The Earl of Tavastia withdraws his offer to sell 25 shares of NLQI @ 2.0 and places a new offer to buy 25 shares @ 2.0 instead.

It appears that once again, the council of HM was swift and errorless.  By the charter of the business plan, due to shares purchased, the Marquess is bound by duty to offer the perhaps overgenerous amount of 2.70 Mm per share of NLQI to any current holder that wishes to see some immediate profits from this enterprise.  We will buy up to 50 shares at this price.

Perhaps some cognac in the cup of the enterprising Earl or any other NLQI shareholder will sweeten this prospect?  Who could turn down such an immediate and wondrous profit from only a year of owning some paper?

EDIT: Due to some active trading, there has been some price volatility.

Construction of Villa Rotonda

Our dream of 50 years has now been fulfilled as the Villa Rotonda (855 sqm, 15 m high dome) is constructed on the pristine area between the Village and the TIE haw.

It will house the School of Economics, and other applied and practical sciences. The building in set on an artificial landscape (hill), and features 3 laboratories, a cafeteria ($$), the central (dome) hall, King's personal offices when he wants to interact with the applied academia, 3 classrooms with groupwork rooms, 4 steep opulent spiral staircases, 6 apartments for the scientists, and a host of other rooms.

I would like to purchase, and then donate the two lots next to the proposed site for the 'Sunrise Club', T23 & T24, to be used to further the aims of this project. It can be used for any purpose the Marquess d'Armagnac sees fit. Maybe a park, maybe a retreat centre for overnight 'slumber parties'; anything that might make the 'Sunrise Club' more enjoyable for younger players and their IRL parents/guardians. I would also like to donate 200M towards building costs and other expenses.
I am grateful and pleased the Prince of OZ gifts the Youth Center in such a way.

True to the spirit of empowerment that I wish to instill in the Youth Center and its members, I propose the land itself will be left vacant until the members themselves decide what to build on it. The Youth Center had been inaugurated recently and so there is no immediate need to build more terrain - which mean more time to make it something that matters.

Regarding the Youth Center:
This is a building like no other. Since it was meant for a particular type of population, creative youngsters who will evolve in a way senior citizen may not anticipate, we decided to build what I like to call a modular building. The two first floors have almost no inside walls, making the building one giant room per storey (iwth the exception of one separate room at each storey, to accomodate sound-isolation). The rest of the huge room is meant to be redesigned on the fly with wall-panels similar to oriental fusumas or sliding wall, so that youngsters can adapt the building to their needs, instead of them adapting to the building. This is a massive departure from regular architectural designs, somehing we believe youngsters are the most apt at embracing, thanks to their young minds. We call this design "open space with panels" Panels themselves are located in giant closets to be used at will to create rooms of any size: 1*1, 2*7, 3*4... Similary, mobile furniture (chairs, tables...) is available aplenty to be moved easily from one room to another.
Originally there was supposed to be a central "well of light" in the middle, to ensure maximum illumination everywhere. As the design progressed, we move the well of light on the side (so it is not technically a well of light anymore), so that it is possible to create particularly large arrangements (7*7 room). No effort have been spared to accompany the creativity of youngsters
In the same idea, several anchor points have been placed on the external wall to accomodate impromptu mezzanines supported by large chains So a room is now modular in the three dimensions: height, width and depth. There are also several hatches in the ceiling to accomadate items of exceptional size or to allow some other creative uses.

The production figures for next year are already known (the stone will be added when the year changes), and NLQI seems to have increased its production the most: to 346,875 stone.

Apologies for the low qty, volatility has reduced liquidity until we can dislodge some more sellers of these shares.

NLQI achieved operational profitability in this year of the festival.  Some acclaim is shared with Lord Chancellor Smooth for his treatment of our Engineer Haruf "Tacky" (The engineering team had made some use of the overnight freezes to do a little rock cutting based on some sketches, and we hope for his return to productivity from university), and also a big thank you for The Most Reverend Bishop David for sending a parson for services to keep our workers near the jobsite.  
 
Mistress Asenath has set a production goal of 500,000 stones produced in the next year and is working diligently in order to accomplish this.  
Part of this goal is attained through attending to all of the workers needs to the best of our ability keeping them happy and healthy in body and soul.

