How anonymous/decentralized is the marketplace going to be?
With being closed source at launch..  I'm guessing nsa nodes/backdoors all over the place  Sad

Thanks for the humor Rocoro : -)

As you guys all know, we are serious about changing the landscape of how people interact on the internet. BitBay is about giving people the freedom to buy and sell regardless of what country they live in. When we say join the revolution, we mean it.

If government agencies want to get involved, they will have to buy BitBay first. : -)  And by all accounts, David is going to make it expensive for them to do so : -)

So it's not going to be open source then?

It is, its only obfuscated python to prevent easy deciphering of logic. It is done this way for audits and protection from lazy cloners. An advanced coder should be able to understand it. One day I will remove the obfuscation too and put it on github. But at least you can check for back doors.

What part of it is python? I thought altcoins were usually C++. That's interesting that you're obfuscating it, in the scripting world that is basically not open source. Cloners will clone anyway, but you're right that it wouldn't be a lazy effort to clone with obfuscated code. Cool project! I will sell my stash and buy in again when you open source it. Thanks for replying!

Is the source available for this?

Markets are fully hard coded into the client. We believe that the community makes the coin, therefore we list this coins initial features as follows:

*No volatility with hedging
*Unbreakable Smart Contracts
*Advanced contracts with Time locks
*Decentralized Markets
*Anon Stealth
*Hardware Smart contracts
*Mesh-Network

*Community driven
...

But later in the ANN it says these features won't be available right away?

Seems my question was overlooked/not answered. Bitbay team?

I think you may have misinterpreted that statement (either that or I did). Smiley

I understood that to mean "we're working on these aspects initially but we're also working on more things in the future".  I don't think it would be possible to deliver everything upon release unless there was literally no reason for funding at all.  They've stated that among other reasons, the need for seed capital (hence the ICO) was for funding development teams for implementing the remainder of the technologies.  The only commitment at release was to have a wallet available and a block explorer, etc.  Then smart contracts integrated soon after, and finally to have the markets implemented at least in beta sometime in early 2015.

EDIT: I would add that the first sentence kind of indicates intent - basically: "This is what we are planning and really want to do, but it's a community-driven coin - so if everyone jumps up and down demanding a feature that's not listed here... we'll definitely consider heading in a different direction (or more accurately, re-ordering our priorities)."

Ah ok. Re-reading it now, that interpretation makes sense. I suggest re-wording that to make it a little more clear, esp. for those whose first language is not english. Might cut down on the fud a bit Wink

Also, I read that the source is available?

I agree with you that it could have been worded better (or at least been more specific and clear).  Largely I was able to interpret better due to reading the entire thread - which is definitely something that a new investor is unlikely to do - especially once the thread get's past 100 pages.

Not sure about that (source) since there's no link yet under 'linux' for the wallet I'm guessing either it hasn't been posted yet, or they've not had a chance to update the links quite yet.  I'm pretty sure I remember them saying they would git the source after finishing touches to the UI were finished for the contracts, but I may have gotten that confused with a different post (I've read so many this week).

Anyone have any feedback on the staking specifics - like the user's weight vs. the network weight, etc?

I don't feel that fat; do I look fat? ~  Embarrassed  Tongue

recently someone has mentioned about building a BitBay forum like BitShares has, that would be great to have a such forum coz this community will expand and would be easier for newbies to get help with any problem they encounter.
good luck my fellow BitBay holders.
