It looks like most of the recents blocks are found thanks to big rentals !
Luck is no match for raw hashrate.

Where do people rent 100s of TH or Petahash of hashing power?

For a small cost, many just rent large amounts of hash and hope to hit, many can point their rigs at nicehash and get paid per share mining there as if they were mining in a generic pool, but these rigs when rented are diverted to where the renter wants them. The rig owner is always getting paid, I have got my KNC titan pointed here.

For pure hash, I use NH and point to Kano. However, for solo.CKPool..... I also use MRR where I can control my rental better. My 1st solo block was via MRR and came very very close a few more times. My Solo experience in NH has always fell short.....

I like to rent with MiningRigRentals (MRR) as well since they give me a lot more freedom. Sometimes you can get good deals instantly, sometimes you have to wait. It all cuts into your soloing time though

Interesting, what is a rental service suddenly decided to say, discard any share over the current difficulty to keep you renting? What's to stop them doing that... Probably a risk you run though... Although I have done rentals of like 3.5p for an hour and never got over 4 billion.

I like to use MRR for rentals too.
To be honest I think the majority of blocks found have been from MRR while solo mining compared to NiceHash.

I have never used them, maybe though it could just be varying levels of luck?

I usually message the MRR rentor that I am doing solo mining at ckpool, and they will make sure that their rigs will fire all cylinders. I do solo mining like once a month and I am kind of regular customer, so they know me and usually give me some extra hash. I ask them for advise too via the MRR messaging system, in BTC and ETH topics, and most of very helpful. You can never have this kind of "relationship" in NH. The MRR helpdesk is also quite responsive esp if rentor's rig gets stalled and they cancel rental contracts if rigs are having issues that results in prolonged downtime. I like that feature.

I might switch MRR, i just dont have capital to throw at this and i don't want to gamble away what I am mining, i will put my faith in an S3 and the odd rental.
I think the most i threw at solo was a 1 hour 8pH rental... XD

Short big rentals, aka shocking the pool, rarely works imo. Also MRR seems 'safer' to rent from. I think something (either some bad rigs/bwithholding or latency issues)on the other rental service has much more reduced chances to get a solve.

No amount of hashrate would shock this pool.

No amount of hashrate would shock this pool. It's a term used when adding a large rental that is many times more than normal rates. Nothing to do with the pool's ability to handle it or not.
