don't forget about fan energy uses.. One fan takes almost 50W so if it is hot and fan speed increase from 50 to 100% and there's 2fans it gives about 50W addidionally So IMHO 1400W is miniimum s9 PSU Wattage...

Hello,
Technically, if the S9 really use 1275W At the wall, it's use 1275 x 0.93 = 1185W on 12V. So a good quality 1200W PSU is enough but be the smallest unit you can use.
But usually, best efficiency is obtain at the half of power. At full power, you usually loose between 1 and 2% efficiency.
So a gold PSU used at 50% is very near a platinum PSU used at 100% (and will probably be more reliable)
it says 1275 dc + 7% at wall based on a plat psu. that 1200 watt can do 1320 watts at the wall as I think it is a gold not a plat. a 1275 dc x 1.1 = 1402 at the wall. so you need a better psu then those 1200 watt hp dps 1200 and remember the spec up are for the batch 2 and batch 3 s-9's the s-9 batch 1 was specced to run at freq 650 and use 1390 watts dc +7% if a plat psu. there is no way the hp dps1200 should be used on an s-9 unless you really clock low like 450 to 500 or so.

Drumsticks received, block replied ... and almost 4% txn fess on that one! First block for Dashun99 She was about half hour late.... so I have given her a slap on the wrist for being late... LOL She said she will do better today and give us more green blocks! WOW... look at that TX fees! BTW, a bit off topic, anyone can recommend a good remote power "off/on" control adapter? I found this... but there must be a better solution out there... https://www.amazon.com/TP-LINK-Controls-Electronics-Anywhere-HS100/dp/B0178IC734I was given one of them from newegg to review. I used my ipad to control it. it is okay but how much power will you run on it? hint it will get too hot running an s-7 as i did that over night. I would not run over 1000 watts in it. If I could find it I would mail it to you as you don't need a smart phone to run it. A wifi based ipad will run it while you are in your home on your home network. Let me know if anyone finds some of these for 220VAC and the appropriate wattage for S7/S9 and I will buy 50 of them. Are there any other methods other than smart PDUs that can be used to remotely restart a miner? You can get a used APC 30-amp PDU for about a $100 on eBay, handles ~4 S9s and is a friggin' tank compared to those flimsy plastic smart plugs. Another alternative would be Pi + relays if you don't mind some DIY.

I don't want to take this too far Hello,
Technically, if the S9 really use 1275W At the wall, it's use 1275 x 0.93 = 1185W on 12V. So a good quality 1200W PSU is enough but be the smallest unit you can use.

I've finally managed to take some direct measurements of DC draw on an S9. Even though it's mining on kano.is during the measurements, I don't want to go too far o/t with details, but: The DC draw for this unit is 1.89W*MHz + 57W for fans/controller everywhere from 450MHz to 668.75MHz. At 650 w/ 100% fan the DC draw is 106.67A @ 12.051V = 1285.5W 50% fan only saves about 10W, but does take the unit exactly to its spec of 1275W.

Here are the specs for the dps 1200 https://i.imgur.com/vFT7Qdr.jpg magic does not apply Edit: the adapter board that is sold for dps 1200 only supports 8 pcie connectors S7 S9 require 10, Bitmain does not recommend the use of splitters

That's why I have such good luck with the HP 1KW bricks w/adapters that I've been using. I use two bricks (they'll run at 120 or 240); one is rigged with 6 PCIe connectors to run boards 1 and 2; the other brick is rigged with 4 connectors and runs board 3 and the controller. They run S7s with no problem at all, and given the numbers I'm seeing they'd have no problem running an S9, either. If you conservatively figure that an S9 runs 1400W, divided by 10 inputs, 140W x 6 for one brick is 840W, and for the other is 560W, both within a good window. I like them because they're versatile (they run my S3s and S7s, and even with a bit of finagling my old S2). Last ones I bought were around US$160 for a pair, including the rigging to hook it them up to an S7.

Last ones I bought were around US$160 for a pair, including the rigging to hook it them up to an S7. in the bitcoin mining game imo psu need to be at least 20% more capacity than the nominal rating to allow for the upswing in the hash rate, i also don't understand how the rating of the psu be stated so high when produce 1kw@ 12vdc the psu is going to draw 1kw@ 120-240 vac at the wall my math does not see any efficiency there at all. edit: this article has given me some clarity http://www.plugloadsolutions.com/docs/collatrl/print/Generalized_Internal_Power_Supply_Efficiency_Test_Protocol_R6.6.pdf