Many (but not all) shareholders are taking advantage of their option to buy stone from the quarry on a daily basis at the market's "BUY" price.
Excess profit from sales have been used to buy a little gold which will be split among shareholders upon the completion of quarry operations and the dissolution of the quarry.

NLQI has developed some quarry management talent as well as worker expertise and has promoted many of its workers in the last few years to higher positions.  We look for this to continue.  We have now broken topsoil on about half the jobsite and so are looking at expanding operations until we have an optimal productivity.  We are only now beginning the shift of workers into more productive activities from their beginnings of building structures and readying the job site for large scale extractions and some of the more difficult stone cutting efforts.

We believe some of the better stones are yet to be found more deeply and are expecting some nicely colored basalt and even stronger rock suitable for supporting the great structures of the Crypto Kingdom's capital.

Development of the Trust in Economy Borough (2)

The Town Council has decided to take office and do it in the Town Council Meeting Room in the Town Hall Annex. The first meeting there (IRC) will be held today 20:00 GMT.

1. Where do we meet? Since we are 4, the proposal is to take the Council Meeting Room in the Town Hall Annex in use. It is 55 sqm and 7-9 m high, with probably the record window ratio of all the rooms in the town (42:55, with most of the windows towards wide open south). The lux of the building is 110%, and the local luxury in the room is about 200%, which was the limit when it was constructed. The building (#65) was built in 1468, but this room has never been used even once in 57 years. During HM and HG tenure, the Council meetings were held in Priory Hotel mostly.

The most pressing need is to decide about the 2-C chapelry, a very distinct and important piece of land if developed properly, the destination of all driver rides if the tourist does not know where to go, or a common language is not found. And millions of tourists we will have soon, as The Marquess of F.S. is about to update on the development.

There is a tab called "OVERVIEW-2" which outlines the Mayor's plan. The decision will be reached in the Council, but public discussion can help the Councillors to make the best decisions. Features:

- A one, clear, major, central square in the whole borough. All possible other squares are two notches below. This makes the land around it very valuable, and it is zoned to 8 large lots for important constructions. Aim is to boost the town finances as well as to beautify it.

- 8 radial streets/roads lead to all the chapelries, and 4 of these (N,E,S,W) are major roads that go to the borough gates. East gate is most important of these, since that is the road to the Old Town only about a mile away. The road goes through the Citadel, which was almost ready when the barbarian threat subsided, and still is - the Donjon(Keep) rising to 25 m height, drawbridges from the town to Donjon in good condition, but the outer wall being only 6 m high, without much any defensive structures, except 3 cannons hidden inside the walls. The cannons were hot in the 1400s, but are becoming commonplace and alarming stories say that they soon have enough firepower to destroy the stone walls. Oh well...

- One ring road acts as a link connecting all the chapelries.

- The land in the 8 "quarry chapelries" becomes available when the quarries finish. By that time, the centre should be already quite developed. The land in other chapelries would be given to the first builder, after meeting a minimum e, which can be as low as 0.15. In practical terms, you build a 90 sqm townhouse next to a road, you get the total of 6 q of land from Town.

- We have already decided that the Nobles need to have their palace in the Old Town (since they will have an additional requirement of a country castle anyway soon). It is under discussion whether Masters can live in the new chapelry or not, and we think that it should probably be allowed. There they are near their workshops, research, and other things in the scope of their mastery, and also the land is cheaper allowing the aspiring new players become Masters sooner.

Councillor Paulson has also a plan, which he can present himself, to the council, or to all if he so wishes.

The previous Church's architect, Quicken, had to resign from his position, due to personal matters. We looked after someone to replace him and we are happy to announce that Febo Urso Mortiginto is more than up to the task. His glorious ancestry lives well in him.
As is the rule, the Church's architect will have exclusivity on any Church's building, except if he gets overloaded. Signore Mortiginto is allowed to accept third-party requests and his reputation as the architect for most spiritual buildings will certainly attract attention and may in turn increase awareness on buildings he will be the designer of ("it's a Mortiginto"). Think about it when choosing an architect.

We see that the Trust in Economy borough has quickly established itself in economic activity - about 106 million per year is earned by the NPC population working there (cf. 116 million by NPC's and 54 million by PC's in the Old Town). It is imperative that we start to capture a larger chunk of their income to the local economy.

