They were the ones withholding on Slush.

They obviously were testing their mining proxy/system live mining on Slush and it was fuxored, withholding blocks.
Testing code on a live pool means you are asking every other miner on the pool to risk losing BTC with your testing, rather than risk it all yourself.
Scum bags.

They should have solo mined to test their code until they found some blocks and thus knew it could at least do that.
I'd not go near them.

Though ... I guess I should try find out where they mine from and block them ... ... ...

Were they withholding just lately?  This could explain Slush's luck numbers lately... I understand variance and high/low cycles being normal.. but these numbers have just been terrible:

https://s31.postimg.org/4u1t46t57/Slush.jpg

That being said, I just switched over some more hash to Kano today.

You won't regret it.  Do the numbers, Kano has the best payout.  It is all about the payout.  That Slush Dashboard is nice, but it does not pay the bills!

no they did it on and off since 2015.

here is some advice anytime a  50 block count goes under  75%  by very wary that the pool  has a problem.

may be an error on the pool or may be the pool is attacked or may be an unknown.

but 50 block luck under 75%  is not good.

Welcome to a much better pool to mine with! I switched back in Feb and long term, this pools payouts are far better than any other.

You can read more about it on Slush pool's page, under the news section. But it announced back in Feb and he was very vague about the particulars. It wouldn't surprise me though if someone else was doing the same thing to that pool. They have been very slow to respond to problems. Unlike Kano.is

Kano is very transparent about issues and is actively involved in the thread and answering concerns.

I worked Slush for several months last year. Switched to here when I learned that Con and Kano were the principals...they both have a well-earned rep for honesty and transparency that shows on the pool. I still monitor Slush; their FB content is incredibly obtuse. I don't expect every pool to have a FB page (gawd that would be a pain to maintain...I have to do that for three pages), but if you're going to have one, you should probably not be obvious about its propaganda mission...IMHO... Roll Eyes

To infinity and beyond...on two 741s and one of only 3...nope, make that 4...full nodes in Hawaii...on <30A. (I have other gear on the Hoth ice planet)

Withholding Blocks.
I've only been mining less than a year.
I've heard of withholding blocks.
Pool finds a block, does not broadcast to network.
Apart from not earning a reward what effect does this have on the network?
Does this cause the orphan blocks?
Sorry for the questions would like to understand.
Flamer.

There's a cool thing called the internet where you can put in questions and find answers, you should check it out!

I was moving some of my OLD miners over to CK SOLO POOL -- you know -- just to roll the dice for the last few days before halving (they'll have to be turned off for good at that point).  And I happened to notice that my S7 running under my screen name here on Kano (my hobby account) ACTUALLY FOUND A BLOCK!!!

Block 418044 on 6/26...

YAY -- I'm on the ACCLAIM board!!!

 Grin Grin Grin

P.S. How do I find one of those really cool screenshots that actually shows my worker name in the BLOCK SOLVED script?

but 50 block luck under 75%  is not good.
...
You can calculate the CDF[Erlang] of that using the wolfram web page.

That of course is the CDF[Erl] number I show in the Block Statistics table at the top.

50 blocks, average luck 72.37% = mean 1.3818
http://www.wolframalpha.com/input/?i=CDF%5BErlangDistribution%5B50%2C+50%5D%2C++1.3818%5D

That says the result is: 0.993105

So that's like you expect to average once in ~7200 blocks you'd expect luck to be that bad.

Organofcorti's post about CDF[Erlang]:
https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=77000.msg10638159#msg10638159

Edit: ok I used the luck not the mean, oops, fixed above now, it should have been the mean Smiley

Only if you have free power...like here (even though it's only 30A). I'll be leaving the six S3s on line here, but another reason is that they're supporting a new co-op mining group's newbies (on this pool). The boxes are ROI several times over. They're being "paid forward." Almost ready to post a new thread on it. If it wasn't for ckpool and the interaction here, dunno if it would've come about.

Mine on.  Cool

Well, I guess you aren't really sure of my feelings then Tongue

We mine what the bitcoin network deems we must mine.
No one can mine segwit until a fork.

I may not be lol. I just read a article where antpool stated they wouldn't be or something like that. It lead me to believe pools had a choice.

That's a different issue.
That's regarding supporting a fork, or not.
No I don't support the fork, as I've made clear, but no I also don't throw blocks away Smiley
If bitcoin moves to requiring support of segwit, then yes we would have to support it then.

However,
the bitcoin devs, in their little centralised master control of BTC ivory tower, want to change bitcoin so they centralise and control transaction fees.
Aside: they also only work on bitcoin if they are paid enough - this fact was made clear to me, directly by "Wladimir J. van der Laan" who effectively runs the bitcoin git.

They like their little god structure where they can ignore the miners who confirm the transactions, as they showed with BIP100 where support of it was very high, but the devs canned it coz it didn't go with their Lightning network plan to move the transaction fees from miners to them.

The bitcoin design is quite clearly stated by Satoshi.
Mining reward will shift to transaction reward so that bitcoin will continue on it's solid foundations.
That isn't where the devs are trying to move it to now with their greed with the Lightning network to take away the growing transactions rewards, which will grow as expected with the original bitcoin design.

Their design is flawed, however, and hopefully will not get enough support, so I guess it's just a question of how easily people are conned into it.
