Well, now that Avalon apparently shipped, would you like to give an estimate on when we start hashing and how many TH/s are we looking at?

I don't see the correlation between a competitors shipment and the availability of that information.

If I have 3 apples, how many oranges do you have?

There is NO correlation, but nonetheless would still be nice to know.... And presumably not too difficult to answer....

I'm getting 2 oranges tomorrow, since we are comparing fruit delivery timetables. I'm glad you already have your apples, enjoy them.

Same thing with ASIC, the question could be stated as "Since your competitor has just achieved a milestone, we would like and update with regards to the next milestone we can expect from this project."

This is an EXTREMELY common question in the IT business, I doubt it is that unusual in most cases where you have innovators competing to ship a new innovation.

Framing is important, so let me ask it like this:
Freidcat, would you please post an brief note on what the current status of the project is and when the next milestone worth announcing will happen? Thanks!

I got 69 shares, I would like to sell them if anyone wants to buy it. I was thinking maybe .5 or .4BTC per share.

PM me if you want to negotiate a price : >

friedcat won't recognize the sale anyhow. Just wait until the exchange is up and running.

Update

What happened last week:

1. Workshop with sufficient power supply and cables for mining farm settled.
2. Solution of mechanical parts such as heatsinks done and products bulk-ordered.
3. The mass production (second batch) of the chips starts in the fab.
4. The rest 6 wafers finished and in the QC stage.
5. Waiting for all the main boards assembled with chips and components done.

We would like to say that the shareholders of ASICMINER are always in a better place now, than device users. because while  the everlasting free upgrade from providers for users is not possible, all our future products will benefit our shareholders. Thanks to all shareholders for taking the risks with/for us as investors in the beginning of our project. Higher risks are almost always rewarded with higher returns when the risks are eliminated. Now the biggest risks have gone so please expect the enjoying of both short-term and long-term profits of us in the next years. And also thanks for your patience.

The deploying with the whole 12 wafers may take more than two weeks. But everything is progressing well and no exceptions happened. We will make more frequent updates when any new milestones are hit.

The excitement is killing me! Can we have our update a little bit early this week?

[And please let the message be: "ASICMiner has already started hashing..."!]

It was a perfect moment to start, but it seems there are no mining rigs ready yet.... Guess we have to wait till Friedcats update in a couple of hours to hear where they stand at the moment.....

Well he hasn't sent me the dev board yet Cheesy
Though I've also no idea of any details either.
e.g. USB chip or MCU protocol
Of course there are lots of other interesting things to know, but those two will be what I'll need to know when the board arrives.
(but knowing in advance of course would mean I might be able to pre-emptively do some coding)

I'm beginning to be really curious as to what the hold up is. Proper way to do this is to plan ahead, and plan for errors also.

Has something come up?
Why was hardware ordered after chips and boards arrived?
Haven't any mechanical CAD or thermal analysis been done?

Hope your update is open and detailed. There's no need to keep any secrets at this point.

The hold up, right now, is the Chinese New Year, and possibly, your inability to read.

friedcat has already said in this thread:
1) The first batch was split in half just in case there were errors in the chip design, and the first half of the first batch has been completed, the rest of the first batch has only been manufactured half way and...
2) friedcat has given his go ahead to the chip fab to complete them
3) friedcat has tested a sample of the chips, and they passed testing with flying colors, and may even be able to be clocked much higher than originally engineered for, due to how well they came out
4) the half of the first batch has been sent to the board assembler to be surface mounted with the rest of the components
5) the Chinese New Year means nothing gets done
6) he has already chosen and mostly prepared the location the mining rigs will be setup
7) the first boards should be completed and sent to friedcat and begin mining in the first or second week of February

Do you realise that Chinese New Year isn't until February 10th which is two and a half weeks away from now ?

Yes.

Stuff starts shutting down and priority jobs are completed before the beginning of the Chinese New Year, and once the Chinese New Year starts, everything is completely shut down and everyone goes home. Hopefully, the finished boards are already in friedcat's hands BEFORE the 10th, otherwise we might be in for a longer wait.

1. According to friedcat the 2nd half was finished and in QC over a week ago
2. The go ahead was given and additional wafers were ordered, not the first 12
3.
4.
5. Nowhere has friedcat said that Chinese New Year would in any way influence ASICMINER. He said and I quote: It might take more than 2 weeks to get all 12 wafers up and hashing
6.
7. See 5. I read his update that all chips from the 12 wafers would be up and running in appr 2 weeks since the last update, so 1 week from now.

The only thing of concern and possibly related to CNY is the act that they ordered Heatsinks in bulk 2 weeks ago.... That might cause a delay if they dont arrive before CNY

1/2) I must have missed the update where he said the second half was already finished and hes already ordered the second batch
5) He hasn't said it, but its still an issue if things take too long or something goes wrong.
7) One week from now is February. Now, yes, I hope they start mining this week, but I think it'll end up being the first week of Feb.