Therefore we have opened the C chapelry for building. Due to its central and valuable location, and the clear opportunities for a nice windfall from the quarry workers, we are unable to give this land for free, there would be too many takers.

The price will be restricted, though, to 50 million per quadrat. The juiciest lots are allocated to the most venerable characters and institutions in town. If they refuse to buy their allotment in a reasonable time of about 3 years, they will join the rest of the lots. (Church and Town allotments are donated, but HM and Prince of OZ will have to pay for theirs.)

The rest of the lots outside the monumental Trust in Economy square, are in Dutch Auction, with price starting from 50/q and going down until all are sold.

The other chapelries will be made available and as affordable as possible, once they become available from the quarries.

I am truly honoured & grateful for HM's kind words! Who would have guessed all those many years ago when I was but a humble hard working tavern owner working long hours in the 'Hung Drawn & Quartered' that one day I would rise to such an exalted position as 'Prince'. My gratitude to Your Majesty knows no bounds!

I happened to be away from CK when the news of my promotion was announced, as I was taking Hokusai (my new sockpuppet) on a quick tour of Europe's finest Art galleries. Hokusai comes from a noble Samurai family in his native land of the rising sun. He's one of those excellent Japanese chaps who's just as capable of slicing a man into a thousand pieces with his Samurai sword in 2 seconds flat as he is at penning a sublime sonnet in your honour, or more likely in Hokusai's case, painting an image of your likeness to rival anything seen in the finest galleries of Europe. Hokusai is taking up the position of Director of the 'Hungus Academy of Art', and inaugural Curator of the 'Tsurugajo Art Gallery' (aka 'The Hungus Gallery').

Hokusai has plans to see that HM's likeness is 'well hung' in the Hungus Gallery soon, more on those plans later!

Again, this 'humble tavern owner' is deeply moved by HM's continued support.

It can be used for any purpose the Marquess d'Armagnac sees fit. Maybe a park, maybe a retreat centre for overnight 'slumber parties'; anything that might make the 'Sunrise Club' more enjoyable for younger players and their IRL parents/guardians. I would also like to donate 200M towards building costs and other expenses.
I am grateful and pleased the Prince of OZ gifts the Youth Center in such a way.

True to the spirit of empowerment that I wish to instill in the Youth Center and its members, I propose the land itself will be left vacant until the members themselves decide what to build on it. The Youth Center had been inaugurated recently and so there is no immediate need to build more terrain - which mean more time to make it something that matters.

Regarding the Youth Center:
This is a building like no other. Since it was meant for a particular type of population, creative youngsters who will evolve in a way senior citizen may not anticipate, we decided to build what I like to call a modular building. The two first floors have almost no inside walls, making the building one giant room per storey (iwth the exception of one separate room at each storey, to accomodate sound-isolation). The rest of the huge room is meant to be redesigned on the fly with wall-panels similar to oriental fusumas or sliding wall, so that youngsters can adapt the building to their needs, instead of them adapting to the building. This is a massive departure from regular architectural designs, somehing we believe youngsters are the most apt at embracing, thanks to their young minds. We call this design "open space with panels" Panels themselves are located in giant closets to be used at will to create rooms of any size: 1*1, 2*7, 3*4... Similary, mobile furniture (chairs, tables...) is available aplenty to be moved easily from one room to another.
Originally there was supposed to be a central "well of light" in the middle, to ensure maximum illumination everywhere. As the design progressed, we move the well of light on the side (so it is not technically a well of light anymore), so that it is possible to create particularly large arrangements (7*7 room). No effort have been spared to accompany the creativity of youngsters
In the same idea, several anchor points have been placed on the external wall to accomodate impromptu mezzanines supported by large chains So a room is now modular in the three dimensions: height, width and depth. There are also several hatches in the ceiling to accomadate items of exceptional size or to allow some other creative uses.

Congratulations to Febo & His Grace! The design of the Youth Center is most ingenious, and the '3D' modular design and capacity to create large open spaces, and smaller ones temporarily within the building is excellent. I can foresee younger CK visitors having a great time in the Youth Center!!

