My Bitmain hardware experience...

S1 - solid as a rock.  Had them overclocked at 200GH each and they hummed along happily with no issues ever.
S2 - delicate.  If you managed to get units undamaged, and if you didn't manage to blow up the crap PSU it came with, and if you had perfect temperatures, and if you didn't look at it the wrong way, and if you didn't mine on p2pool, then it would work.
S3 - flaky. They were finicky as hell, and you had to find the "sweet spot".  Some hashed at advertised speeds, some hashed lower, others higher.  Once you found that sweet sport, they were pretty solid.  Occasional "x" that a cold boot would solve.  Random occasional restarts.  They definitely lasted forever (I have 8 in my basement that still hash when I power them up).
S5 - lousy.  They'd hash solid for a bit, then start to fail.  Random "x" and "-" would appear.  Then the entire board would crap out.  Sometimes a full cold boot would fix things for a bit.  Other times, nothing would work.

I never owned any Bitmain gear after the S5.  Their garbage software hacks combined with their blatantly misleading and false claims on their pools was enough to keep me away.

This is a perfect example of a good review. Notice how they make no mention of an s9 since they never used or owned one.

That reply is not even related to firetreeactual's comment - so yeah it deserved to be deleted.
It's got nothing to do with S9 hardware reliability.

Read her post again and you will see that the reply below it has nothing to do with it.
In fact her response is related exactly to my deleting all that crap from the retard who doesn't understand statistics.

It has everything to do with ALL of the comments.
...
No it doesn't.

... Especially because she has in the past. Just like you. Made comments on the reliability of the s9. Even though you have both said you have never owned one.
These conflicts are a direct result of irresponsible comments.  Maybe innocent at heart. Still irresponsible.

If you have a post she's made you want to reply to, then you reply to it.
(though that doesn't mean it can't be deleted Tongue)

Your reply is to a post that basically has nothing to do with your reply and then you disparage her in the reply.
So I deleted it.
End of story.

I have never made any false claims or claims of an object I have never used or owned.

You're missing the point. I don't need to know if you own any S9s because that's irrelevant. You seem to be drawing fundamentally wrong conclusions about the reliability of the S9 and it would still be wrong whether you post a screenshot, or a selfie, or whatever. But even that's not your most ridiculous claim. That honor goes to your insistence that nobody else can dispute it. Because random reasons.

I don't own a lot of things yet I don't think that disqualifies me from having strong opinions about them.

For example I don't own kano pool but I visit the thread anyway because (among other things) the guy who does actually own it also knows a thing or two about mining and is not shy of sharing it.

I also don't own Antpool but I don't like it because (among other things) their 0% fee is misleading and they take much more via tx fees.

That is my opinion. And I'm not gonna post a screenshot to make it look worth more than it is. If someone thinks my opinion is shit I welcome an argument on facts, not on some made up ownership criteria.
Your comparison is flawed because most likey. You have mined on both there by giving you sufficient data to form a opinion and put it to words.

Nothing of what I mentioned above requires me to have mined on those pools. Having done so or not done so wouldn't have made my opinion any different. There is no "data" to be obtained via mining that would affect what I said. And I doubt it would have made it any more or less valuable to anyone else either.

Does my mining (or not) on kano pool make kano any more (or less) knowledgeable?

Does my mining (or not) on Antpool make their fees different?

Now I will concede that owning a mining device might provide useful data to form an opinion about certain aspects of said device. Except in your case where you extrapolate your alleged 100% reliability in a way that makes no sense whatsoever.

It looks like some of the rats that jumped ship are starting to come back...it's amazing what a short 220% luck streak can do.

Not a rat that jumped ship nor will I come back!  The banter here about s9 is BS.  Again, I try to make a profit mining.
With kano pool at  under 1 % of difficulty you all could be in for a wild ride . Take a look a Bitminter stats for the last year.

Good luck to all.

Makes perfect sense. If the problems were as bad as certain people has made it seem like. I would have had issues somewhere. With out a doubt on how some people are making it out to be the end of the world. I would have had a problem. Yet nope.

It not good for the pool. And the pool has had enough problems.

With that I'm done. I wish this pool with nothing but great luck. Have fun.

What's not good for the pool? S9 reliability or lack thereof? How so?

I'm not a stats guru by any means but I can grasp the concept of sample size. Your 19 miners - a drop in the bucket. Consider yourself lucky. That doesn't make everyone else wrong though.

It is irresponsible to make comments on an object if they have no experience with that object. It is bad for the pool because most people will see through the shit and leave. Just like the fanboy comments about Linux and against windows. (Not saying you mentioned anything about that)
It's not needed. It pushes people away. And last time I checked. This pool needs all the hash it can get.

Um, you're the one who said 10% failure was OK, coz something about trucks and cars and fork lifts Tongue

I doubt there are many here who agree with that ...

However, there's another obvious point about your comment here ... sample.

Indeed if someone only has 1 miner and it fails (I only had 1 S5 and half of it failed) then it's not reasonable to assume that all S5s will fail in the same way.
But, there's the opposite that is also true, if someone with a small sample has no failures does that mean no one will ever have failures?
Guess what the answer is ... ... ... 'no' ... and even you were saying how 10% was ok Tongue

People have problems with their S9 miners - it's in lots of posts on the forum.
How bad are those failures? I've no idea.
Even someone with 20 really has no basis to extrapolate their reliability.

How bad are those problems for those who have them?
Well that's each individuals decision, coz no matter what you say, you cannot say what problems anyone else WILL have.
The bitcoin network is around 2,275PHs
It's not unreasonable to assume 15% of that is S9 - so probably about 160,000 of them.
Yeah even 20 says next to nothing about 160,000 of them Smiley

The people that do not agree with my 10% comment have then obviously never been around actual machines or large equipment.
10% has only been mentioned today. Before that. For the last few months. The way people have been talking. It makes it seem like the failure rate is way higher. Like that's all they do. (Break down) If you have some actual failure rates from bitmain themselves. That would be great.
While my sample size is small. I have bought from many batches. And the way people have been making the "failure rate" seem. I would of found one.

And a lot of people here are acting like none of the failure rate can be attributed to people scerwing them up on their own. And then claiming the fault was not their own. And again. I am not pointing fingers here in this thread. You are basing your asumpitions of the failure rate from other threads of people you do not know. With no actual proof that it wasn't them who screwed the pooch.

The future expectations of all miners is long term 100% luck.

When the larger sample results don't match that by a large margin, then there is MOST likely something wrong with the miners in question.

This is called SIMPLE statistics - nothing even slightly complicated about it.

Heck. I don't even like Bitmain that much. I really don't care about what happens to the company. I only use the miners because they make the most money. As soon as bitfury gets their heads out of their ass's. I'll buy from them. If the A7 was any where close to being comparable.  I would buy from them. I only care about making the most amount of money so I can continue to grow my mining business.

Yep that's pretty reasonable Smiley

My stats posts, which are supposed to have nothing to do with that Tongue, are about the fact that a particular firmware, S9v1 has REALLY bad luck on the pool.
To the point where it is unlikely to just be "bad luck"

The S9v2 so far has been good (above expected luck), but like the A7, not a lot of data yet.

Yeah, I can only go by your numbers on the s9v1. If you say so on that. I can only agree.
