The ASICMINER winter has been a long one... really looking forward to spring...
March 20 2014 is the official start of spring hopefully we do wake up from the long winter

So we have another date here. March 20th. May I ask from where you got this date? Thanks

I was referring to the Spring Equinox in the Northern Hemisphere
http://www.cute-calendar.com/event/first-day-of-spring/6383-northern-hemisphere.html

No special meaning behind the date other than I am also looking forward to the spring and the end of the ASICMINER winter and symbolically hope that the hash will arrive with the change of season

Ah I see ... nope. Chips samples will be available in the mid April ... maybe, we "hope and believe™". Self-mining with them? Unknown.

On AM value assuming $0.8 per ghs profit; at 200 PH production = 0.6 Btc per share. Anything more, we will be in Btc heaven.

If we're extrapolating: 1600 PH/s production at a profit of $0.80 per GH/s gives approximately XBT 4.8 per share. Not bad, huh?

If we're really looking at $0.8 profit per GH/s, we have to consider that this is only the price for the first month(s). The price for following batches will be lower, since mining will become less profitable. So only the first, say, 50 PH/s will make $0.8 per GH/s, afterwards we have to settle for less. That being said, it's not completely unreasonable to expect another 0.6 BTC per share coming from gen 3. Which would (still) be perfectly fine in my books...

This is a good write-up.  FC said that price would drop after the 1st order.

I've started a list with the world's largest mining clusters, AM is on it 3 times so far, and KNC kicking our ass with their 10MW in Sweden.

If anyone knows the total MW capacity of the original China facility, the second one (the first data center), or any satellite clusters that are publicly know, please PM or update the thread (do not reply here):

Wow, great pick. Fucking scamland isn't it? Roll Eyes but on the other hand, we don't know what is happening inside China's mining scene past year ... so no much better here Roll Eyes non-transparent behavior, we were waiting months for gen2, then nothing, maintaining 10% promise? dick in hand ... now we're waiting for gen3 with "hope and believe™". Friedcat has last chance to safe honor of btc mining scene and securities.

avalon is launching their gen 3 chip in about 1.5 days.

40nm, 7GH/s per chip, 5Watts, 0.775Watts per Gh/s
http://avalon-asics.com/

Friedcat, any updates? I'm most interested in whether AM chips are hitting estimated target specs.

http://avalon-asics.com/

How can we compare these? How to compare J/Gh with W/Gh, anyone? thanks

ASICminer : 40nm,   12.8GH/s per chip,   0.72V,   0.35J/GHash

AVALON :    40nm,   7GH/s per chip,        5Watts,  0.775Watts per Gh/s

from google >
Joules to watts calculation formula
The power P in watts (W) is equal to the energy E in joules (J), divided by the time period t in seconds (s):
P(W) = E(J) / t(s) >>> watt = joule / second

DC volts to watts calculation formula
The power P in watts (W) is equal to the voltage V in volts (V), times the current I in amps (A):
P(W) = V(V) × I(A)

EDIT : ning, thank you ! so ASICminer *theoretical* specs are at least 2x better than AVALON offering. Lets see if Friedcat is able to deliver.

They are not the same (1J = 1W*s), but here they mean the same thing.

Loosely (not in the context of physics exams), J/GHash and W/GHash can be used interchangeably as energy consumption measurements.

In fact it is also valid in the context of physics exams: since 1J=1Ws, W/GH/s is equivalent to J/GH

There is a very detailed post from DaT on the forums going into details (can't find it just now), but yes: AM's rev3 is at least twice as energy efficient as Avalon's rev3 (if expected values can be reached).

The confusion arises from people using the wrong units - "Gh" instead of "Gh/s"

Bitmine.ch also announced 0.3J/GH, but failed to deliver. I don't want to start any speculation, but it seems very very low and i don't think it's achievable right now. Time will tell.

Because AM does not have final specs yet. That's why I asked the question. There have been a lot of theoretical performance numbers spouted by chip makers, but what counts is what the real world numbers are. Also, chips that are available sooner are "better" than undelivered chips...again that's the reason for the question.

Do we actually know the (probable) foundry AM is using for gen 3 or has been using for gen 1?
