If my quick 'n dirty math is sound, I wager that the 970 offers the most hashrate per $ (or per BTC if you prefer). The 750TI has better efficiency, but costs more to build whatever overall hashrate target, and that's without even taking the density limitations into consideration.

Pascal, where are thee, Pascal?

But the some of the 970 board can use up to 250Watt as they have a 4pin and a 3pin power connector. So you need a bigger and more expensive PSU and they produce heat like the AMD cards..

Yep. Which is why the 750TI is still king in terms of efficiency. Though personally I've never seen anywhere close to 250W per card, and I'm using overclocked (and undervolted) 980's. Still, the fact is that the higher end cards are most definitely more power hungry.

The extra cost of a larger PSU offsets with other parts though. Assuming the same total hashrate, you'll use less motherboards, cpu's, ram, etc, if making multiple rigs based on the 970 instead of 750's. Spend more on PSU, spend less on other stuff. Also to keep in mind, for some people, space savings are important, for others, not at all. So there's other things to consider beyond the hardware specifications.

I agree with all of this. One other factor is the cards' life cycle. Maxwell has less than a year before it
is obsoleted by Pascal. You essentially need to ROI before Pascal is released. I think the 750ti's better
power efficiency benefits from a longer life cycle with more time after ROI to exploit the efficiency.
The 970's lower initial price/hash allows it to ROI faster at a cost of slightly less profitability after ROI.

My GTX 960 get a speedup in lyra2v2 around 100 kh\s
i send you some vtc bears
best regards

Thanks for your support.

I have 3 commits in the lyra2v2 after release 70. Small steps that sums up to more free hashpower..

after the last 3 commits i get 100 kh/s more on each gtx 960

best regards for that

remains another factor, their ability to hold 24h/24h mining... I broke all my Gigabyte 750Ti at least one time (3 cards, all between 6 and 8 months),

and 2 970, one Inno3D (Maybe due a riser) and a MSI Gaming without reason.

Prices are going down this month... prepare the winter :p

What would you folks suggest for command line running lyra2rev2 with a 980 primary and 960 secondary.  I have been doing pretty well just a default settings, but would like to squeeze a little more out of them.

I have been doing some more research during the evening.
I might go with three EVGA 970 SC cards instead.

It will be alot easier to sell the cards when that day comes and i will save some space.

From what i found in this thread a descent 970 will do around 18Mhs Quark at around 280w ?

LAUNCH LINE FOR LYRA2v2--

My launch line follows:

       ""ccminer -a lyra2v2 -i 15.7 -C --cpu-priority 5 -o stratum+tcp://pool.com:port -u uname.wrkr1 -p x -b 0.0.0.0:4068"

The intensity "-i" is adjustable, 15.7 is as high as any of my hardware can go.  The cpu-mining flag "-C" helps, and the cpu-priority of "5" is the top setting.  The "-b" flag enables monitoring by the application program interface (api).  I get about 9.5Mh/s with my GTX 970 cards.

I definitely recommend the EVGA 970 SSC - cards.  I run (3) 970's, (9) 750 ti's, and (1) 960.  The (3) rigs pull about 1400 watts of power.  That includes the motherboards, cpus, gpus, etc.  I run all cards at stock clocks and pull about 115Mhs Quark.  I like the EVGA's!

Dragonslayer: since you are running two types of cards I believe you should be able to use two different intensities for them, utilizing -i x,y.  so instead of just 15.7 as above, something like 16,15.7 (or whenever the memory failures start on ccminer start, just ratchet it down a .1 or .2).  You should see the different intensities being used via the api.

I use 4 x 970 (GV-N970WF3OC-4GD) cards plus 2 x 750 Ti per rig with a single high quality PSU (I refuse to use low quality/low capacity PSUs anymore). The 750 Ti's being anything but Gigabyte OC cards (GV-N75TOC-2GI ) because I had 3 out of 6 of them die on me in about 15 months while having zero issues with Asus and Msi cards. Even though the Gigabyte cards have 36 months of warranty, it take quite some time to replace them.

