constant growth some retracement was needed. Longer this retracement will last stronger there will be momentum that will push price to upper level. Growth of Monero and Bitcoin was not that strong in 2017 as some other cryptocurrencies simply because they acted more as a currencies then as a speculative investment. That is why this retracement was waker compared to other coins.

The market was never going to just bottom out and go back up to December levels in a couple of months. That said, this isn't 2014. The amount of awareness, knowledge and infrastructure creation in crypto is huge. There is also a plethora of utterly terrible projects cluttering up the market, too. There must be differentiation in the market, and many projects need to fail, in order that the strong survive and ultimately become trusted and used and therefore attract the capital that is coming in. Long term - very bullish. This week? This month? Not nearly so. For XMR I am still feeling August will be interesting, autumn good. Prices doing another 10x is a way off yet, though. As long as BTC doesn't dive into the slough of despond, it's looking pretty good after the run we had. The market is doing remarkably better than I feared it might as a whole. 18 months ago, I would have laughed at anyone predicting the BTC price that we are looking at now, and today's XMR price would have been a dream come true. Without wishing to patronise, be patient? A dull grind is just how it goes sometimes - it has to. It is a small price to pay for the sunshine days to come. And before too long, they will come.

The longer these "fail" project run the less likely they are to fail.
I don't know if that's irony or what but it is becoming clearer to me.
Of course nothing last forever and don't eat yellow snow and so on.
All human constructs and trends are trends until they aren't. Then tough luck.
