1. No, this is not sorcery... it's probably all about law of averages and using Kano historical & luck data and making a guestimate.

2. At 35-40PH, the 3-4 blocks per day is average for pool size. At 40-45PH, 4-5 blocks should be the norm.

3. So if we hit one early in UTC, there is good upside for more blocks. Why? Because Kano pool is very lucky (see stats).

4. Some of you PM me on rental strategy... pls take note that you need 5ND on your side to get good payouts.

5. 5ND matures to a certain peak after 1 day and 12 some hours. So timing is everything.

6. Don't go overboard on rentals - have a system and be disciplined about how much you willing to "invest"  

7. Those who have good electricity rates, don't waste BTC on rentals, just go buy S9 and mine with real iron.

8. Last but not least, ignore the points above - its all about pool luck (Kano and -ck will probably comment more on this  ).

My thoughts as well. I don't rent...but the reasoning is sound. And I like Rule 8...ignore rules 1 thru 7.

Technically, if the S9 really use 1275W At the wall, it's use 1275 x 0.93 = 1185W on 12V. So a good quality 1200W PSU is enough but be the smallest unit you can use.

But usually, best efficiency is obtain at the half of power. At full power, you usually loose between 1 and 2% efficiency.

So a gold PSU used at 50% is very near a platinum PSU used at 100% (and will probably be more reliable)

it says 1275 dc + 7% at wall based on a plat psu.  that 1200 watt can do 1320 watts at the wall as I think it is a gold not a plat.

so you need a better psu then those 1200 watt hp dps 1200 and remember the spec up are for the batch 2 and batch 3  s-9's

the s-9 batch 1 was specced to run at freq 650  and use 1390 watts dc +7%  if a plat psu.

there is no  way the hp dps1200 should be used on an s-9  unless you really clock low like  450 to 500 or so.

I've finally managed to take some direct measurements of DC draw on an S9.
Even though it's mining on kano.is during the measurements, I don't want to go too far o/t with details, but:

The DC draw for this unit is 1.89W*MHz + 57W for fans/controller everywhere from 450MHz to 668.75MHz.

At 650 w/ 100% fan the DC draw is 106.67A @ 12.051V = 1285.5W
50% fan only saves about 10W, but does take the unit exactly to its spec of 1275W.

at 1500 watts for $119, this might be a decent PSU:

Just saw this post...I haven't used this particular one, but I would trust it. I've been buying the 1KW HP bricks from Centrix for months, and they've been dependable and cost effective. If they say it's for an S9, it means they've tried it. They run a farm in WA as well. Price is sure OK. I don't have 240 available here, which is another reason why I use the 1KW bricks at 120.

But, it's 94 degrees Fahrenheit (34.4 C) outside, and my mining room is HOT!

I just added two more fans today in addition to the two 20" box fans in the windows (one intake, one out).
I had the two new fans blowing up from the bottom miner rack.
Sadly, the fans disrupted the existing airflow from the window AC unit and cause the miners temp to rise.

I've got to figure out how to use the new fans and actually lower the temps. I had to down-clock two miners to reach acceptable temps.
Wish I had more than two windows in the room!

I'll figure it out. Perhaps hanging the fans from the back of the rack... or in front of the AC, if I can figure out how to hang it. 

In the mean time, please, some COOL OUT-DOOR AIR!

Usually, good quality PSU given to 1200W means it is output power. Ok for the +7%, you have right but good PSU have safety margin, it will not shut down at Full power +1%. That can work.

I have already use a HP1200W to power Garden miner who uses 1200W on 12V,  ~1400W at the wall whiwout any problem.

But using a PSU @100% of it's power specification is not very good, because will be more sensitive to voltage drop or local temperature, reduce lifetime and efficiency drop.

Yeah the same problem. It's 35-36 C (95-97 F) daytime temp where i live. And in my mining room there is the same temp. I figured out that attaching a separate tube to each block to push hot air directly out of the room is more effective than having fans pushing it out of the entire room. Second, i uninstalled the intake fan at all and half of the window as well and replaced it with a DIY simple dust filter to let as much outsid air in as possible which worked great. So now with no additional fans the temps are lower than when i had 2 fans in both windows. But nevertheless i had to downclock the units untill the outside temp is a bit lower, its really stuffy here...

I'm on West Kaua'i Island, where ambient is usually around 80-90F. I use HDX wire shelving (like most folks, I think). I used 1" (2.5CM) styrofoam sheet insulation cut into pieces to friction-fit underneath each of three shelves (to seal them from other levels). I then cut slabs of foam to friction-fit as side panels between the wire shelf below/to the foam undercover of the shelf above. No glue needed, easy to remove for inspection. I ended up with three "tunnels" to channel air from one end to the other. I have two boxes (S3s now, but were S7s until I shipped them off) on each shelf, with the exhausts all pointing to one end. I then have a 20 in box fan on the intake end pushing air in, and another box fan on the exhaust end, which is in turn pushed up against an outside window. I also have two 20in box fans in the windows on the opposite side of the room (8 or 9 meters away) sucking air in from the outside, creating a constant cross-breeze. It's kept things copascetic so far. The noise attenuation with the S7s was noticeable as well; still not exactly quiet, but certainly quieter.

It'll be a day or two...I should probably cam it and put it up so folks can look at it. Been a bit busy at the moment.

I have some flexible 12" aluminum ducting, just no really convenient way to duct it to a window with exhaust fan from all three (soon to be four) miners.
Need to figure something out as I don't want to run the AC in that room 24/7 all summer!

Unfortunately I can't make any structural modifications to the room as I don't own the property. I did have an electrician friend run two 240 outlets and another 20 amp dual 110 to the room. But I'm not telling anyone. Shhhh.