My 6 EVGA 750 ti SC cards (no bios mod) are running great for 577 days with no problems. I no longer over-clock since I stopped mining VTC and LTC back in the day.  Say 90 days of OC.  The GPU fans run at 61-67% GPU temps are 47-53C  I have a Biostar H81S2 Bitcoin motherboard, and Corsair AX760i Platinum PSU. The 6 cards are running windows 8.1 use a total of 435.3W for the rig (According to the digital PSU).

I get

39400 kH/s on Quark.
28720 kH/s on Lyra2v2
19190 kH/s on X11

They have 3 year warranties.  Granted I will finally break even in about 20 days.  And this rig has 8 GB ram and an i3 processor.  I would recommend going for the Celeron processor, a Gold PSU and 4 GB of RAM to save money (takes about 2.9 GB right now to run the OS and rig).   The only good thing about all of the extras is I can compile new versions of ccminer without slowdowns on mining.  Wink

I've been used Gigabyte GV-N75TOC-2GI since it hit the market. I got 24 of them on 4 rigs. I run them overclock 24/7. Then, 2 of them died (broken fan) during this summer and I noticed that those cards were above the processor. There is extremely hot around that area. If I build a new rig in future, I'll move those cards away from the processor area.

I know a lot of miners like to overclock their cards maximum and they always push the fan faster to lower temp. However, they don't know the fan cannot handle it. In my exp, run at stock clock in the summer and do whatever you like in the winter. For me, I better buy 1 more GTX 750ti than overclock 6 x GTX 750ti to get a extra free card.

Sell GTX750ti - GTX960 - GTX970 - HD7950 iceq...

That's was not the issue in my case. I had them at 60°C temp target with about 70% fan speed and I don't think they ever reached 60°C and all 3 of them died the same way; computer randomly frooze, after restart the cards weren't recognized at all by the PC and the fans of the cards weren't started either. Also, there was a distinct discoloration (big brown spot) at the back of the PCB on all of them (even on the working ones) at the same spot. It's possible I might just had a bad batch but there's others out there with the same issue which makes me believe these cards are just simply terribly designed with subpar components. Also, I've never had any issues with any other Gigabyte cards (660, 780 Ti, 970) and any other 750 Ti cards (MSI, Asus). Edit: Also, the hottest parts of the cards were only around 70°C, measured with an infrared gun.

ONE gigabyte 750ti oc lp card 'broken' from more than 25 ( im not saying how many yet ) of these same cards running 24 / 7 in thefarm ... and that 'broken' one was a dead fan ... all running now for about 10months ...

so in comparison to say the amd cards that were running in the farm which have an over 90% failure rate - these 750ti oc lp cards are superb epsylon ...

btw - each of these cards run at about the 40W per card ... so efficiency is at the highest level possible that i have seen on all cards ...

Hey,

I'd like to know what interest there is to buy brand new GPUs (also HDDSs and GPUs) in the community. Through a really big procurement that I'm directing IRL, I'd be able to offer decent discounts. The negative side is that I can only handle a few different models (those my employer chose to buy), although many of each one.

I take two HDDs as examples of what percentage the discount would offer on an item.

WD Green WD60EZRX 6TB IntelliPower 64MB Cache SATA 6.0Gb/s 3.5" Internal Hard Drive Standard price is $279 but newegg have them on discount for $222.

Seagate Desktop SSHD ST4000DX001 4TB 64MB Cache SATA 6.0Gb/s 3.5" Solid State Hybrid Drive Bare Drive Standard price is $279 but newegg have them on discount for $229.

I'd be able to sell these for approx. $170 (EU) and $185 (US) incl. shipping.

More importantly for you, I will be able to offer GPUs (nVidia 970-980ti & the newest AMDs) with the similar discount.

If you are interested, please go here for more info: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=1207919

yep, i dont say that always happens... also all the gigabyte crashed (2 black edition and one normal) had the same problem (capacitor 704),

the ones received from RMA have different capacitors.. no more C704

Also, some cards seems to work better after some months of mining Smiley like my MSI 960s