To better provide this town with the stone resource from the SE quarry, Roopatra has negotiated with NL about the quarry management, and we have reached a decision to team up for running the SE quarry. From this day onwards the SE quarry will be managed by “The Top Quarry Manager”, Mistress Asenath, who is the same person running the New Liberty´s Best Producing –quarry in the Kingdom. Prince Joseph is so certain of Asenath´s management skill, that he will cover any cost overruns until the quarry is profitable, or Asenath leaves the management role.

In addition to the change in quarry management, we have agreed to a new name for the quarry: RAQ (or, the Roopatra Asenath Quarry Corporation), to mark this new era dawning on the SE quarry.

We have divided the ownership of the corporation shares, so that Roopatra remains the majority shareholder of the quarry, but NewLiberty and Asenath are well rewarded for their experience and expertize in running the business.

Roopatra earlier told the good citizens who were eager to buy shares of the Roopatra Quarry Corporation, that there will be no sell of shares, until she has been able to make the quarry profitable. With this I wanted to make sure that the trust and the money of the shareholders is not misplaced in a badly managed corporation. Well, I believe, with Asenath as the manager, that the time has now come.

Therefore we are now considering the possibility to sell out shares for the new RAQ corporation. We are exploring our options by asking the fellow citizens, whether they would have interest to buy into this corporation. Shareholders would get the quarry profits in proportion to their ownership percentage, as well as access to buying cheaper stone for their buildings, in a similar manner as the current shareholders of the NL quarry. If enough want them, maybe we should be a public company? Let me know, if you would want to buy some RAQ shares?

In answer to Roopatra, I would favor some limited public offering as I would like the change to buy more shares myself.  Smiley

As the one taking the risk on this arrangement as it stands, I had some interest also in such deal, but after Asenath looked at the books she saw that with the arrangement you propose, a public offering would likely fail.   At the production rate and costs of RAQ as it stands, if the capital costs are not considered at all, and only the labor and equipment breakage, the costs assessed to the shareholders would be over 200 per stone.  I advised her that I was indeed confidant in her management skills and that if she would undertake the effort, I would back the costs but would want to sell some shares to others as well.  Her own operation is close to half of that cost (not counting costs of capital, only labor and lost equipment) lately NLQI is around 115 per stone and possibly headed lower if volume can be increased.

BUT...Accomplishing that takes some significant capital investment as well as insight and luck.  On the capital, interest or opportunity cost is lost.  That capital is sunk and gone and might only be seen again if both the Quarry and the Kingdom thrive and prosper, (which we think it will but not all have such an eagerness for risk).  Some are working at making a living and simply need a good investment to make that easier that won't cost them anything more along the way.

So that is how we came to the current arrangement.  If Asenath is as successful as I think she will be, the quarry will be productive.   But to get from here to there... and also to have a chance of selling some shares... someone has to take the downside risk, and to have an IPO we need to let the shareholders have the upside rewards without assessing future costs that they can not control.

So Like NLQI, we would want the shareholders to get stones at the lowest price, non-shareholders get the mid-price.  If the quarries are productive, these prices are sure to fall, and the quarries will seek to be productive.

His Majesties wishes and wisdom are renowned, and after all is said and done, that is why His Majesty is our king.
So Now.... I can not speak for Roopatra, and ultimately it is her decisions as she is the owner.....  Perhaps a special class of share may be issued to accomplish precisely what it is that His Majesty is seeking.  I can see how it can be done, but I suspect it would be attractive to only a select few who can absorb the higher risks and potentially higher rewards. 
The special class of share would provide direct delivery and payment daily of costs of extraction, but would be expected to be priced higher because it not only deprives the quarry of any potential winfall rewards from its efforts, if it were priced the same, there would be no funds or incentive to expand quarry operations.  To me it seems a simple arrangement, but I can see how it could look complex to those less accustomed to such things.

HM is in a special circumstance and may see these as an attractive option, and frankly I agree that it is just so, albeit on a longer investment horizon.  But... there is only one king after all.  Would any others like that sort of arrangement?  Would any like something more like the NLQI model?  It could be an opportunity to ride along on a turnaround of a struggling operation and reap the benefits of that.  The more quarries we can bring to profitable production, the quicker our city can be built.
